It was originally planned, because a zombified version of Arthur was found in the game files. I assume they scrapped it to put in into RDO, but since RDO wasn’t the succes they hoped for, they never finished Undead Nightmare II.

Red dead 1 was just perfect, the feature where you can cheat in poker if you have the elegant suit on is probly one of the coolest features I’ve ever seen in any game ever, and if you get caught cheating it ends in a quick draw dead eye duel outside, so badass

The only difference would be shorter loading times. Thats sad, 2 console generations later. They have rhe RDR2/RDO world, environmental assets, charachter models, NPC scripting, etc. It would be like using the same set and actors to do a different play. Almost nothing new to have to create. Quite a shame that they didn't give it a little bit of a modern day shine. (HD textures, 60fps etc.) But this game is an absolute classic if you haven't played it. The $50 is quite steep, but I'd be a different person if I never got to play this game. Dramatic I know but back in 2010 it was an amazing game.

it's a shame they didn't do a full remaster on rdr2 engine. They already had the map for it - just some minor adjustments, the models etc, even the audio was already recorded. They could rerecord some more dialogue, maybe add a little bit more content and would make a great remake. But they managed somehow with these good pointers to still make a crap decision.

The ending to RDR is the first video game ending where my jaw dropped because I didn't expect it. I'd love to play through it again on switch, as it's been 12 years since I played it, but $50 is a no go for me. It's inspired me to play 2 again though. Here's hoping there is a price drop around the holidays. At least then 2's story/world building will make 1's playthrough mean so much more.

Its an amazing game. I played RDR2 first and spent hrs on it. Now with its release on switch, I got one of my favorite games wherever I go.The only issue I can think of are the shrunken rabbits and hardly visible items on the ground while playing handheld, but playing docked makes up for it.

I bought it on PS3 back in the day (the complete edition with the zombies), for 20€. So the price is a bit baffling, especially since they didn't update it. I would've wanted them implementing a VR mode, because the atmosphere in itself was already so great, I really want to experience 'in there'. I still remember how it felt setting your first steps outside the first house and riding into the prairie. That 'void' felt so special, with how our society is so crowded nowadays. Red Dead Redemption was one of those games I couldn't put down without finishing it. Completely. Got all the herbs, animal hunting and such. Even liked playing the multiplayer, which I generally don't like. Great game, but not at the price they're asking. Rockstar is losing it with their prices.

So they learned nothing from the GTA definitive trilogy where everyone said they were cash grabbing and not giving out quality. Now they're not even trying to remaster and still charging the same as brand new games in 2023. Barely any effort and asking for as much money as possible. They need to have other teams working on smaller games like they used to instead of having nothing but terrible remasters and ports in between rdr2 and GTA 6. It's like they don't know what to do because they're not releasing anything and need a bigger income since no one's buying GTA5 or rdr2 anymore and the playerbases are thinning so they just think what can we charge full price for with the least production effort possible.

Even without updates RDR holds up like a champ in graphics and gameplay. I received RDR (switch) as a present and it’s a solid port which if you know the game’s sordid development makes it pretty impressive. It’s almost impossible to do a true remaster and difficult to port because the original games code was held together with duck tape and bubblegum so it’s impressive this is as solid as it is on the switch. My only gripe is the controls feel more sluggish than I remember especially when it comes to shooting.

Remember, Rdr2 has a limited number of bounties you can do in the story mode. Rdr1 has an infinite number of bounties. Definitely fun to do after you're all done with both games.

For anyone who was disappointed by this release for not adding support to pc, there is an option of emulating RDR with even better FPS and sharper resolution through the Xenia emulator. So far I’ve been having a better experience compared to when I was playing it on ps3.

It’s very sad that the multiplayer for the game has been completely stripped out, and they’re still asking $50. As a Series X owner who still has the 360 disc I’m perfectly content with playing on Xbox. Not sure if they shut down the multiplayer on the 360 version but if it’s still up & running no doubt that’s still the definitive version to play imo.

