That PKD analogy is perfect. That and the weird blend of sci-fi trappings with Gnostic-style religious imagery makes these clips feel oddly PKD-esque, and you’re right, the cop/drug dealer thing where you’re confused about what the hell is going on is very Scanner Darkly. Serious question: is Born into Mafia supposed to be a modern adaptation of Hamlet? There's an evil uncle who murders his brother to get his throne, and then sets his sights on his brother's son. The son gets disillusioned about the business as a whole, and wonders if any of it is even worth it. Meanwhile, he's being constantly plagued by visions. He's also got two interchangeable friends who are way in over their heads and are killed off unceremoniously.
