Colin and Carlos. Two legends that respect each other and were simply the best. They are the reason why I fell in love with the rally over 20 years ago when I was a little boy

I´ve never felt anything special about Colin aside from knowing he was a legend until today. Hearing Carlos, my favourite driver talking this way about him is special, like hearing Hakkinen remembering Schumacher, makes you know what kind of people they were. Rest never forgotten, Colin McRae.

Missing him since that horrendous Saturday we knew they had passed away. The next day I decided WRC was over for me, right then. Actually, Colin had been the last bloke that made me feel travelling to northern England and strolling 15 miles in mid November was the best moment every year. He would not be sideways anymore and I will never forget those pictures in my mind.

So far, there were at least 10 better drivers than McRae on the WRC, Röhrl, and Loeb, the undisputable best and Munari, Alén, Mikkola, Kankkunen, Sainz, Makkinen, Ogier, and Rovanperä the remaining 8. And there are some more, Vatanen, and Blomqvist, are two examples. But, as a delight to the spectators, yes, McRae was amongst the very best ever, on par with Toivonen and Vatanen, the trio that I will never forget to witness from the side of the stages. Actually, on the 80/90's, I knew a way to see the 10 lead drivers on the two first stages of the Rally of Portugal and, then, see the top 20 on the third stage, before driving to the 6th, or 7th stage, but, for a number of years, opted to see the beginning of the first stage, thus, losing access to the 2nd and 3rd stages, only to guarantee that I would see McRae passing at least once, this is how much spectacular he was. And, believe me or not, I once saw him doing a hairpin with the two front wheels momently suspended in the air, this is how much he cut the corner.

All I can say is that Subaru and Ford probably had the best driver lineup with these 2 titans but inability to communicate CLEARLY caused unnecessary friction. Of all the world's sport stars & drivers who passed far too soon, it's Colin who i seem to think about the most from time to time. He might not be the greatest driver on paper but to me he was the greatest & most exciting. WRC hasn't been the same since. Preferring winning a rally to winning a world championship seems a little strange to me, doesn't it? Helping a car evolve with endless hours of test after test and then being rewarded by not letting you win by being abandoned by your own team seems very unfair to me. On balance it is clear that Mr. Richards was quite cheat, manipulative and deceitful, as well as being quite ungrateful. Then, to a lesser extent, Liatti and Kankkunen also suffered it.

Decent job done by the editing team AI upscaling the old footage. Still a little wonky at parts and depending on the source material as is par for the course with that stuff, but it's not overdone so that detail is stripped away too heavily. Gotta give ye props for that. Most people just crank it all up and it makes everything look awful.
@badsystemmessage569210 ай бұрын
What do you mean? Where is AI here?
@BryanSteacy10 ай бұрын
@@badsystemmessage5692 a lot of the old footage has been upscaled and denoised, probably with Topaz Video AI. You can tell because some parts are uncharacteristically smooth or clean for the age, condition and origin of the source material. It's done really well here, it's not too overdone. Just enough to make things a little clearer.