I rented this game at initial launch. I recall absolutely killing a mission and as I was running off, a mountain lion attacked my horse out of NOWHERE and killed it and I failed the mission. I was baffled. I could not replicate it but I hadn't had anything like that happen since Sims 3 when I made a type A wife and slacker husband and after a short while he got hit by an airplane engine FROM THE SKY and planted him permanently dead in the front yard after he went to get the mail. Too crazy!

You will enjoy it. It has many little dark stories within the world if you step outside of the main storyline for a bit. It is darker, more grittier world than in RDR2. 🤔 Think of it like the a 70s -80s Spaghetti Western vs today's Epic Westerns. ❤ At least in my humble opinion. Price is not reasonable at all, but I was super excited when they announced RDR port, and had a few bucks saved up with some Nintendo gold points to reduce the cost a bit, so I just got it.

If you have never played the game, not even once, then I think you'll get $50 worth of gameplay. Story takes about 20 hours plus another 10 hours for Undead Nightmare, which is also an incredible game on its own. I'm not defending the price by any means but if you're itching for a new Red Dead experience, I'd go for it.

BUT - unless you are desperate to play it now I would plead with you to wait for a sale and not reward this behaviour from them. They removed this game from the free catalogue of games on Plus Premium to sell it back to us for €50. It's a very shitty business practice for what is a port with nothing but languages added

People have begged R* for a Remake for years since RDR2 was released. The modding community has actually remade parts of RDR1, including some cut scenes with the audio ported over using assets from RDR2. They look amazing! If modders can do this, R* has no excuse. The game is an amazing experience and R* just sat back and demanded money for as little effort as possible.

I’m a Nintendo gamer who bought RDR on sale and just finished playing it for the first time. I really loved the story/themes and the characters, and enjoyed the side quests, shootouts, open world and music/atmosphere. But I had a lot of annoyances with it too with the weird save structure, bugs, UI choices and encounters with bandits and animals. If you like a story driven single player exp and haven’t played it before and get it on sale, I’d say it’s worth it.

I think red dead coming to the switch is awesome. Rdr is one of the all time greats and having it on the go along with undead nightmare is something I’m looking forward to. The game released at $60 without and additional content. Undead nightmare is a huge expansion. If the game was priced at $40 would the internet still be up in arms? Any lower than that is absurd to expect from a high profile release. I think 40 dollars would be a more consumer friendly price but I’m not going to lose my shit over an additional $10

If it had multiplayer like the old one I could justify it, because I would get to relive some of my greatest times with online gaming but with it being a standalone single player I can't do it. Price will drop. People have already waited 13 years, it isn’t unreasonable to wait a couple more weeks or months for a sale. Let the people who are willing to pay $50 pay $50 and soon as they stop buying it’ll drop in price. Keep in mind, this also lets Rockstar gauge the profitability of a Red Dead 3. They throw mountains of money into their projects whether they’re as small as a ping pong game or as big as a statewide crime spree mmo. Or a Western series spanning three generations of characters. I love RDR and will likely vote with my wallet for more of it. I bought every release of GTA V. Didn’t touch the MP micro transactions. I will buy the full game if it releases again. I want GTA VI, don’t care for shark cards. That’s my wallet. $50 for this game is incredibly reasonable given that Crime Boss: Rockay City is only $10 less. I don’t care which cane first, the experiences and impact are on two completely different levels. One is freaking Rockstar. The other is Wish.

Used my Nintendo Store credits and got the game at a reasonable price, $41. So far, I'm enjoying it on my Switch. I'm in my first play through and still very early in the game. I already noticed some graphical glitches. Standing on the horse, eyes popping out of the General Store merchant's head, and some weird artifacts. But nothing game-breaking yet. I'm just excited this came out because I didn't want to pull out my PS3 just to play it.

This video comes up at a great time. I'm a huge fan of Red Dead Redemption II, and have never played the first game. I'm a PC gamer and do not have a console lying around. Playing RDR legally, the only option would be to get a Nintendo Switch again (given I sold the one I had years ago because I didn't use it that much), and buying the game. It's a huge sum of money in order to play RDR (and of course other games on the Switch), but I'm really bothered by the question whether it is worth it.
