I remember washing dishes with you at pizza hut. Telling you about seeing this guy on vine who was documenting his thru-hike of the Appalachian trail and telling you how i thought about hiking it one day and wanted to see if you wanted to come with me. When I told you it was 2000+ miles long you looked at me like i was crazy. Then the next week you came and told me "Lonnie I'm doing it". Well i fell off and didn't. But you stuck to it and I knew that as long as you got on that trail you were going to do it all. Im really enjoying the videos man it almost makes me feel like i'm there with you, keep up the good work. cant wait to see you at the top of katahdin. -Lonnie

I aspire to follow in your footsteps some day and you are fueling the inspiration for that. You may not realize, but you have conquered the biggest challenge, you took that first step on the trail 23 days ago. After that there is little that stands in your way. Your reward may be Katahdin but you're already a winner.

I love your positive attitude. That will get you down the trail better than an ultralight pack. Every person has their "comfort" pack weight. I could not carry your pack, but I am a barely 5 foot woman, so that makes sense. You have a quiet determination and good sense. I am enjoying your videos very much, especially when you show the resupply options. It is nice to actually see what is in each place. Hike On!

You are rocking it and I'm pulling for you to complete the trail. I've have been watching and enjoying your videos and I do not recall you ever have encouraged anyone to hike the AT the way you are doing it. People are going to have to figure out what works for them. If that is going UL, or carrying 40-50 lbs, so be it. As you and others have said, "hike your own hike". God bless and keep safe.

Keep up your spirit and keep your eye on God.

I love my ever decreasing gear weight, but I think we are weaning ourselves away from the reality of what humans can do. I remember the 70's and 80's, and here is a quote from the first triple crowner Eric Ryback's wiki page. "Ryback carried an 80-pound pack on his 1970 thru-hike. He had only five resupply packages on the entire trip and was loaded with 40 pounds of food at the start of each leg. He often ran out of food and foraged or went hungry." In some of the pictures I recall from Ryback's book, he was wearing Levis. We're pretty spoiled today with modern gear, and resupply options.

Right on. HYOH. Just started watching today. Hope you find what it is you are looking for. Not interested in being in the contest but I would guess 189 and 163. I'm from Maryland and hiked some of the Virginia section back in the 70's. I know my pack must have weighed near 40 pounds with all the "emergency" stuff I carried. Started back up section hiking in 1999/2000. My Base weight is down to 20 but I don't hike cold weather. Loving the videos. Make em the length you see fit.

enjoying your videos, I really like that you are showing the shelters on your videos, I've been watching AT videos for about six years now and that just seems like no one films them. There's a lot of people who think they have a lot of "trail knowledge". They are the ones usually that never attempt to do what you are doing. Hopefully I will do the AT one day.

hike your own hike. most people get a little crazy with ultralight. me included but I just try and help people who might be struggling and not criticism on how it should be done. I've hiked many many miles with 45# + when I did a lot of alpine climbing in the early 2000s. even climbers on Mt everest climb with a lot of weight. to say the Appalachian trail can't be hiked entirely with 50# is ridiculous. you are kicking ass. slow and steady will win the race. you are doing it exactly right..for you..and that's what matters.

One who will get there,, ones who wish they were stronger, others who will make it a month.... But the ones who follow their pace and keep moving make it.... that is the main difference... it is the steady turtle the ones who do the steps that make it.... so keep the feet moving, head on straight and set each day up to get to you goal. so come March 2020 i will start over and do my thru hike... hoping to take these year of experience to make it a full hike.

It really bothers me that someone would tell you that you are hiking the trail "the wrong way". You are not encouraging anyone to take anything with them. The person who said that to you must think that they know way more than they do. The fact that you are doing it without going ultralight and you don't seem to be having any major issues just tells us all that it can be done any number of ways. You keep on keeping on and being true to yourself. I think you are doing an awesome job and love seeing your videos. God Bless and hike on.
