Wow... If you look at my Videos you will find two Red Steel 2 videos I made with a PSP-Camera mounted on a set of Legos. This set-up was stacked on a Chair with multiple books and Pillows on juuusst the right height - 13 years ago. I am 27 now. I completely finished it in 2 days. The End-Boss Video was minutes before me and my sister went to the videostore and gave the rented Red Steel 2 copy back... but I INSISTED that I have to show the world my Red Steel 2 skills before bringing it back. Thanks for making me remember this slice of my Life.

I find first person shooters on the Wii to be interesting since they do free aiming a lot of the time due to the infrared tech limiting where the controller could be pointed at. It resulted in pretty accurate aiming at what was on the current screen, but when having to turn the camera it’ll move slowly akin to like stick/d-pad/button/keyboard aiming. Honestly this is probably the reason why On-Rail Shooters were liked more than them on the Wii. Also it would’ve been cool if the Red Steel series got a VR game or another entry on Switch (although the gyroscopes in the joy-cons are more hindered than Wii motion plus due to the switch’s software side auto-recalibration which tends to cause drift and misalignment).

FPS games didn't really understand turning until metroid prime 3 and conduit 2, but by then the appeal was so tainted by red steel and far cry that no one ever wanted to play those games. such a shame, cause the later cod games and goldeneye controlled pretty well and had good campaigns dead space extraction does still slap though, one of the best on rails shooters imo

I remember getting all the way to the last level in Red Steel 1 before the disc conked out on me and wouldn't let me progress. I enjoyed it even though it is janky and the graphics aren't great. You can tell alot of love went into the game.

I've been playing Gungrave G.O.R.E lately and I think that's a series you should take a look at in the future. I really liked the first game on the PS2 and G.O.R.E still feels like an old school action game but in modern time. The game is flawed, but it's really ambitious with everything from designs to cut scenes looking like they had a lot of time put into them. I think it's a hidden gem for sure!

Red Steel 1 was the game I was most excited about before the Wii launch (after Twilight Princess). After it turned out to be disappointing, I never got around to play it but the second game is actually really fun and works as intended with Wii Motion Plus controls. The setting is cool, too.

Yay, RedSteel! I bought my Wii a little late, in 2010 and this was among the first couple of games I got for it and played through. It was FUN! I want to play it again some time in the near future. 11:52 - this track deserves more time in your review, you can barely hear it but it's a funky weird Japanese pop track inspired, it's called "Patchinko", look it up! "vAngel's Heaven" is another very good track, I used to listen to the OST a lot back in 2010. And the main menu of the game is pretty cool looking too, 12:28 - thank you for showing it off! The introduction of Red Steel 2 is so cool, when they drag you behind the bikes. I think the reason why I like Red Steel is that the games remind me of both Shogo and Shadow Warrior, two games I grew up with and loved to bits.

It’s nice to see a video giving some appreciation to the original Red Steel. I love a lot of the same things about it that you do. The arcade inspired shooting (even with the shitty controls), the varied set pieces and levels that struck a great balance between combat and downtime, the the fantastic art style that mixed traditional and modern Japanese aesthetics. Though I am a bit disappointed that you didn’t like the funhouse level haha. It came so outta left field that I couldn’t help but love it. It also kinda scared the shit outta me as a teen who had never played any horror games. Red Steel was one of the only games I played on the Wii and it’s still stuck with me over 15 years later. I understand fully what you mean at the end when you were talking about Red Steel 2. It’s undoubtedly a superior game technically and mechanically, but there’s just something about the original that’s really enamoring that the second one lacks.

Okay I'm glad this series finally got some real positive light on it! Mostly my thoughts on the first were the surprisingly fun multiplayer was janked beyond all fair play but was so fun. The second felt more like a brawler, but what got me about it was that it felt like a game that you could improv your combos on the fly. Like, instead of a combo being the same thing every time, you could mix and match parts of fighting game combos and it felt so, so cool

Red Steel 2 is painfully underrated. I replayed it a few times. Extremely fun combat. Red Steel 1 did have a really fun multiplayer mode, where you got secret missions from the microphone in the wiimote. That was however the only part of the game that was particularly special or fun. As a VR lover I have been waiting for some dev to copy the design of Red Steel 2's combat.

The Wii is the only console I ever got day 1 and this was the game I got with it. I think what you said about it representing and being designed around what people hoped/expected from the Wii is 100% spot on. I think it took me until like 3/4s of the way through the game before I finally got a decent handle on the controls, but I guess it helped prepare me a bit for Wiimote shooting in games that do it better like Metroid Prime 3 and Resident Evil 4. Never did try the sequel because I was kind of over the Wii by then, and some of the flaws in the video about how samey it was were apparent to me from what I'd seen of it.
