Hi, I wanted to tell you that I admire what you are doing and how much of it you are doing yourself. It has to be so rewarding to accomplish all that you have. I am so glad I found your channel. I've gone back and watched them all. I wish there were more! Your voice is sooo soothing and your stories are great. Here in Colorado we have some Cowboy Poets. That's what your stories are like. No, they aren't. There's no cabinets, fixtures, lights, flooring, paint, baseboard, etc. etc. Plus, all that exterior drywall and insulation gets torn out anyway just wait.

Excellent music choices, particularly the beginning. The easy pace of the music juxtaposed to the frenetic speed of the sheetrock hanging just worked very well. And, I'm confident you'll never raise a fist to any of your kids, no matter the infraction.

It's true, that drywall lift is a GODsend! Must admit I did 1 level of my one house without it, and I still suffer from it now I'm older. But that drywall hanging is moving right along for you, and while it doesn't need to be perfect, careful fitting now makes for easier taping later ;)

The first time I did drywall, I had to cut it into 4x4 pieces because I couldn't lift the 4x8 sheets by myself. I stood in the high chair because I didn't own a ladder and my 3 yr old daughter handed up the drywall nails to me. Thank goodness for the advances I've made and the wonderful tools I've been able to buy since then. Now, drywall is a piece of cake.

You make lovely videos, the story telling with the music, very nice. Side note: I think you should consider putting in a transom window in the wall by the stairs in that one room, it would let in light from that side of the house since you will be on solar. My 2 cents ;-) Well done!!!

Also , I’ve found it easier when doing bedrooms with closets, doing the closets first makes it much much easier, allowing you to maneuver your sheets through the open studs with the larger pieces as well as not needing a light to do the closet after. Good luck and Gods speed! Bless you and yours!

Lastly lol Heath please don’t interpret my words as criticism, I only hope and pray for the best for you, Cedar, the kids, and Ruger. I am only offering hopefully helpful advice, I’m no master carpenter nor a drywall and mud expert, lol I grew up in a close knit semi-large family of every different but relative trades. Carpenters, electricians, masons, mechanics, heat and A/c, and of course two of greatest plumbers in the area. I’ve work alongside them all and learned an unfathomable amount of knowledge from them, I, whenever possible, love being able to pass on tips and tricks I’ve learned from my family. I however chose to blaze my own path and served our country in the Army. That chapter is closed but hasn’t finished, if that makes sense? As I’ve expressed before, I’m opening a new chapter in my life, we are preparing to shift to more property and more self sustaining lifestyle. Thank you for sharing your story and it’s progress with us. Realize it or not, you’re inspiring! Keep up the great work! V/r Joe

Looking good, brother. Keep up the good work! In our old farmhouse, I used 12' sheets of 5/8 drywall (due to stud spacing) for the walls and ceilings as it allowed me to avoid all but a couple butt joints. Talk about a lift being a must! Those things were a hand full even with the lift!

Hi Heath, I hope your getting out walking around the property and just observing. Watching how the snow melts and the water flows. How can you slow the water, spread the water, and sink the water into the earth. How can you use swales to fill ponds. How can you manage the water to keep the orchard watered all summer. Looking forward to see these developments this summer. Cheers, Bill

Just A tip I got from my friend when doing drywall, never put small pieces on the floor, full sheet up and full sheet on the floor and small in the center save your back when mudding and you could risk cracking a joint when installing baseboard molding. But Good Job I love watching your videos.

good to see the dry wall go up. My old house has ceilings similar to yours - greater than 8 feet high. The drywall contractor saw that I had hung the board leaving a small narrow strip at the bottom. He said he'd prefer to have the narrow strip at mid-wall height so he could tape and mud both edges of the strip at the same time. It might be more difficult to hide the strip at that height due to the lack of taper on one edge of the strip. Where I had it located, it didn't matter because the base board is 8 inches high.

I'm no pro at drywalling, but I learned one key to mud and tape is: mud (joint compound) and tape, dry and sand; mud again with a wider knife, dry and sand; mud again with a wider knife (12") and sand. By that time the large knife get's used, you are blending in the joints with the smooth drywall so everything looks like a flat wall. I suppose one could get away with two of the three processes. I watched houseimprovements youtube channel do it, and I liked his approach.
