I really don’t care what the RO says as long as my hits/impacts are called consistently. Some venues don’t use “hit” because it sounds too close to “high” when ear protection is worn. If an RO with that experience comes to one of these matches they’ll probably still say “impact”. It really doesn’t matter.

That VZ52/57 is cool, I always kinda wanted one of those. Makes me wish I hadn't sold off my 16" SKS'. But I do have 7 AK pattern rifles. Please include the pistol stage. I want to see how that Tokarev does.

The penalty for leaving magazines behind is very good and should be part of any match that promotes itself as "practical". In a real world, you are not leaving those behind nor do you really need to do a super uber fast speed reload. That's IPSC stuff.
@SinistralRifleman
@SinistralRifleman 6 жыл бұрын
Practicality totally depends on the format. Retaining partials is unlikely to matter in a civilian or LE defensive shootings. Reloading the gun faster may be even more important when one doesn't have team mates covering them. Retaining partial or empty magazines is far more important in prolonged engagements or military operations. Here its just match rules and it doesn't actually encourage people to retain partials as much as it does to deliberately shoot extra rounds and empty the magazine. I once received a penalty for a partial magazine coming out of my dump pouch while prone; after that whenever possible I just shoot empty rather than doing a tac load to retain a partial.

I love those VZ52's! I had one in the "real" caliber of 7.62x45mm. Ammo alittle hard to get to its very fun. And yes, almost all of them have the stock crack right at that point, mine was as well. I think I really like them because they just aren't very common, almost unheard of, but are very well made had have a great (M14 style) trigger.

Impact is used in actual competition. Here, they are just trying to replicate the atmosphere of comp I guess.
@MikeDCWeld
@MikeDCWeld 6 жыл бұрын
@@EnkeiTenjin not in any of the ones I've seen. I've watched several of the 2-gun matches InRange has posted, both ones run by Karl and ones he and Ian have merely competed in, and they've *_ALWAYS_* said "hit". It's short and concise and easy to get plenty of volume behind. "Impact" could be mistaken for a miss direction and is easier for the shooter to miss entirely.

Technically, at least in artillery terminology, a hit and an impact are *not* the same thing. An impact is just the round landing *somewhere*, not necessarily on target. A hit is the round actually landing on or near the near enough the target to have effect. But hey, it’s their match, their rules.

I own a VZ 52. The recoil is straight back because the recoil tube is around the barrel. Pushing the carrier straight back inline with the bore. The trigger is awesome, apparently a copy of the M1 Garand. All though I haven't sat them side beside yet to compare.

potentially forcefully slows down the shooter. of course if the shooter falls into the "trap" of awaiting RO confirmation. even if they don´t await his confirmation, the shooter still needs to halt for a moment, to compute if the RO was saying something important or just being silly with his impact.

I'm just telling you what was happening during the stage when I was there. The "grumblings" were around people who tried (or wanted to) use their sling. I agree though, once you gave up on the sling idea it was easy to keep the rifle pointed down range.

It appeared to me the mag changes is what held Karl back, not the going prone. Also, to minimize risk of breaking 180 (it looked on the video like you did, once), wouldn't holding the rifle with your left hand, at the balance as you ran back have been easier?

I wonder if you could around the no dump pouch and penalty from dropping a mag with the old method of shoving the mag into your partly open smock (the belt should stop the mag from falling on the ground) would work. Of course if when moving around they fall out you are screwed. Might be a bit gamer though.

So I've just started watching them again after a while, can someone fill me in on their "no paint" policy?
@SinistralRifleman
@SinistralRifleman 6 жыл бұрын
If you paint targets at all, some people will have freshly painted targets (making the stage easier), and others will have shot up targets (making the stage harder). It is impractical to paint targets for each shooter. Thus not painting them at all prevents any difference in shooting challenge (its hard for everyone).

Why is there a penalty on dropping partially empty mags? Is there a safety concern?
@foleymaj
@foleymaj 6 жыл бұрын
Because you wouldn't do that in a real world combat scenario. In fact, you wouldn't even drop empty mags.
@d4ngru5h83
@d4ngru5h83 6 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing its more if you drop it in the 'real world' you've wasted ammo, and since this is a practical match it's meant to be as close as possible to 'real world'.
@genericpersonx333
@genericpersonx333 6 жыл бұрын
Indeed, as bullets are what actually are the dangerous component of firearms, one likes to ensure that as few bullets as possible are wandering unloved on the range and it also eliminates that nasty problem of someone accidentally stepping on a magazine, leaving you with a crushed magazine with live ammunition that may not appreciate your efforts to extricate it from its tomb; You can't just throw those in the garbage like an empty one. Not a huge safety issue, but as it is only hurts a few power-gaming competitors' scores, it is a worthwhile one.
@davidbotkin6032
@davidbotkin6032 6 жыл бұрын
There are two basic scenarios for firearms based combat: 1. Self Defense in peace time. 2. Battlefield Combat in war. In the first example, you can dump mags, whatever. No logistical concerns really apply. In the second example, if you treat your mags as disposable items you might just end up regretting this once you get into your 10th firefight. Because having only one mag sucks. Don't assume the Brown Truck of Happiness can always bring you new stuff. So if you are replicating a more battlefield type scenario then hanging onto mags is a Good Thing. And yes, this is real world. Some militaries (New Zealand for example) make their men tie off their mags in combat zones to help eliminate magazine loss. This is also done to prevent giving supplies to the enemy.
@SinistralRifleman
@SinistralRifleman 6 жыл бұрын
Because this is a combatives oriented match, leaving rounds behind is regarded as bad. What the rule does in practice is encourages people to shoot empty and not worry about retaining completely empty magazines.

What’s wrong with painting Target?
@legalboy71
@legalboy71 6 жыл бұрын
There's nothing wrong with painting the targets. More importantly, there is nothing wrong with not painting them. Since few militaries, thugs, or animals paint themselves colors that contrast well with their surroundings not painting is more realistic though.
@SinistralRifleman

If you paint targets some people end up with fresh paint and others with none. Not painting at all avoids the inconsistency argument.
