Steven Seagal needs to make a movie in which he's investigating a little town where people are freezing to death after a jacket shortage, water is contaminated with urine, all the beehives went missing, and the church burned down, only to find that the villain behind all this is that action movie star shooting his new film and ruining the locals' lives in the process.

That Roseanne episode took jump the shark to a whole new level. To the point that it needs its own phrase like "jumped the track". It had already taken a left turn with the family winning the lottery, but that terrorists on the train plot was the last nail in the show's coffin.

Discovered this series today and been binge watching it since...believe it or not, here in South America, Steven Seagal is really popular, that is why in the early 2010s he latched on UFC fighters. What is more, in the 90s, he was called by a lot of people "Nico" because of his movie...he was utterly popular and a lot of people still revere him as the real deal

A shame it was cut down so much. The opening flashbacks are a pretty obvious greatest hits of scenes that were lost. The trailers have a great deal of footage missing from the film. Film was filled with musicians in an effort to keep Steven happy. Didn’t the Razzies have a “couple” nomination for Steven and his guitar? Love Fire Down Below and it’s multitude of jackets. Watch out for the bad continuity when the blonde girl stands up behind Kris Kristofferson in his last scene. And the snake which reappears in Seagal’s room even though he just put it out the window.

I wish they'd rerelease this film to streaming or DVD/blu-ray with all deleted scenes restored, plus the alternate ending where Sarah (Marg Helgenberger) shoots Earl (Stephen Lang) with a shotgun. Apparently Earl didn't die in the mines like he did in the final cut, and he came back to the house, physically attacks Sarah and she shoots him.

BombReport has some important details on Seagal in their entry about this movie. To condense their info a little: After Under Siege, Seagal was at his peak and WB arranged for a 4-picture deal with him. The deal would be that he toplined 3 pictures for WB, then he could make 1 'out' picture for another studio, and then one more for WB, which would have been 5 pictures total. The first picture on the deal was On Deadly Ground and WB immediately regretted their purchase. They still had to finish the deal, so they did the film they had the most hopes for, Under Siege 2: What the hell is Dark Territory? and then The Glimmer Man. Next Seagal was working on the 'out' picture for Sony, Fire Down Below, with the every lovable Jon Peters. Peters left his producing deal and Sony and went back to WB taking his projects with him, including Fire Down Below. WB used this as the 4th movie in their deal. The article doesn't say if something else became the "out" picture but it doesn't completely clarify that. Executive Decision was a WB film as well, but it seems to be extra credit either way. Still, there are a lot of rumors around Executive Decision. I don't think most are true. I'm sure Seagal was a complete gentleman on the set. After FDB, WB was done with the "Cantankerous Butterball". Seagal was done with studio film until popping up with Exit Wounds (before dropping down again).

This was the film where I was finally able to prove to a friend of mine who was obsessed with Seagal that he was full of shit! The characters are all rejects from an episode of Walker: Texas Ranger. The plot goes nowhere. And Seagal proved he has NEVER worked a day in his life by wearing that stupid suit when he is out in the yard working on building steps in it. Since they're having all these backyard hoedowns in Kentucky, it's late spring-early fall. And it gets HOT! Way to hot to be wearing some fancy BLACK jacket and suit which just attracts heat! There was no way my friend could justify his way out of this one! Seagal was definitely loving the smell of his own excrement by this time. Not even trying. I guess he must have seen the television film Drive at some point before shooting, since they stole the truck stunt from that much more entertaining flick.

I actually really enjoy “Fire Down Below” as a film. The cast is littered with folk / country music legends, including Kris Kristofferson, Levon Helm, Mark Collie, Randy Travis, Stephen Lang, Travis Tritt, Harry Dean Stanton and many others. As for Kris Kristofferson’s portrayal of the bad guy, if petrochemical executives are anything to go by (I’ve encountered a couple in my time), then his portrayal is relatively accurate. I also understand that (some of) the filming took place on location in Kentucky. And the drawl/accent isn’t “Southern” - it’s Midwest or Appalachian dialect.

Kris Kristofferson - singer/songwriter/actor - see him in Blade, the first (?) Marvel live superhero film. Kris is terrific in Blade.

9:10 This scene was stolen from the Steven Spielberg movie Duel. Even uses very similar camera angles.

Kris Kristofferson is an American icon. He can look as "tight" as he wants. He wrote Me and Bobby McGee FFS. Plus he trains vampire hunters, so... there...

If the Italian Mob had jesters. I hurt myself laughing at that one. Loving all these spot-on reviews, thanks! This was another of the one and done Seagal flicks for me and actually one of the only movies I ever almost walked out of, it's so bad. This joins Hard To Kill, Under Siege 2, Exit Wounds and Half Past Dead as one and dones. Everything he made since those, I havent seen except for clips on channels like this to properly shit all over him.
