Fred and Velma are both the team's brain: Velma being the logistic part that does the detective work, while Fred is the creative part, setting up scenarios and traps to prove Velma's theories and catch the bad guys. While Shaggy and Daphne are the team's brawn: Shaggy being the fleeing brawn, as he's fast and nimble enough to catch up to Scooby, which makes him a perfect bait, and Daphne being the fighting brawn, for when the team actually needs to throw hands. Scooby is the team's wildcard, safety net, and kind-of an extention of Shaggy, to where he will protect him if he's ever caught or endangered.

You want "mature" Scooby Doo, Mystery Incorporated did it the best. Or close to best. if you wanted to beef Shaggy's character up, why not make him into theater? 1:47 I think the main reason why Velma doesn’t work and the other shows you listed do is because there are characters that aren’t assholes like the main character. For Bojack,there was Todd,Diane,Princess Carolyn,and Mr. Peanutbutter. Bojack was a complete asshole,yet the show was great because of these characters calling out his trashy behavior. At the beginning of Family Guy,the characters were like able,but many people have stopped watching it because of how unlikeable they’ve become. Velma is exactly like this. The main character is a complete jackass,yet there’s no one who balances this behavior out. Everyone in the show hates each other and are complete jerks. There is no problem with having a main character as a jerk,it just doesn’t work when everyone is a jerk

The F in Fred stands for Friend
@DollFaceThornback Жыл бұрын
I'd kind of love seeing a scooby show that was somewhere between leverage and supernatural, fairly episodic where the enemies are both men and more traditional monsters! Fred would work on physical traps for monsters, Velma could work on legal/evidence gathering based traps for bad guys, Daphne could be physical muscle helping Fred with traps and also help identify and lure bad guys into Velma's traps, and Shaggy could be the one with monster based knowledge! It would explain why he's so scared, since he would know how dangerous traditional monsters are, and why he would be involved since he doesn't want his friends getting hurt if they bite off more than they can chew, so to speak. Scooby would obvs be a service dog, but I think it would be funny if he was also some kind of supernatural dog too, like a Grim or a hellhound or something! But yeah, I think Shaggy would make a good Arnold from the magic school bus style character, the kind that doesn't want to mess with things beyond his understanding and prays for a normal bad guy situation but refuses to leave his friends no matter the situation! And I really like the concept of Daphne being tough and cool but also being really feminine and pretty and being able to switch between the two as the situation calls for it! Velma and Fred have already been fleshed out more consistently than Daphne and Shaggy throughout the various iterations iirc, so I have fewer ideas for them, I guess. Anyway! I hope this was enjoyable to read and I really enjoyed the video! Have a good day!

With Shaggy, i think it's great for him to love mysteries, but doesn't like being bait or near the monsters at all. First to run, and more cautious of the group! I think I've seen this idea before :3 You know, with Fred in Velma, the idea that he came from being a privileged buttface to "woke" is actually pretty compelling if they took it seriously. He's a jerk, but harmless at first until he learned and opened his eyes and became the cinnamon roll that everyone loves. I would do a reboot in a way that monsters are real and the gang (except Fred) are monsters and go around the world as supernatural investigators to try and solve murder and theft crimes by monsters or humans immitating popular bigot monster stereotypes that tie into more personal conflicts rather some big real estate plans the old ones do which would add more episodes to solve a single case. There would also be more action in the gang, in a self defence sort of way and less trappy as they won't initial have to time for that at the beggining of the case as their life is on the line so they would take a more proactive approach at first

Omg, I love these designs for the original characters! I feel like they look so good in your art style, as well! I've been thinking that a great option for a new Scooby-Doo series would have been something along the lines of Scooby-Doo: The Next Generation. It would start out where the original Scooby gang are now in their forties or fifties and have reconvened after they went their own ways. Now, we not only get a glimpse into how their lives have progressed, but we get to see a whole new generation take on the same challenges and mysteries that the original gang tackled, but in today's world with a different set of problems they have to face and consider. I think this would have been a great way to integrate more diversity and representation into the show, too, while also providing some depth into the original characters and providing viewers with a blast of nostalgia. We get to see how the crew have matured into good parents and role models, how they've instilled good morals and compassion into their kids, and taught them to be think critically of the world around them. However, parents aren't always right, and we see the kids also challenge and discover a lot of things along the way. As we get to know the original gang a bit better and are introduced to their kids, we also see a new crew form as the kids make some friends along the way and find themselves tangled up in a whole new mystery. The gang's kids have grown up hearing stories from their parents, aunts, and uncles from the original cast and have managed to encounter some new friends who share their intense passion for mysteries and adventure. Maybe the series starts with the original cast all flying in to stay at shaggy and his partner's house, to celebrate the anniversary of a business they had started in honor of Scooby-Doo. I'm imagining they're doing something to care for and help out abandoned and neglected animals. The gang is quickly swept away in nostalgia, however, as they look through photo albums, talk about old times, and what's happened in their life recently. The kids always loved going to visit their uncle Shaggy and beg their parents to stay the summer. While helping out at their uncles' business, one particularly mischievous puppy runs away and everyone is out looking for them. They happen to encounter two local kids who help them to find the missing puppy and the puppy seems to become quite fond of the new group of friends, as they start to hang out together while taking care of the pup. In this way, they find that they share many common interests, like fantastical stories of great adventurers, detectives, and a strong passion for improving the world. So, the kids invite their new friends over to hang out at their uncle Shaggy's house and, from there, some fun summer adventures ensue for the new crew. It's just an idea, but I feel like this would not only provide the sense of nostalgia and closure that fans want for the old crew, but also give an opportunity to tell a new story with a new cast that a lot of fans also wanted to see and were excited about. I also definitely think that it's possible to have a mature story that also appeals to a younger audience. I'm just thinking of Avatar: The Last Airbender or Korra, for example.

