"It could have looked much better if there was a PC port... the lack of one is pretty odd." If I remember correctly from interviews with Rockstar at the time, it was said that the code base for the game was a total mess and they were lucky to get it running as well as it did at launch. I'm paraphrasing, but it's been said that the game is an inch away from crashing at any time I believe, not that you'd know it from the way it runs. This made them reticent to go back and touch it again for release on PC, or PS4/XB1 era consoles, or indeed in any form since 2010's initial release. To me this is a real shame and tells you all you need to know about post-GTA V R* - all they really care about is GTA Online. They could have done something clever like release a port of the original RDR on Switch at the same time as launching RDR2 on the PS4/XB1, or at the very least dropped an updated re-release onto them with better quality assets, higher rendering resolution (PS3 version renders at 640p and scales to 720p) and 1080p60/4K30 for the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, but no. All we've got to go on is basically thanks to Microsoft's excellent commitment to back compat which allows the original X360 version to be upscaled and run at a more solid frame rate. It's a terrible way to treat what I consider to be one of their best ever games, and in many ways I still prefer to RDR2. Really shameful.

That's what l have read as well. We probably won't ever get RDR on PC at this point, it's been 11 years and they probably wouldn't be able to sell at a decent price anyway so it's all forgotten. But it's still strange we didn't get it on PC when GTA 4, LA Noire and Max Payne 3 were all on PC, and used RAGE engine as well. Max Payne 3 was developed using RAGE with Euphoria combined and it still came to PC. Maybe they just couldn't bother porting it to PC and came up with a random excuse.

you can still play it on PC using xenia canary emulator. It's pretty much playable now. I have almost low end PC (by today's standards) with Ryzen 2600 and RX590, 16 gigs of RAM and the game runs at 60 fps with occasional drops to 30-40 in populated areas. So everyone can play it now

@@peek_exe from what I saw in the internet they used RAGE V2 on GTA4 and all episodes and RAGE V3 on max payne 3, GTA 5 and RDR2. Now if you are a keen observer you would notice that something is missing from this list. For those who didn’t, let me explain from the info I found in the interwebs. RDR1 was made using let’s say RAGE V2.5, or more accurately a subset of RAGE V2. There were a lot of changes that were undocumented and the target was X360 and basic compatibility for PS3 with not so much optimisation. The PC was unfortunately out of the question, especially given the infamous PC port of GTA 4.

@@CrissCHG In asking questions to the player. The game has subtle puzzles and ''shows'' the player where to go. You go to explore and because of curiousity. The game never holds your hand and says go there do this do that It gives you hints and lets you figure it out. For example camping and cooking. In Breath of the Wild if it rains you have to choose a nice spot for your fire. You have to find flint or have a Flame weapon maybe a fire arrow. In red dead its 1 button and you're cooking. Look I love red dead 2 alot and I play it daily, Zelda is more childish but both are great games which have great exploration and fun things to do.

To this date. I have yet to play any title that surpasses this in terms of sheer quality. The depth in the story, the awesome soundtrack and the unique gameplay mechanics, everything clicked right, for the first time in history for me. Hats off to Rockstar! I always remember the first time playing it. Once in a lifetime game.

I get what you're saying, but its not really. In game they can go from trot to gallop in 0.5 seconds without hurting themselves and go for days without eating or tending their shoes. This could put a horse down for good in real life from repetition or neglect. Your female horses never have a menstrual cycle and you never have to deal with your horse trying to mount another with you riding it. They look cool sure, but horses are animals and a true portrayal of horse care would be tedious and boring when your horse spooks and dies underneath your lap after you made that warning shot.

I think the slow pace at the beginning is also an hommage to the old Spaghetti Western, especially the Sergio Leone films. They start really slow, but once the action starts, it doesn't stop.

Well i don't know about Arthur, but it's stated that John is blind in his left eye, since sometimes when shooting birds out of the sky in the first game he will say "looks like i got my eye back" through those ambient dialogues. Although i guess is just speculation of the fans since it ain't canon.

I thought it was a fantastic duology. My younger brother bought me both games for Christmas 2019 and 2020 and I loved the scenery and story. Rockstar makes some beautiful games, and I loved the story, and character development and interactions. The gameplay was great, but typical Rockstar, and just a vehicle to facilitate the story progression. I really appreciated the "skip checkpoint" option so I could bypass hard parts.

It's interesting that I really enjoyed RDR's slow start, but hated the same thing in GTA4. Possibly having dipped a toe in more spectacle-heavy games like Uncharted and Assassin's Creed in the meantime colored my expectations, or maybe it's because that Roman guy is a total douchebag, and Niko comes across as too much of a cypher.

I basically played this game as a good guy: collecting bounties, hunting, and helping strangers. No rampages for me, it was out of my system after GTA III & Vice City. I did have a few bounties on John Marston, but real penny ante stuff.

I 100%'ed this game twice and put hundreds of hours into it atleast... didn't know the campsite had fast travel... probably wouldn't change the way I played ir even if I did tbh. I had fun just getting from A to halfway to B, geting distracted then completely forgetting that in was going to B and played poker instead... which was probably B in the first place.

I used to go to my local BLOCKBUSTER every week to rent a game during 2006-2011 & most games were mediocre & only a far few got my full attention I rented RDR a few weeks after it's initial release dokey for the R* logo on the bottom right of the box I expected to get bored of the game like the majority of the games i rented but from the 3-4 mission the game got my full on attention Beat the game 3x & it's UNDEAD NIGHTMARE expansion 2x
