Nothing nicer than seeing a genuinely nice guy riding his dream bike. When I tour with my best bike buddy he is on his GSA, and I’m a fan but the bank balance has got me onto an R9T …. love the Boxer and shaft drive family!

After 35 years on sports bikes I’m now on my 3rd GSA - the 1250 is the best and wafts along like a Lancaster bomber. It’s agile and much more capable that it ought to be, and that’s after being used to sports bikes (including some club racing).

3x GSA owner here - would not ride anything else. No matter how “hard I tried” to find the “next best thing”, I always find myself returning to the GSA. Currently, I’m on a 2021 1250 40th Anniversary. Will likely keep this one until I get over my dislike of the 1300 GSA.

That’s a marvelous machine and doesn’t matter what “they” say. That boxer engine is such a competent piece of machinery. It has limitations like everything on hearth, but definitely a reference in the motorcycle world. I have a BMW S1000 XR, witch is different in almost every aspect but BMW includes it on the adventure segment(?). As a sports tourer it is phenomenal. The GSA Rally with the short windshield and the short seat is a spectacular tourer for the summer and the BMW 1250 RT a fabulous bike to have, mostly for the winter time. Three big fantastic bikes that If affordable could make a person dream garage since the options were to lay on the preference for this motorcycle brand. Nice video, specially the departure of the Easy Jet plane. Fantastic 👌🏻

The bike that got me into biking was the Honda VFR 750 4th gen. That V4 engine was a peach. Sadly the BMW GS doesn't do anything for me. I realise it's a very accomplished and popular bike but it's not really for me. Interesting you mention the vibes on it. BMW seems to struggle to build vibe free bikes. Both the S1000R and XR suffer with vibes through the pegs and bars. The Triumph 1200 Explorer would be worth a look if the Tiger 900 GT Pro is anything to go by. Also like the KTM 890 Adv R and the 1290 Super Adv R.

Hi Alex, sweet I bet that was a beautiful engine, so smooth. Fair enough, I suppose if you liked the v4 so much then the boxer twin is very different. It was strange it definitely did have some small vibes through the handle bars. @@martyn_g I ride Hondas and Triumphs which do not suffer vibes, nothing on the scale of BMWs. I have ridden S1000R and XR and RNineT. All suffered from bad vibes. Shame as I really liked the S1000R with it's squinty lights. I have ridden KTMs as well 1290 SDR Beast and 890 Adv neither of which suffered from vibes like BMWs do. Also Suzuki Gixxers and Kawasaki ZZR1100, 1200 and 1400 none of which has any vibes. BMW seems to be incapable of building vibe free bikes. I don't know what their current S1000RR is like maybe that's fine, but I have my doubts.

Great video.I had a 2014 GSA 1200 which I traded on Monday for a very clean 2,000 mile Africa Twin with DCT and ES. Ironically, much of what I liked about the GSA were issues too not least it’s gargantuan proportions. I’m 5’8” and a bit so quite a stretch to the ground. Fabulous balance but a big lump to handle in ever busier traffic around Croydon’s cart track roads a skinnier steed was needed plus the DCT which is excellent. If the 1250 GSA was a tad lower (and I wouldn’t want the “low” option) with a DCT box that would be my ideal. I’ve become disillusioned with the build quality of BMW bikes and service from my “local” (35 miles away) dealer and their head office. Fingers crossed the Honda meets my expectations.

Congratulations on your your new bike, I test rode the Africa Twin a few weeks back and loved it, also used to own a 2016 model. The DCT version is such a relaxing bike to ride and I think goes really well with the character of the engine. Also ideal for riding in traffic. I am sure you will love it. I don’t think there’s a bike as versatile as this. Think about it - a 890R would beat this bike off road, but isn’t as comfortable as a GSA, nor as refined. And with the big tank, has far greater range. A R1 or some other sports bike, would murder this through the bends, but it can’t go off road at all. A touring bike is better for the long highways, but it can’t go off road. Jack of all trades, and the best bike I’ve owned.

GS all the way. There’s a pragmatic angle - reliability! Here in Australia it comes with a 5 year warranty and 3 years roadside assist. Most KTM dealers here are bollocks - so if something goes wrong, you have to deal with idiots! It’s the first time, I’ve bought a bike, and I’ve stopped looking elsewhere- nothing is as versatile. This is more capable off road and more comfortable- big tank gives you massive range, and from a day to day perspective would save you money as you can fill it up far higher when the fuel prices drop. 20,000km main service intervals (10K is just oil and filter) and you don’t need to add much in the way of accessories. To unlock the electronics on the KTM, you have to pay extra. With BMW it’s all included. To use turn by turn on KTM you have to pay a monthly subscription- with BMW you don’t. I bugger off on big trips into the outback - GSA all the way.

Fly by wire throttle. Very Typical. Vibes are normal and come in and out depending on Revs. Nothing to worry about.

Yes I think the vibes are normal something that you get used to once you have put some miles on the bike. Like all motorcycles you get to know its unique differences 👍 Cheers

I kinda like them but realistically to pricey and to big fer me as in Hight so would never be on my radar . : )

Fair enough, they are on the higher end of the price range. They do a low seat option that really is not too high (cannot remember off the top of my head!)

I want to like the GS but its just so Ott for me. Too wide, too tall, too heavy and it sounds like a horse farting. Still, great review.. has anyone ever told you you sound like bear grills? 🤣👍

Fair enough I know what you mean. I would feel self conscious riding it purely because it’s so big and expensive! It is full on! So good though. Thanks glad you liked the review. 😂😂 yes I have heard that once before actually!! Horse farting 🤣 perfect description!