I think a really good adult rewrite of the show would have still had all the core elements without it seeming kidish. They could have pullrd a mystery inc with the gsng trying to figure out why scooby could talk, or scooby could have this connection with shaggy that shaggy cant literwlly here him but understand what hes thinking while we have scoobys internal diolouge, etc. And instead of having them go to higschool, I think it would have felt a lot less awkward and provide s lot more operunities if they dident go to highschool and instead be going around in the mystery machine or atleadt be in like college. Idk tho
@froggpiss6592 Жыл бұрын
there were just so many ways to flesh out and expand these characters well, and its just so disappointing that it seems like they made the characters before deciding to attach the scooby doo gang name to it. i mean, this show couldve taken place in a college, and it couldve explored the career paths of the gang, and them meeting at college when they already think they have everything planned out. i love the idea of shaggy having scooby as a service animal for his anxiety and having an interest in all things cooking or going into theatre or just having niche knowledge of things. the live action scooby doo explored the idea of daphne being interested in self defense, and scooby doo mystery incorporated expanded on fred kinda being a lovable himbo who has a really niche and deep interest in traps. velma absolutely couldve been both a nerd interested in technology and a geek interested in comic books, and hey, why not throw in a hobby of knitting or painting? (personally, i'd love for an autistic lesbian velma, and an adhd shaggy, at the very least- very best with poly scooby gang- but thats just my opinion.) when this show was first announced, i had good hopes, and i was giving it the benefit of the doubt every time someone speculated something about the show before it came out. the race changes were never a big deal to me, it shouldnt affect their character so much as benefit it, so why worry? the gore and nudity in the first image look of the show didnt seem like a big deal. mystery is a very easy pipeline to murder, and mystery is pretty much the name of the game for the gang. without me even watching it, i know the problem with the show isnt the race changes or the gore and nudity, its that they don't know what their characters are supposed to be like and they don't know who their audience is. if its for adults, why place it in a high school? if its for gen z, wheres the real humor in it? they made jokes, but none of them were funny, none of them landed, and no one liked them. its like they were trying to aim for a target audience of everybody and themselves, and only ended up making a show for themselves. if this show gets picked up for another season, do not hate watch it, because that is the only reason the show got views in the first place.

Putting excerpts in body-shaming seems to be missing the point, 'cause the thing isn't that body-shaming is wrong because of who has it better than whom, but because when you body-shame a character, you're shaming everyone who shares that thing with that character, you can't criticize someone for being fat or having delayed puberty just to turn around to a friend who has that same thing and say "but it looks good on you".

Very late but honestly like your redesigns/rewrites!!! They're very nice and your art and voice is very nice and appealing ^^☆ you even made the ethnicity changes work better!!! (Velma's feels more like a cashgrab attempt to look cool) , your coloring and shading is perfection in its own right. I really like your style ^^ The difference between Velma and something like Bojack Horseman is that Bojack Horseman actually is well-written, he's an awful person of a protagonist but everything is incredibly *real* from what I've heard. Velma is terribly written and it's take on Velma is just a jerk to be a jerk- because her voice actor is a jerk and wanted Velma to be a self insert. Bojack handles things with the psychological effects of these things in mind, it takes real things and doesn't get all "ew white people" almost every video. Velma unlike Family Guy or smth, isn't funny either. It just actively pokes fun of the people it wants to watch the show, it tries to TELL you the joke but does nothing to actually put humor into it. Family Guy was always lol-random make fun of anything kind of show instead of exactly wanting to take things seriously, but even then some people critique it for taking jokes too far sometimes like with Meg.

I did not realise that Fred could be that terribly written until Velma happened. The original Fred was so bland and had no distinctive personality traits. That means now Fred can be anything. You want an astronaut-related mystery, hey now Fred likes astronauts. You want a celebrity guest star, Shaggy and Scooby probably know who they are and Fred has a chance of somehow being related to them. I'm pretty sure one of the movies had him in love with the mystery machine and had him mourn its destruction.

Fun fact! Originally, Velma was meant to be asian. BUT the artists decided not to go in that direction because having two beautiful girls in the friend group was pointless if they wanted diversity(yes, and the nerdy asian stereotype wasn’t a thing yet I think). So instead they changed her into a white girl with brunette hair and thick framed glasses. In her og design she had black hair and smaller eyes, no glasses, and was MUCH paler.

For adult cartoons and for us watching bad people do bad things here's my explanation. Family guy doesn't work due to the lack of self awareness and it being very lazy writing overall with no learnt morals and just mock things for the sake of begin mocked, all they do is abuse Meg Bojack Horseman *does* work and it does have a self aware tone however Velma doesn't fit in with that since it's constantly bending over backwards and being quite hypocritical. Bojack is genuinely one of the best shows I've ever consumed, the whole show's about him being a washed up sit-com celebrity who keeps endlessly getting himself trapped in his own poor actions. Yes, he had an abusive childhood however the show doesn't take advantage of that and give him any justification. I highly recommend it since you haven't seen it As for Rick And Morty, I have no say since I've consumed the seldom of any canon content with them, I usually watch analysis videos on them occasionally but not much for me to say anything (try maybe watching some of KittyMonks videos on it)
