the 8 and 9 pin sprockets are meant to run with full skip tooth chains because the bigger sprocket it meant to speed up the chain speed. and with going to the skip tooth you lose cutting drivers on the chain so the bigger sprocket makes up for the lost cutters. the skip tooth is best for big wood because when you are in the cut the chips fill in behind the cutter until it gets thrown out at the other side. using a full house chain the chips will fill the void to much if the log is to big and the cutters end up cutting the chips into saw dust. thus the birth of the skip tooth and the bigger sprockets. so the answer is it all depends on how big of wood are you going to cut. thanks for a great video.

this is bad vide for me. My interest is to cut all day the slower i can, so can i get on my neighbors nerves.

Nice. I was expecting that there would have been something up to about a 10% variation but I'd just about call the 3 results identical with a margin of error.

yea but listen to the rpm of the saw alot higher with 8 and 7 in but slower chain speed...those extra 1-2 k rpm makes up for the slower 7 pin kinda....i think it`s better to have the rpm higher on 2 stroke though

I am always going to lean towards more torque. Everyone focuses on cut speed, but they always only look at the "clean cuts." Truth is, it only takes one time for your teeth to grab or your chain to bind for your cut times to double. Give me something that is going to keep pulling even when it wants to bog down.

I would be interested to see this test with like a 20in bar on the same saw.

Times all really close. Temps all really close. That saw just has so much torque that sprocket doesn’t matter much? Interesting test.

I cant find 9-pin sprockets anywhere now. - im assuming this is 3/8 pitch - let me know if you know where I can buy a 9 tooth sprocket, ideally 3/8 pitch , 0.050 gauge. - I can only find 10 tooth sprockets.

Thinking to try a 9 pin-3/8 on my 592xp that I'm having ported, I typically don't run any bigger than a 24" bar.. are the 9's so large that they cause problems with an ordinary bar? Hoping I could get away with not having to cut the tail off the bar or make a custom one but I have to buy the sprocket first to see.

So the 8 pin has the best Numbers , i expected that , the only thing you can’t show is how they feel in the Wood , so that’s something to talk about. Great job , interesting and new stuff as always 💪

I am running a 10 t sprocket on one of my 2100s. Close to not enough power. Run an 8t on the other, plenty of power (unstoppable!). 9t is advisable from manufacturers!!!!!

Would the smaller sprocket (fewer teeth) increase torque? ...add teeth increase chain speed?

same results on 461 and 462. Stick with the 7pin unless you are doing full skip chain. That is the only time an 8pin MIGHT make sense. Ported or not ported.

Possibly running the chain faster may also require a raker adj? From 7 to 9 there 'should' be a significant cutting time change I would think. We need more research!

Hey brother got a question on my 661 I was trying to get ahold of you see if you can make the adapters for the carburetor looks like you machine them out of aluminum.. and do you still have the 30 or 32 inch lightweight bar for sale..timmyhart77@gmail.com... I want to put a K&N Filter Style what part number do you use for your k&n filters.. but I think that megaflow one on yours I think it runs better than the K&N that's my opinion but the K&N looks pretty beefed-up on it
