Favorite remake of all time was Cronenberg's The Fly. It departed completely from the 1950's original and was superbly gruesome. After that, John Carpenter's remake of The Thing which lots of folks don't know was also originally made in the 1950s. Also, A Fistful of Dollars was a good remake of Yojimbo from 1961. Last Man Standing wasn't bad either, another remake of Yojimbo.

I kinda agree with this, I felt that if it had a bit more build to the Korean invasion (seriously, ten minutes in?) would have done a good thing for the movie. And a little more time to really let the characters breath and establish themselves more effectively would have gone a long way. I personally didn't mind the plot that much, but it ain't perfect. So in my opinion this coulda been a really good movie; but it wasn't quite there.

SPOILER ALERT! My honest review: I loved this movie, not as much as the original, of course, but it was good. The characters: Matty (Josh Peck) Jed (Chris Hemsworth) Robert (Josh Hutcherson) Pete (Steve Lenz) Greg (Julian Alcaraz) Danny (Edwin Hodge) Setting: West Coast of America Plot: North Korea, with the help of Russia, take over the west coastal plain of America. A group of teenagers, with the help of a Marine, try to take on North Korea after watching their dad get killed. They soon go into war and it goes as planned, but there has to be a few sacrifices along the way. Review: I think the movie was good because I liked the characters, I felt emotional with them, probably I know the roles of them well. They do have to kill off a few characters, such as Chris Hemsworth, to make it more emotional, which it did. When the two brothers start getting along and talking to each other, Chris Hemsworth gets shot in the head. The plot kind of left us hanging, like why did Korea invade so many countries? How did it turn out at the end when it cut off the big battle? Not my favorite thing, but still a good plot! My overall review: 8.2/10

I personally really enjoyed this movie. I saw Chris Hensworth's skill over the rest of the group and how he had to train/teach the rest of them what to do made him the leader, and that the issues with his brother helps show his brother's growth in becoming a leader himself. The pockets of resistance were also said to be inspired by the Wolverines so they did make some difference. I know the movie isn't perfect or anything but I still really like it.

I have a brother in law 2 cousins, and an uncle who were all in the marines. They don't care being called Soldiers. They hate being referred to as "The Army," I never said they are "Just some soldiers" jackass. They are one of the top branches in the military obviously, but they are Soldiers. Solider is someone who fights for a nation. Last time I checked, Marines fight for our nation. They are all different in their ways, but all can be classified as a Marine Soldier, Army Soldier, etc.

I enjoyed it as well, but one thing about the movie annoyed me. I'm gonna try not to spoil anything, but I can't really explain it without spoiling something, so yeah, spoilers. I don't like how Josh's characters risked one of the operations just to save his girlfriend, getting one of their guys killed in the process, then made it seem as if his actions were justified because he managed to save her. Then (even though I knew this was coming) his brother dies and he lives. It just annoyed me.

I think the remake of Night Of The Living Dead was an okay remake, but remakes rarely are better. The Thing (the FIRST remake) is good. When they do a "reimagining" that tends to be a better "remake." You've convinced me to wait for this film at the rental place... thanks!

They changed those images because it is much more palatable in this political environment to imagine the U.S. fighting North Koreans than the Chinese. As I stated prior the screenplay writer, John Milus, was involved in all three projects and that is why there are similarities. I enjoyed the original Red Dawn for what it was, but none of them can really rip each other off seeing as John Milus is the screeplay writer for all three.

I agree with your review! I wasn't interested in seeing the film in the first place, however, when Skyfall sold out, we chose this as the third best thing (since Lincoln was also sold out). I regretted it since the beginning. The movie felt clumsy, really long, and I felt like this was some Lifetime, made for TV film that they decided to put on the big screen. the best part was the citizen rebellion. Other wise, unnecessary expenditure of money.

It's really sad because Red Dawn really could've been one of those rare remakes that outshined the original like The Dark Knight, True Grit, The Departed, Scarface, The Fugitive, etc. It really could've been so great and so big that people would've almost forgot about the original and maybe could've been a potential contender for the Oscars for not only technical achievements but for some performances as well and maybe even for Best Picture and Best Director too!

I don't think it was trying to be realistic. The original Red Dawn was unrealistic too. This was by no means a great movie, but if you put your realistic expectations aside, it'sa pretty entertaining movie. And the U.S military was busy counter-attacking. According to Morgan's character, the wolverines were only about 60 miles from the military.

They don't make it clear but in the very beginning when it is setting the stage, it mentions of the "Pacific Rim Alliance" or something in all the news broadcasts and how Korea is joining it with Russia and other powers who are notable contenders against the US. That and when they meet the retired Marines in the woods, he says that the entire eastern seaboard is controlled by the Russians, meaning that the west/northwest was Korea's sector, and the US was split up by multiple invaders.

Call me crazy, but I kinda liked this movie. My only real complaint being its length, it only clocks in at 90 minutes or so, and all the issues stem from this length. Character relationships were sort of vague and sometimes things seemed very rushed. If the film had been 20 minutes or so longer, I feel they could've made it all gel better and given more time for people to care about the characters.
@R_A12011 жыл бұрын
I didn't mind the film, apart from two things. 1. The camera work during actions scenes. What on earth were they thinking, its called a tripod, don't shake the damn camera while key action scenes are happening, are you high?! 2. The characters, or lack there of, I don't get why so many film just don't care enough to make you like the people you're meant to be sad to see get killed off. Like Jeremy said I couldn't name half of these characters.

I love the original, I was a bit excited for the remake because I think it would be a good one if it was handled right like you said. Robert was my favorite character (C.Thomas Howell) because he just did a 180 and got all badass, he even *spoiler?* shot the Mayor's kid when he betrayed them. No remorse. In this... he was played by Josh Hutcherson.... which could have been really good. He could play a part like that. Did they let him? Nope. Bad move. Also, the way one of them dies at the end *spoiler?* was ridiculous. In the original, he and his brother at least had a moment that was awesome and all of that... but this? Pfft. Shameful.

Pretty much all of your complaints are mostly the same as mine with both. The first one needed to be remade given how sloppy it was. The remake makes every mistake the original made, with maybe the exception of the soundtrack in the new one which despite being clichéd is still better than the original's score. Favourite remake?
