The ending to RDR is the first video game ending where my jaw dropped because I didn't expect it. I'd love to play through it again on switch, as it's been 12 years since I played it, but $50 is a no go for me. It's inspired me to play 2 again though. Here's hoping there is a price drop around the holidays. At least then 2's story/world building will make 1's playthrough mean so much more.

It was originally planned, because a zombified version of Arthur was found in the game files. I assume they scrapped it to put in into RDO, but since RDO wasn’t the succes they hoped for, they never finished Undead Nightmare II.

Red dead 1 was just perfect, the feature where you can cheat in poker if you have the elegant suit on is probly one of the coolest features I’ve ever seen in any game ever, and if you get caught cheating it ends in a quick draw dead eye duel outside, so badass

Its an amazing game. I played RDR2 first and spent hrs on it. Now with its release on switch, I got one of my favorite games wherever I go.The only issue I can think of are the shrunken rabbits and hardly visible items on the ground while playing handheld, but playing docked makes up for it.

Even without updates RDR holds up like a champ in graphics and gameplay. I received RDR (switch) as a present and it’s a solid port which if you know the game’s sordid development makes it pretty impressive. It’s almost impossible to do a true remaster and difficult to port because the original games code was held together with duck tape and bubblegum so it’s impressive this is as solid as it is on the switch. My only gripe is the controls feel more sluggish than I remember especially when it comes to shooting.

The only difference would be shorter loading times. Thats sad, 2 console generations later. They have rhe RDR2/RDO world, environmental assets, charachter models, NPC scripting, etc. It would be like using the same set and actors to do a different play. Almost nothing new to have to create. Could have used the same audio and nobody would care. Just lazy.

Quite a shame that they didn't give it a little bit of a modern day shine. (HD textures, 60fps etc.) But this game is an absolute classic if you haven't played it. The $50 is quite steep, but I'd be a different person if I never got to play this game. Dramatic I know but back in 2010 it was an amazing game.

it's a shame they didn't do a full remaster on rdr2 engine. They already had the map for it - just some minor adjustments, the models etc, even the audio was already recorded. They could rerecord some more dialogue, maybe add a little bit more content and would make a great remake. But they managed somehow with these good pointers to still make a crap decision.

I think red dead coming to the switch is awesome. Rdr is one of the all time greats and having it on the go along with undead nightmare is something I’m looking forward to. The game released at $60 without and additional content. Undead nightmare is a huge expansion. If the game was priced at $40 would the internet still be up in arms? Any lower than that is absurd to expect from a high profile release. I think 40 dollars would be a more consumer friendly price but I’m not going to lose my shit over an additional $10

After an amazing experience with RDR2 on PS4 a couple years ago, I made peace with the fact that couldn't continue the journey into RDR1 since I owned no other platform. So this is really good news even if it's just the OG game. Not paying that price though. I'm quite happy to wait it out and get on with other games.

I bought it on PS3 back in the day (the complete edition with the zombies), for 20€. So the price is a bit baffling, especially since they didn't update it. I would've wanted them implementing a VR mode, because the atmosphere in itself was already so great, I really want to experience 'in there'. I still remember how it felt setting your first steps outside the first house and riding into the prairie. That 'void' felt so special, with how our society is so crowded nowadays. Red Dead Redemption was one of those games I couldn't put down without finishing it. Completely. Got all the herbs, animal hunting and such. Even liked playing the multiplayer, which I generally don't like. Great game, but not at the price they're asking. Rockstar is losing it with their prices.

This video comes up at a great time. I'm a huge fan of Red Dead Redemption II, and have never played the first game. I'm a PC gamer and do not have a console lying around. Playing RDR legally, the only option would be to get a Nintendo Switch again (given I sold the one I had years ago because I didn't use it that much), and buying the game. It's a huge sum of money in order to play RDR (and of course other games on the Switch), but I'm really bothered by the question whether it is worth it.

Rdr was one of those iconic games back in the day i didnt get a chance to try. I was lucky enough to own rdr undead nightmare bc i found a standalone copy. Most recently i platinumed RDR2 and loved the story. But $50 for a port, for a game I could find the xbox 360 version of at my local gamestop for $20 at most, is predatory

PS4/Switch Red Dead Redemption 1 port doesn't have multiplayer. The Xbox version of Red Dead Redemption 1 is better because it's cheaper, 4K on Xbox Series X and Xbox One X, and multiplayer is still up.

I’m a Nintendo gamer who bought RDR on sale and just finished playing it for the first time. I really loved the story/themes and the characters, and enjoyed the side quests, shootouts, open world and music/atmosphere. But I had a lot of annoyances with it too with the weird save structure, bugs, UI choices and encounters with bandits and animals. If you like a story driven single player exp and haven’t played it before and get it on sale, I’d say it’s worth it.

