Oh yeah! Elm through the box wedge is a nightmare! The pieces that came out look good!

I was thinking the same thing. Elm is just a tough split regardless. I was impressed with the quality, I was honestly expecting it to shed more than it did. If I get some time tomorrow I’m going to try a round in the 3.5”x3.5” box wedge and then probably flip in the single knife and really try and up the quality of finished pieces.

Not bad! The beast handled it pretty good!! I’m glad I haven’t had the pleasure of red elm in my woodyard😂 Great job Brent👍💪👍

It’s miserable. Burns long and hot like oak. The stringyness of it makes it worse for making nice looking pieces, but for a fireplace it’s great.

Great job Brent. Really impressed with all the usable wood verse the slash and trash. As soon as I seen the effort being used to push it through. I figured a ton of slash was coming as a result. Great content.

I was thinking the same thing…that and which push am I going to stall the motor and stick a round about 1/2 way through the wedge.

That is a wonderful machine. For running wet elm it did an excellent job. I personally buck my elm and forget it for several months. It seems to split much easier. But it is impressive your machine can run it so efficiently. Have a great day.

Totally agree. I don’t see elm very often in my wood yard and I figured it would be a really good test for the new 2x4 wedge. Hope you have a great week Around the Yard! - Brent

Elm😳 It turned out looking better than I thought 😂 That 35 is a beast! I think in my area red oak would look beautiful coming out of that 2x4 wedge. Nice run Brent👊🏻

Thanks Todd! I agree, red oak would look great. How is that Wolfe Ridge VS working out in your yard?

Welcome to Washington state raining weather. We got more coming this week. The elm turned out ok. But it will burn nicely one second.

I’m much more of a fair weather guy, unless it’s snow ❄️ then bring it on. Rain not so much. I should have moved the camera maybe, but on the last push or two the water was just pouring out of it. It was like making lemonade.

Pushing elm through the 2x4 box wedge is a terrible idea. Is something I would've done if I had the same wedge for kicks and giggles. LOL!
@AroundTheYard-MN5 ай бұрын
I would tend to agree 👍 but it has to be done, I along with everyone else looking at a box wedge ideally wants to know its limits. I’m kinda guessing the larger the box the easier it splits. If I have room maybe I’ll throw an elm round in for the Firewood Frenzy at Wolfe Ridge MFG on June 22nd.

Try splitting elm with an axe! Any hydraulic splitter is better to split elm with than an axe!

If and when you get elm in your Woodyard, what is you preferred splitter for handling it?

The Wolfe Ridge double pump is 38 GPM - only available on the 25Hp 800 EFI Honda and Kubota diesel engine packages. It may need a slight adjustment to the dump valve. I was expecting it to bog down after the first push or two. This is the 2x4 wedge as well. I would expect a larger box wedge to do much better in the stringy stuff, like a 4x4 or the 4.5x4.5. I can swap out to the standard 3.5x3.5 box and run a round and see how it does - stay turned I think that would be a good test for tomorrow.
