Let´s face it, there is a serious lack of talent in Hollywood these days. Film scripts are put together with spit and duct tape, the days of truly being awed at the end of a movie are long gone. And directors rely on pew pew, shiny lights, and snazzy effects to camouflage the fact that they don´t have either the skill or the patience to do it right. And that lack of talent rubs on the actors as well. Even top box office stars find it hard to be motivated to deliver a proper acting performance once they see the quality of their lines, and the caliber of the scenes they are asked to perform. The vision of Luke Skywalker drinking alien tittie milk comes to mind, you could see Mark Hamill was truly disgusted at the scene. Sorry folks, but Star Wars, Star Trek, Predator, Alien, and so many more cult franchises we grew up fascinated with are dead. And there is no talent in Hollywood anymore to bring them back...
@misanthropicservitorofmars21166 жыл бұрын
Darth Mucus it’s because Hollywood is about making money. And risk doesn’t equal reward most of the time. So instead of taking a risk on a new IP, and potentially losing. They need to make big budget safe movies to make back a profit. It’s a sad money system. That’s why I like other nations film studios. Especially Bollywood and Nollywood. India is now making epics and on a grand scale. And Nollywood is about as pure as you can get. It’s people with shit cameras making movies about things that personally inspire them. Hollywood is a Chinese money making scheme at this rate. Nigeria and India are making good cinema with compelling narratives and beautiful risky ideas.

Well, Mike and Rich are good and all, but I have no idea why people who used to work on the shows weren't tapped. Ronald D. Moore for example, wrote lots of episodes of TNG, DS9 and Voyager, and produced parts of all three series, then co-created the Battlestar Galactica reboot. The guy knows his Trek and is responsible for some of the best of it. He's also still alive and making TV shows. Why on earth wasn't he put in charge of making new Trek?
@richter01574 жыл бұрын
@@MidlifeCrisisJoe because that's not what the general audience wants. And since GA equals safe money, you get dumb.
@MidlifeCrisisJoe4 жыл бұрын
@@richter0157 Yeah I wish that were true, but as Mike and RLM pointed out ALL the way back in their TNG Movie Plinkett reviews, it's simply not the case that the "general audience doesn't want smarter Star Trek." They pointed out that the BEST selling Star Trek movie of all time until the end of the TNG movies was Star Trek 4: Save the Whales, which wasn't super action packed, was fairly light-hearted, and has an extremely esoteric plot about going back in time to abduct whales to bring them into the future to communicate with an alien probe. This was juxtaposed against the "popular" (at the time) TNG films like First Contact or Nemesis, which were ugly, dumb, and violent. Star Trek 4 even did better than the more action packed and violent films in its own era, like Wrath of Khan and The Undiscovered Country (and those, while darker and more violent than standard 60s Trek fare, were still at least competently intelligent about it). On top of this, the Abrams films proved without a doubt that dumb action schlock has zero staying power with Trek. It suckered people in with the first film since I think a lot of people thought the idea of a general Trek reboot wasn't a bad idea at the time, but both sequels did TERRIBLY for their huge expense (only making any money due to foreign markets). People vote with their wallets and most of the voting on this franchise has been that people want neat sci-fi premises that aren't depressing and they can take or leave action scenes. This isn't actually about what the general audiences actually want. It's about what the dumb-ass producers THINK what GA audiences want. And yet, with so many Trek alumni creatives still around and producing entertainment like Ron Moore or Ira Steven Behr - people who had a ton of experience producing Trek shows at the peak of the franchise in the 1990s - they still won't tap them. It's ludicrous because by this point, there's just a ton of statistical evidence in box office receipts and viewership ratings that the action schlock doesn't work. I wish we could still blame Rick Berman for this.

The *Galaxy's*, on board computer is fried and in order to run the ship's systems including priority ones like life support, Picard's only option is to plug Data into the ship basically making him the ship's OS. It’d be neat if his son is over-confident because he’s terrified of being too much like his father: unsure, awkward, bumbling, etc. But through out the show, his over-confidence gets either himself or the crew into trouble, casting him in self-doubt and fear, bit at the same time, helping him to understand his father better. Over the course of the show, he learns to be more thoughtful and patient, this combining his strengths with that of his father’s. Just a thought. :)

My theory is that the Romulan sun went Supernova because a remnant of the Jem'Hadar decided to detonate it as payback for the Romulans going onto the Federation side during the Dominion war. Plus the founder impersonating Bashir had similar tech that can artificially cause a Super Nova. It makes sense that a remnant of the Jem'Hadar can get access to such a device.

@JigglePhysics30006 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't really call it fan fiction. This might just be because of the negative connotations of that term, but what Mike is doing here is more akin to a serious script idea in my opinion. Most fan fictions will include self-insert characters and have batshit insane plot points. Also, most of this is far more general, loose plot direction, not so much an actual script or story. I still feel your comment, and you're technically right I guess, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, haha.

Hearing Mike and Rich talk about Star Trek makes me nostalgic for the old days of Trek. I figured I would share this old Trek story with die-hard Trek nerds both Mike and Rich as well as fans of RLM. When I was 9 years old I met William Shatner at a Trek convention. I was beyond nervous in line while wearing a TNG season one Data uniform. Upon my turn I froze, then said, "Your MY biggest fan!" I not realizing my linguistic blunder I kept my cool meeting my Trek idol. My mother shattered my reality with, "He's YOUR biggest fan?!" When the flop-sweat hit I was struggling to think of something else to say. I had a toy Tribble in my hand and my mind went to the TOS blooper real on the Star Trek 25th Anniversary Special VHS. I held up the Tribble in Shatner's face and said, "You're in good hands with Tribbles." while squeaking. I turned around and walked as quickly away as I could. That day passed into legend with my family. Fifteen years passed and I met Shatner again and told him the story. He stopped me and said, "But, I AM your biggest fan!" After a laugh I gave the mic to someone else and returned a high five to a full out Klingon Warrior waiting for his turn in line.
