I try to do the same, but sometimes it's just too frustrating. Like when I tried to catch Groudon in Omega Ruby. When I didn't accidently knock him out, he kept escaping from every Ultra Ball, Great Ball or Pokeball I threw at him, and then he just used rest and recovered ALL his health. So, in the end, I was all "screw it" and threw my Master Ball at him. I then nicknamed him "Mr Cuddles" just to spite him. XD

Same here. Only time I ever used one was in Alpha Sapphire when I managed to get a Master Ball from a Secret Base trainer (you have to invite the trainer into your base and then have them "pick something up"; they very rarely give you a Master Ball). So I used that extra one to catch Deoxys.

You could also get an extra in lotteries. I think they're just rare and nobody is willing to give you an extra because you either caught the most awesome pokemon ever with it already or you wasted it because you're an idiot and you shouldn't have one.

I only use mine if the Ultra Balls just aren't working. Such as when I tried to catch Groudon in OR and it just kept resting and busting out of every single ball. In the end, I used the Master Ball and deliberately nicknamed it "Mr Cuddles" out of spite.
