I listened to this song with my bassist friend and 2-3 other musicians friends while my band and I were rehearsing in a small house for a week. We really did relate to the melancholia, the atmosphere of the song. It was connected to this moment. My friend passed away in February of 2021. I was a late for his burial day, and at the exact moment I went into the cemetery, this song was playing through the speakers before his coffin was about to get buried. We never really talked too much about how this song was important for us, and when I heard it this day I felt numb and deeply sad. And it hit me like a ton of bricks, how much we loved each other and how much I will miss him.

It is both heart wrenching but very personal how a song will do that to you, and never let go. Forever bittersweet for the now and after. It will always be special to you, just in a sad way, but forever binding you two together, like a ceremonial breach through time. I am so sorry for your loss, but forever wish you many wonderful memories, bittersweet or pure happiness.

Shite! I was wondering why he said "two favorite allies" when there are three friends
@cicitmungil4 жыл бұрын
Folks Lyric Meaning : 1. "...This song is about a trip Anthony Kiedis took in rural California with John Frusciante and Flea: "Road Trippin with my two favorite allies." This trip consolidated their friendship in this new phase of The Red Hot Chili Peppers. The song reflects a more mature Kiedis, who wrote about this friendship triangle in "Under The Bridge" when he felt left out." 2. "... like the line "these smiling eyes are just a mirror for [the sun]" it's an alternate way of looking at the value we place on ourselves as individuals. We look out from our eyes and see the world as though we were the center of it, and as though the world revolves around us. We are the main character in the story. But in this, our eyes are so much more insignificant. Simply mirrors for the sun. It's humbling- but not debasing. I think the intent is not to say that we are worthless, but to say that we are small. Juxtaposed with the rest of the song, we need to let go because we are small and not significant, and must make the most of what we have. For them, it is hitting the surf. For another, it might be devotion to ones family, or religion, or the environment, or cooking if they love that- but do what is important to you, and remember your eyes are just a mirror for the sun." 3. "...to me this song means getting away with the people that mean most to you and it doesnt mater where you go, as long as the company is right your'e gonna have a good time and get away from your problem for a while" Song Fact : ~ This is one of the few Red Hot Chili Peppers songs with no drums. Drummer Chad Smith appears only briefly at the end of the video, arriving in a boat ~ The Peppers used a Chamberlin Organ on this song to get the sort of orchestral sound. According to Anthony Kiedis and Chad Smith's interview on Music Express, the original intention was to get legendary Led Zeppelin musician John Paul Jones to arrange that part. They decided against it after seeing how much it would cost them.

@sds_play_button60513 жыл бұрын
@@HerrRaccoon Yeah if compared to their other big mainstream hits like Californication and Can't Stop, yes it has way lesser YT views, but objectively speaking, 32 mil is *not* an underrated figure by any means, especially for an alt rock number. Stuff like Mellowship Sinky in B Major, the B Side tracks from almost all of their albums (with John and Josh), and some masterful tracks from By The Way (Warm Tape, Dosed, Venice Queen and I Could Die for You) are what's really underrated, considering how big of a band RHCP is. But, you know what's truly underrated? John's solo albums, and even Josh's. I think we both can agree on that.
@handlog90464 жыл бұрын
FOR THOSE WHO WANNA KNOW WHY CHAD AINT HERE I PICKED THIS UP FROM WIKIPEDIA: The song tells of a road trip along the Pacific Coast Highway in which lead singer Anthony Kiedis, guitarist John Frusciante and bassist Flea surfed at Big Sur following Frusciante's return to the band. Drummer Chad Smith did not take the trip with his bandmates due to other commitments and also because he wasn't into surfing. As such, Chad Smith only appears briefly halfway through the video, arriving in a boat. As you can see here 1:50 there are 4 people.

How awesome would it be to sit in that house with those 3 guys (or four) while they are creating this music? The talent and creativity they share when letting the music build itself is simply beautiful.

Californication was my favorite RHCP album. Road trippin was always that one song that just stayed with me, to to mention it was the closing track! So glad John is back with the group.

Yeah... But I feel bad for Josh. I like a lot that boy and don´t like he leaves the band. Being barely 40 years old he gives youth to the guys.

@@mcvmalaguitaman1 He's a nice guy and an extremely talented guitar player, I loved the last album, but I respect his choice, hopping that we'll hear more of him on top of the charts.

I laugh seeing Flea running into the surf in his wet suit. Just exuberance, he'll thankfully never lose that energy and wonder of a being a kid. The new album made me fall in love even harder with the 2nd coming of John to the band. Please come back to your RHCP family, John
