Great project John, I need that hollowing rig! The Redbud will be really nice once it is finished up. Can't wait to see the finish.

Thank you Carl, I have learned a lot from you and appreciate your taking the time to watch. I am doing a video on my hollowing set up next and should have it up soon. I just did a vase and got 12" deep with no problem (in camphor).

I have not used a face plate that much but that is a good idea with the router. Your video skills looked fine to me. I also like that rig looks heavy duty. Good Job! Hope to see more Chris

Thank you Chris. I have not had great luck with a spur drive in wet wood (I may need a two prong type) and the face plate is very secure although I use the tail stock as well always on the tough turning. Hope you will check out my video on making the captive guide. I does work well and was not much money (unless you add in the cost of the MIG welder I bought 10 years ago to rebuild a 1977 Bronco). Thanks for watching.

Thanks for viewing and you kind comment. I hope to have the completion done in a few weeks when it dries. I had some more cracking and soaked it in Pentacryl.

That is a strong looking jig, I take it the double support bars are to prevent you from loosing control of your chisel's if they grab while turning.
@JohnWilliams-oq5nm10 жыл бұрын
Yes it is pretty strong. I captures my boring bar so I don't get knocked out with a bad catch! The front takes the down pressure and the back guards against that kick back if it happens. Thanks for watching and your comments.

hi john nice work there thats a greate hollowing setup you have can you tell me the name of the respirator you are using.I seeing one used at a demo and haven't seen them since All the best Robbie

Robbie - the dust mask is a "Dust Be Gone" - I got it at Woodcraft, a little pricey but it washes out and is good as new. I think it is worth it. Several folks have commented on my hollowing rig - it will be my next video - thanks!

John How Do like the nova 1624?
@JohnWilliams-oq5nm7 жыл бұрын
I liked the 1624 a lot. I had upgraded to the DVR motor and that made a big difference. "shifting gears" got to be cumbersome. I would highly recommend a variable speed control. After I did this video Nova/TecnaTool had an open house in their St. Pete facility. They had a 2024 demo for sale and I upgraded to that. The 1624 with DVR motor took all of two days to sell! They are a great value and have met all I have thrown at it.