MyPSN PlatinumChaser But yea since l already have it 100% Platinum, and they did a BASIC port with the EXACT same trophies minus the online trophies, I will wait for a sale. I WONT support Rock$tars cash grab of $70 here in Australia 🇦🇺 If they did a Remake l would of GLADLY given them the full retail price for it. But because Rock$tar only care about money and didn't want to do any real work or put anything into it and ask FULL price for a 13 year old PS3 game, I won't support that and l will wait until it's second hand for like $20

Got this at midnight launch back in the day and absolutely adored this, then adored UN & RDR2. The price pissed me off, really want it for the Switch but the price is putting me off. I’ll pick it up eventually but yeah R* never been the same now since Jim left. Shocking move from them imo. You should deffo playthrough Undead Nightmare, was solid.

Love the idea of more players having more opportunity to play a great game. I agree with the price criticism but im assuming most people buying this version will be buying it on sale in a few months. Just sucks they had to ruin the launch with that price. rockstar said it was the same price as the xbox version and I guess thats true at full price but I am almost never buying a backwards compatible game on xbox unless its part of a sale

I just got mines on sale. Boy I can’t wait till it’s done downloading. I’ve played both red dead 1 and 2 and the undead add on, but vaguely remember red dead 1 and the downloadable content. So this will be a good way for me to reacquaint myself with them both.

LOL someone would have actually had to do a miniscule amount of work to make a PC port that was decent. PC players aren't gonna put up with a framerate capped at 30 and 1080p.. but then if they put in the work to raise the resolution and unlock the frame rate the people would ask why they couldn't do the same for the PS4/5 version

I don't know if they fixed it but I encountered a pesky glitch on 360 with undead nightmare where after a couple hours in the game zombie heads would turn invisible. It's funny to see a bunch of zombies running round without visible heads but the novelty wore off quickly

You will enjoy it. It has many little dark stories within the world if you step outside of the main storyline for a bit. It is darker, more grittier world than in RDR2. 🤔 Think of it like the a 70s -80s Spaghetti Western vs today's Epic Westerns. ❤ At least in my humble opinion. But I would love to hear what you think after playing it - it's amazing how fresh eyes aren't influenced by nostalgia. 😅

I completely agree with him, they could've given it a bit of a modern look, but not too modern so it still has that feel of it being an old school type game. Maybe freshen up the graphics a bit so it doesn't look as boxy or pixilated as it looked back then. I remember when I first got it, just like GTA 5 on the 360, it looked so realistic and the best graphics I've seen but as years go by, it starts looking outdated, which isn't bad, some people love that style of gaming and all power to them.

I actually ran into a lot of random travel and quest glitches. But it may be things i do not remember happening. Traveling from the campfires does not work well for me and many quests will have to be started again completely because a character will be stuck. I only tried the switch version. I will try the ps5 version if it keeps happening

For anyone who was disappointed by this release for not adding support to pc, there is an option of emulating RDR with even better FPS and sharper resolution through the Xenia emulator. So far I’ve been having a better experience compared to when I was playing it on ps3.

I’ve been playing on pc using xenia at 4k 60fps, it took me about an hour to get running but it’s by far the best way to play the game if you have a decent pc.

I rented this game at initial launch. I recall absolutely killing a mission and as I was running off, a mountain lion attacked my horse out of NOWHERE and killed it and I failed the mission. I was baffled. I could not replicate it but I hadn't had anything like that happen since Sims 3 when I made a type A wife and slacker husband and after a short while he got hit by an airplane engine FROM THE SKY and planted him permanently dead in the front yard after he went to get the mail. Too crazy!

RDR1 was one of the best games I ever played and I always regretted not being able to replay it. I don't like that it is 50 dollars but I do accept that it might be an accurate representation of the kind of demand Rockstar see for this port. I believe people will pay it and I think I will too (eventually)

I never played the original RDR, but always wanted to - even more after playing RDR2. This will be a great opportunity for me, but I think I might just wait if there's gonna be a PC version of this or until I get a discount on it. In the end it is just as you said: it's just a port from a 10 year old game with a price tag of 50 bucks. Might be great for people like me who never played it before, but there's so much other stuff to play that I don't might waiting for a discount at all.

It'll probably go on sale at some point but just remember that your alternative is to spend even more money buying a different console to play the game and your cheapest option would be the Xbox 360 which will more than likely breakdown within a year of buying it The argument being made that the price point isn't fair is coming from the perspective of it being an old game it should be cheaper rather than taking into consideration the commercially available options for alternatives

I'm sure my previous youth(I'm in my 30's now) plays a big role in this, but I recall my roommate buying this game and just watching him ride around in the open desert expanse at 4 in the morning, slightly buzzed and slowly falling asleep. It was an incredible experience i played myself later... Even made a real life friend through the online mode. He lives in Florida now and me and the roomie bought him a ps4 when he couldn't afford him That said, no online and no enhanced features makes the 50$ price tag pretty ridiculous. People have begged R* for a Remake for years since RDR2 was released. The modding community has actually remade parts of RDR1, including some cut scenes with the audio ported over using assets from RDR2. They look amazing! If modders can do this, R* has no excuse. The game is an amazing experience and R* just sat back and demanded money for as little effort as possible.
