Ok here’s my thing about James Rolfe… He started out just being a huge admirer like most of us of movies and had that same dream of being a filmmaker in his late teens early 20’s like most of use that actually watch these kind of videos. But in school he realized that his talent was perhaps limited… Ok so he shoots a few videos of what would become AVGN and they skyrocket… All of a sudden he thinks maybe I can be a big time director. He formulates a plan/script that will unite AVGN and filmmaking with the ET movie idea… He makes it. Really puts his all into it…. It does not take off. Only really huge fans like the movie…. What you have now is he has succumbed that this is the best it’s going to get for him…. I understand why he has others do all his editing and a lot of his writing. The problem here is it seems other people thought they could snipe off of James fame to up their celebrity. I mean really do we need the amount of Content we get from Cinemasscre??? I don’t think James is burnt out but I do think he feels like his ultimate goal off becoming a serious film director is dead. He keeps going more now out of financial responsibility to take care of his family, and is honestly probably accepted his place… It was obvious that after the movie things changed. It was not well implemented, and his fans noticed. I was real late to the party on KZbin in general so it does fascinate me how a lot of what I would call “not incredibly talented people” got fame in coincidence with KZbin’s rise. James is above all likable. Many of the people around him are not. The first videos I watched were the round table discussions about 90’s and 80’s movies. This is because I’m a big RLM fan and like their model… which I think Cinemasscre kinda went for… Now it’s not plagiarism to sit around a set and talk about movies… Sadly I don’t think plagiarism is the word more than laziness… But yes there was also plagiarism…. I’ve lost the thread…. His band sucks though, they are not in anyway musicians and it is terrible… meh… In conclusion he’s no longer building to something he’s maintaining what he has.

I'm beating a dead horse and I've said most of this before on the subreddit or elsewhere. The major thing I will never understand is this is Bimmy's main source of income (unless otherwise). If he is burnt out or tired of it he should just move on to something else. He has all these hired hands to do most of the work for him (after screwing over his friends), yet he still phones it in and has no time. Image having such a cushy job and just quarter assing it, and getting all defensive when others question your work process/ethic. It's also moronic that when he bought that house he didn't have a plan for a good dedicated room or outbuilding for a workspace. With the whole Nerd room it could have doubled as a entertainment room. Instead of watching movies on a laptop he plans on reviewing, on mute with the subtitles on, because he didn't want to wake anyone (I wish I was making that up). Because he didn't want to use the Raycons he shills. There are many youtubers who work normal full time jobs and do multiple videos errr "films" monthly with little to no help. And here is Jimmy treating us like we are assholes when we questioned what was going on. Because having two kids somehow eats up all his time. But I don't have kids so what do I know? I just work 40 hours a week doing manuel labour well James sits on a futon reading whatever script gets handed to him a few hours a month. I guess I want him to suffer. Great video as always! Since you mention the technical side again, I wanna talk about something. Are you familiar with Joueur du Grenier? He's a French "AVGN ripoff", who, in my opinion, started like most copycats (ie. inferior to the original) but rapidly became a lot funnier and interesting than its inspiration. Their channel recently surpassed Cinemassacre in size, which is impressive given there's a much smaller audience due to the language barrier, and they've posted a studio tour video in 2021. It's... shocking. Basically they're like RLM - they have a huge hangar with all their equipment, props, a dedicated "nerd room" giving the illusion that it's just a living room with a couch, tv, etc, but plenty of space to shoot, put the lighting, etc. James has absolutely no excuses and it's obvious he is not tech savvy in terms of computers, which can be understandable, but he is also not tech savvy when it comes to filmmaking, which is just shameful. Look for "jdg studio tour 2021" if you're curious. PS: do that YKWBS video!!!!!

@@erysecret Well one thing that stood out is they complained about all the numbers/ stats when they had to pick players. Back when it came out Baseball was the number one sport in this country and a players stats were important. Baseball historically is the sport where the stats meant the most…prior to the steroid era and Baseball becoming a much less than huge national draw for attention.As a kid I loved baseball games and playing them. It was just clear they had no interest in the game or it’s nuances..it was just a device to bludgeon LJN. Those were some of the most half assed reviews imaginable.I have no interest in Pokémon so if I did a review anyone who saw it that enjoyed Pokémon would say this is a BS review by someone who couldn’t care less and knew nothing. Considering how little any of those slobs know about sports (which is virtually nothing) I would wager that screenwave ripped off key parts of that and filled around with James shtick. RBI Baseball was great but so many others like Dusty Diamond , Baseball Stars , Bad News Baseball… the baseball games on NES was a very consistent genre for that system.

