I've played a couple hours now on Switch (portable) and I'm really impressed. Looks like a full 720p at all times with some good Anti Aliasing. And I've barely noticed any drops to frames, just a couple hitches when the horse does something crazy. Very impressive port, who'd have thought 10 years ago we'd have massive console games on our lil Nintendo handhelds.

Hopefully everything will be on the physical cartridge. If I can beat the game without an update then physical is a no brainer. Having this on a small cartridge would be an awesome novelty to have!

A physical is releasing but there can be a catch that is game is of 11GB I just hope Rockstar isn't as cheapskate as Capcom or Ubisoft and put the game on a 16GB card instead of 8gb one and then you have download the rest

I Highly recommend to anyone who hasn't played Red Dead Redemption, It's a must play especially if you've played RDR2. It's a game that's aged amazingly.

I’m pleased to here that it runs and looks as best it can on Switch. Sure the price and lack of online are frustrating but to have one of the best single player open worlds on a portable console is pretty impressive. I’ll definitely pick up the physical release on this, doubt you’ll get it much cheaper if you hold out.

Amazing review as always, SwitchUp I've heard of a physical coming some time late September early October so be on the look out for that. With Fall around the corner, my backlog is going to be ridiculous with Switch far exceeding my expectations this year I honestly am worried what might come next. As far as the multiplier being absent I'm fine with that. Most of my time playing this was single player and by the time I looked into multi it was pretty much dead. I'd say a small price to pay given No Man's Sky success. Multi being phased out in favor of improved visuals and FPS is a huge benefit especially for a game like this.

One of my all time favorites. I look forward to playing this on switch…as soon as it goes on sale. I think $40 US would have been a fair starting price, but of course they have to squeeze us and take advantage of our nostalgia and love for the game. In the end it’s fine though, I’ll be playing BG3 for the next few months anyway! (My Switch is feeling very neglected the past couple weeks). Have a great day Mark!

Amazing game! £40 for the full game plus Undead Nightmare is worth every penny! For those people (like me) where Switch is their only console, this is a welcome addition to their library! And as for multiplayer, people would play it for about a week, then drop off - not worth the extra development time! Great video as always! 👍🏻

Seems like a decent port. My wife rarely plays console games but I remember her being addicted to RDD when it launched. She actually completed about 90% of it and even gave me some tips.😆 I'm glad this port turned out okay but it's the price I can't fully justify. I'll wait for a price drop before I pick it up and play one of the best games ever again. Thanks for the review

The Multiplayer will be missed, but looks like they’ve done a really good job of porting it. Let’s be honest, this is the release price, the console is in it’s golden years, this game’s going to be on sale before Christmas, and then likely fairly often from then onwards. For me this is a must as a physical, and I’ll likely pick it up in the near future. Nice review, Mark 👍🏻

I bought it on the eshop even though I bought a XBox Series S last year just to play the enhanced edition. I also have it on PS3 but it looks horrible at 640p. It's blurry, sometimes really dark and at other times looks completely washed out. It looks nice on the Switch OLED and it's one of my all time favourite games so it's worth it to me.

Honestly picking this up on the switch is a no brainer. RDR is an amazing game and still looks great. Perfect introduction to the series for Nintendo fans. If you have never played it do not hesitate to play it you’ll have tons of fun.

This is a phenomenal port. So glad it didn't get a lousy "Remaster" Treatment, A great port is all we needed. Looks and runs Amazing on the OLED Nintendo Switch in Handheld. Nice job getting a video out so quick, now back to the West!

It's a 13 year old game. Games on the Switch are expensive as it is anyway so I guess no difference to Switch owners. Personally there's no way I'm paying that much for a port NOT a remaster. The Xbox version is a lot cheaper and runs better. I'm playing it on the PC anyway, with emulation. (The good thing about the Switch port is that it will probably be the most stable version to emulate on the Steam Deck.)

$50 is way too high for such a bare bones low effort port. You shouldn’t buy it because that will incentivize rockstar to continue making low effort ports

​@@mister-pinkmanthe port itself is good quality. The only negative thing about the port is it doesn't come with the online part of the game. By all accounts it looks and runs good on the switch. People are just mad they are wanting 50 bucks for a port and not a remaster or remake. BTW if it was remade it would most likely not be on the switch in the first place.

@@johnnyjets2343 People are mad because leaks suggested an actual remaster, and fans have been asking for a pc port for years now, but instead we got a bare bones port with zero actual improvements, less content, and an unjustifiable price - especially when you can get a 360 copy of the game (with the multiplayer) and play it on the series x at native 4k for $30 instead of $50. A couple years ago, Rockstar CEO said they “don’t just do simple ports” and this is proof that that was a corporate lie. But they still have shills like you that are willing to pay them anyway, so it doesn’t matter in the end. Out of context, the port is totally fine, and if it was $30 or less and included multiplayer then people wouldn’t be as mad. But that’s not the case.

I was and wasn’t worried about how it would perform on switch reason I say that with the game being as old as it is and I’ve seen switch run some current games for it’s platform I’m definitely glad to hear and see that it runs smoothly I’ll definitely be picking up thank you guys for the detailed help as always!🎉

Howdy! Did you change the brightness/contrast/saturation settings for handheld mode? I find kicking brightness up 2 notches and contrast up 3 gives me more of the Xbox lighting, but was curious what you found? Base settings seem to make the image a little flat and jaggies more noticeable.

What are the controllers/joycons attached to your switch? I have been using the hori split pad pro. I like the increased length of the analog sticks for more precision, but the triggers are kind of cheap and wear out easily for a $50 attachment, and it's also still designed in a way where it eventually puts your hand to sleep lol Those look cool though

I'm waiting for either the physical cart or a really good sale price. I already have RDR + UDN on 360 from back in the day, but a portable copy would be amazing. The reason for the cart is so I can lend it to family to get them into this as well!

Great tech/performance review, Mark! Makes me wonder now if GTA IV & maybe even V might eventually come to Switch. As for me purchasing the game, I'm on the fence. The Game Collection have the physical on preorder for £33.95 which is more palatable than the digital £40 (granted we still don't know how much of the game will be on the cartridge) I have £15 worth of points with Game Collection too, so could get it for £19. But questioning whether to use those points for a decade old game, that I still have on PS3 (albeit dusty 😅)... or use those points for something like the Super Mario RPG remake or Persona 5 Tactica. Toughy!
