.404 definitely stays sharp much longer. Even smaller cutting machines like Ponsee and Bell and stuff like that run .404 Its just thicker metal where it matters.
I bought my large spline .325 9T on Amazon as a kit for Stihl. Came with clutch, drum and sprocket for like 11$. I just wanted the sprocket so I could do my 372 with .325 on it.

404 chain does have its merits, wider kerf for certain tyes of wood, more robust in dirty wood and much longer tooth for longer life. 404 is used quite a bit here in Australia but in general we run shorter bars with our hardwoods. I believe it works better on 90+ cc, slower revving saws.

Ive been looking for 3/8 8T. Large/standard spline. Cant find anything outside name brand sthil. I just cant justify the diff in cost

Thinking to try a 3/8 9pin on my ported 592xp, thinking that some modifying of the bar tail may be in order.. just hoping I can make it work once I've gotten it as the custom 9pin are expensive.. running 24'' bar hopefully that bigger sprocket will keep me off the rev limiter so I can make use of the extra power
@novicelumberjack11 ай бұрын
9 pin works on 592xp with no modifications except to remove the rubber chip deflector on the clutch cover. I've done it.

I know this doesn't help your request for help, but for awareness of the group, the last .325-7s that I got on e-bay had pictures of powermate (Oregon) brand, but generics were actually sent.

Ugh that burns me up. Report them for counterfeit goods. My last orders (sprockets) were "ok" but i've been bit before on things. Hell my wife got a counterfeit phone charger that almost caught fire.
@jjm3254 Жыл бұрын
@@mattfleming86 I wrote to the seller originally and he said something like sorry my source changed but it shouldn't affect performance. I just checked and his listing wasn't updated, so I pinged him for a second chance to make it right.

Buying on eBay. Where it's typically less than half price. Most know they aren't getting genuine pieces.

I run 8T .404 on my stock (muff modded) 3120xp and 084 pulling a 59” Oregon Hyper skip. It doesn’t mind it at all. Just tailor your grind.

Have a ?? How would I convert an echo cs-302 from spur sprocket to rim sprocket? If it’s 6 spur do I get 6 rim?
@matthewbeaver50264 күн бұрын
I just did this with my 590. I had to use the 620P rim sprocket. Find out the which pro saw is the same cc as yours. Then order that saws clutch cover/rim sprocket.

Make a 9tooth 325 small spline, loota of material on your table there and you have a lathe
@novicelumberjack Жыл бұрын
Thought about it. Might still do it, but what's stopping me is hardness. Last time I cut one of these for my Milwaukee electric, it was a total bear to do. Might still try it.
@chainsawcanuck Жыл бұрын
@@novicelumberjack could annealed it then re harden, unless you can find a small spline one, I have looked before and 99% sure no one currently makes them