@@erysecret Thanks very much that’s very kind ! I don’t have a Reddit account and outside of this tend to stay off social media but maybe I’ll give it a look! I have noticed that Cinemassacre has a good number of fans that will just attack you personally if you don’t like something about a channel or personality. Same can be said on politics now is much the same. The tribalist mentality will defend theirs right or wrong. I just think Over the years I’m seeing James as less authentic…he’s not much of a gamer and reading someone else’s scripts is pure lazy. I’m a writer (nothing accomplished worth bragging about) And seems to me he has no pride in his work anymore. It’s just for money and to prop up the slobs. I’m clueless on video editing but this channel explained it so it seems reasonable that a guy I thought was very clever at making videos is really bad and does dumb shit with tripods…even I know that’s a stupid idea to zip tie shit. He has no time and yet he when it came time to take responsibility he didn’t do any of it…He is like a mentally checked out spouse. One day he is just gonna divorce it all. To me James is like Halloween 2 - It could have been so much better and we wanted more. Instead we got one bad mistake making Myers related to Laurie which led to sequels of garbage.

I remember once him and Mike were talking about SNES vs Genesis and how Genesis was had a larger sports library and James said something like "well how many baseball games do you need? Shouldn't one be enough?" I thought wow is he clueless! Sports games imitate the actual physics of a sport. How could one game tackle (no pun intended) that?

Before hearing the podcast news that they were making a new AVGN game, I thought James was talking to the British guy about getting the actor likenesses from Back to the Future as an attempt to pay off in some kind of cameo. I thought he would get Christopher Lloyd to buzz in on the monitor to give his permission, and call the original NES game "a shitload of fuck" or something cringe like that, kinda like he did with Gilbert Gottfried. I've talked to elderly Christopher Lloyd, he's really nice and easy to get a hold of, I really thought that was going to be the payoff originally.

10:02 what a cheap bozo. With the money he has, he could have paid a professional to do the work correctly but he probably didn’t have the time to hire one and if the contractor is working overtime past 5:40pm, forget about it. Woof

i enjoy listening to guys that rip on modern avgn, its nit picky sometimes but a lot of times so true. that being said after all this time i wouldnt expect them to be as good as they used to be. especially working with the slobs now. but i still have a lot of respect for james and still love watching his old work from the glory days. me and the wife still need to checkout the old board james series.

Ya this 200th ep was so convoluted and the thing that irked me was I thought it was gonna be one ep and turns out it’s going to be a 3 parter? It was hard to follow the premise of it

Avgn really died for me with 200. It had potential and i thought he would do something really good. But it just felt like a desperate low-effort shit. Me after part I: Next will be funnier, next will be funnier Me after part II: Next hopefully will be funnier, it will be good... please let it be Me after Part III: ...*Deep sigh* "R.I.P Avgn" Unsubscribed: Screenw... What happened with AVGN and Cinemassacre is basically what happens when any counter-culture show or experience that runs too long for what it was. Instead of being fresh, edgy or boundary breaking, the shows eventually conform more to commercial, social and political correctness to try and stay bankable and on the air. In the process losing every aspect of what made it so amusing in its infancy. With AVGN: the movie was a dud and took the steam out of the rest of the show, James should not have made it and making Mike run the channel and then SW was a disaster. Simpsons and Family Guy buckled to every safe politically correct cliché and made every episode about going through the motions while losing what the characters were about. You either scale down and retain what you were about for less pay or sell out in the worst way possibly. Many sadly make the poorer choices. Even removing characters along the way or falling out with them so you are left with nobody but the memories of the past. And an audience that begrudgingly hate watches hoping things will change when they sadly won't.

I wouldn't say you guys are engaging AVGN in a bad faith way. I feel like you'd be happy to report that he has done things right, if that happens. The subreddit which you reference a lot (and seem to court their views) on the other hand, is pretty toxic. Nothing coming from that place is beneficial to anyone.
@anonymouscantor70362 жыл бұрын
The reason it seems mean is that it's just hard to find out that James never really actually knew what he was doing. The way he used to talk made some of us (and himself) actually believe he had a directorial vision.

I think his reasoning behind splitting the episodes were definitely the sponsorship deals. Why do one big video with one sponsor when you can do three? I see no other reason than that to split the video up. It was a very weird decision to make if that’s not the reason. Edit: also I’m hoping that there is so payoff in part 3? Maybe something to do with Freddy and Jason since the Halloween episodes felt like they were leading to something and just kinda ended?
@theunholinesswithin36012 жыл бұрын
I think the idea behind the LJN video was that the company was unable to do anything with their games because of copyright (money) issues. That's why James had those parts talking with that guy on the computer.
