Red regularly talks about humans and their dual nature -- the flesh vs. the divine nature. It may be the flesh (or old man) that keeps coming back from the grave. "Death of Me" and "Fight Inside" have similar themes as do many other songs of theirs.

Red is an amazing band and to me their lyrics are very personal and they write about struggles we have as Christians and how it is to be the light in a dark world, a lot of it is about spiritual warfare, a few songs that I would consider worship songs, they have it all and their faith is strong

Amazing song. Great band. I took it to mean when you’re saved by grace and all your past is wiped away that even when your past comes back to you from the accuser, satan, Christ reminds that he’s paid that for you. Let him cauterize the wounds and heal them and move on.

Red has some of my favorite music ever. Cauterize is one of them. I always see it is sin creeping back in and sometimes the drastic measures you take to cauterize it. Over the last couple years, listening to them more, Red has become one of my favorite rock bands, probably top 10. Their music is nothing special. There are a hundred other bands and probably more that sound just like them, but Mike Barnes’s voice stands apart. I can’t say he’s the *only* singer that sounds like he does, but he’s the only one that I’m familiar with. His tonal quality is unique and rare. And I do also enjoy their music, even if it’s not necessarily that unique in style.

I've been listening to Red for several years and have had some concern that they were shying away from their faith in an effort to be more mainstream, especially with their last album, Gone. They've never been overtly spiritual in their music, although I see a lot of good symbolism in their earlier projects, but I felt they've been even less straightforward with their most recent music. I'm somewhat encouraged by this song, though. I took the words "meet the flame" to be a reference to the Holy Spirit, who is often associated with fire, and that His cauterizing of old sin wounds protects from reinfection. I'm cautiously optimistic to hear more of Declaration. I just realized, Declaration: maybe it's about taking a more solid stance on their faith. I guess we'll see (or hear, as the case may be).

@@ericianshippers2676 Thanks for the reply. I'm glad to hear they are still faithful; I guess I'm at a point in my life, or in my faith, maybe, where I'm looking for "blatant" Christianity, if that makes sense. I understand that not everyone is bold about their faith -- honestly, I'm not a lot of times due to fear of rejection -- but I suppose it would be accurate to say that I hold public figures to a higher standard. I imagine that's somewhat unrealistic. I find it very encouraging, though, when someone who can literally speak into the lives of millions is willing to take a stand for Christ, whether it's actors refusing to do certain things for parts, or musicians echoing the Word of God in their lyrics.
@1MusicsMyLife14 жыл бұрын
They didn't say this directly, but I believe this is one of the complications they had with their label and one of the reasons why they left them. Declaration is a great step in showing how they've grown not only as a band but as Christians.
@morgmatar21174 жыл бұрын
I also thought that about the line “meet the flame.” There also seemed to be a lot of back and forth between Jesus and the protagonist, especially with references to “my sacrifice” and “hide in the wound.” Much of the song also called to mind the “testing by fire” from 1st Peter 1:6-9.

I wasn't expecting that either. I was surprised. Quite good. Hope you are all doing well. And, you know, this is probably the first time I've heard a pastor not preach the "forgive AND forget" idea to the letter. It's so refreshing to hear a man of Christ say that it's OK to keep past transgressions in mind, rather than attempting to purge it from your memory. It's like you're taking the stuff I've heard for years and translating in a way that doesn't disgust me. Seems like, unlike who I heard it from, you're not simply regurgitating what your predecessors told you: prejudice, discrimination, stereotyping, racism, classism, and similarly hateful concepts are what I've experienced from some claiming to be men or women of Christ. And, you're actually TRYING to connect with real people. Thanks for what you do! In addition, it looks like your www.fallenbynature.com web domain isn't working as intended. You ought to have whoever deals with that (yourself or otherwise) look at it.

Rob, I love your stank face. Red has always, lyrically, been vague with their message, but I think the amazing thing with them is you can feel what their message is about. Music, like any kind of art, doesn't have to be explicit in its lyrics, you have to be able to feel it. That way, the audience is able to put themselves into what the song is describing and thus be affected in some way by it. That's just how art is. Keep up the goodwork! Also, if you can, please react to As Cities Burn- The Widow (live at Cornerstone 2007). Look into the story behind it before watching it though. There's some misinformation about it unfortunately, which makes it worse because its a very deeply personal song for the lead vocalist.

Ok....I did love your post.... But I must argue with you.....Red is only vague to you... If the Holy Spirit, has not yet given you proper discernment.......I am big on meaning and music....I look up o lot of research on what artists are thinking at the time, writing their music......I have never once looked up a Red meaning....I think they are the most perfectly clear, Christian metal band that there is...... Y'all prolly talk to Jesus..... Start speak to Holy Spirit..... Ask him for discernment in Jesus name..... Just remember when speaking with Holly Spirit ..... You do not know the definition of humility..... Holy Spirit IS .... The definition of humility.... Never praise Him... Thank Him ... Fine, lovely.... But He.... Where glory is concerned... Only is with us, to edify That precious Jesus.... That everyone should know

The one song I'm actually familiar with of theirs is their Duran Duran cover, "Ordinary World. " You should check that one out too. This reaction video was really good. It was a very good analysis of this song. You really should also do a review of Paradise Lost's "Fear of Impending Hell." They're not particularly a Christian band, but that song actually speaks of some very profound truths of unsaved people's fear of impending Hell at death.
