@LieuFang
@LieuFang 4 жыл бұрын
Fun Fact: if the Canadiens had done what Pierre McGuire demanded and taken Brulé, Kopitar would have been taken at 6 by Columbus. Their scouts had Kopitar down but MacLean said that when Brulé fell to them he couldn't pass on the opportunity. What disgruntled scouts leaked to the media however, was that MacLean didn't trust his staff and pulled rank. That it was a repeat of taking Zherdev over Vanek. So this is your hockey trivia reminder that if it weren't for Doug MacLean, Columbus would have had a top line of Nash-Kopitar-Vanek. Weird, I wonder how many Columbus fans I just depressed.

Yes, BR's low ranking is the main issue I have with this list. Some cognitive bias in going on here since he was drafted 2nd, he is now being underrated. If he was drafted 62nd, he'd probably be much higher on this re-draft list.

Not to defend McGuire, though I do seem to do that more often than not, but if you look beyond the meme, you'll remember that his problem with taking Price at #5 was that the Canadiens had a young Jose Theodore just starting his career. I think kopitar reallly deserves to be 2nd. Even with Stanley cups he’s still underrated. He has more points than Bergeron while playing less games, and he’s ALMOST as good a Bergeron defensively (notice I didn’t say better). He plays on power play and PK. He plays some of the most minutes in the whole league as a forward. AND he has never played with elite wingers in his entire career but he still carries the team on his back. Even when LA is rebuilding Kopitar is still able to put almost a point per game with a old a declining Dustin brown and bottom 6 forward on his wing

When I was 11, my dad and I went to the Sens fanfest to open the 05/06 season. Like many fanfests they had a bunch of used gear as well as name bars for sale. For context 2005 was one of the first drafts that I remember the teams butting the name of the player they had drafted on the jersey. When I went to the name bar bin, the first name at the top was a red KOPITAR that I’m guessing they would have used had they picked him. To this day I don’t know why I didn’t buy it and I still can’t believe that they left him on the board.

Have you ever thought of doing a re-draft called ''What could've been'' for each team (or at least a couple of teams that you want). Basically you take a player drafted after the picks that let's say the Bruins pick. And make a team from there. Basically, what if the Bruins (and any other team) would pick Mathew Barzal, Brock Boeser and Thomas Chabot as their 13-14-15 picks in 2015. Then you make a lineup from those picks. You can go back as far as you want, but let's say you go back 10 years and try to make the best picks available for you team. You can make picks only in the 1rst round of you can go deeper if you wish if a diamond is found further back and your team has a pick available. I'm a Leafs fan but you can do any team you want.

Fun list. We agreed on a lot of picks, only did my top 10 though; Crosby, Kopitar, Rask, Price, Letang, Statsny, Quick, Vlasic, Hörnqvist, Oshie. Maybe Bishop should have been in there, but didnt because of how late into his career he started having an impact on the NHL. didnt quite know where to put him. Picked Stastny as the third forward because of being a center and having 3 70 point seasons in his first 4 years. He could have had like 10 60+ point seasons if it werent for injuries, and he has really solid numbers in the playoffs.

Not much of a fan. Real die hard fans never give up on their team, need I remind you that Raycroft in the season when he won the calder he had a 29-18-9 record with a 2.05 GAA and a .926 Save Percentage. He was 3rd in Save Percentage with a minimum of 40 games played and 6th in GAA. In the playoffs he was 6th in Save Percentage minimum 7 games played and 8th in GAA. So rightly so (at the time) the Leafs decided that it would be in their best interest to trade for the calder winning goaltender.

How do you draft Ovi ahead of Crosby in any scenario? Even despite missing over 2 seasons worth of games to injury, he's still virtually equal in career points with Ovi (168 less games played for Crosby compared to Ovi). Sure Ovi can hit and score goals, but Crosby is WAY better at every other facet of the game.... I don't see how you justify ever drafting Ovi over Sid.

I would choose Malkin but I am biased. **edit going back to that I always wonder if the Pens or Caps win more/less cups if those picks were swapped I mean its impossible to know, but Crosby and Ovie could of been the best duo for their entire careers and the Caps having a 1-2 punch at center with Malkin and Backstrom would of been pretty dominant as well, but it is impossible to know if either of those would of lead to more Cups.

Shannon, are you considering their salary demands and cap-hit in your evaluations? It's kind of one of those nature vs. nurture type of things, but I always assume that a player goes somewhere else, he has other people influencing them, maybe they end up being more realistic about what they ask for. Also, if Abdelkader doesn't get his name on the cup, he doesn't become the worst contract in hockey today.

One thing i don't understand is that how did Hornqvist get picked in the 7th round at #230? There were 30 teams in the league then, so how was the last pick in the draft 230th? Somebody pls explain

steal was Rask? I doubt the Leaf fans will be in agreement there Shannon :P, although its not like they traded another 1st rounder but became a HOFer... oh wait hi Scott Niedermayer, ever met Tom Kurvers? no? well its because of him you're a Devil legend :)

Imagine if the Ducks picked Kopitar in '05! Getzlaf, Perry, and Kopitar making up their spine at center!

if the canes had price , that tandem of price and ward would of been the best goalie core for many many years . definitely would of helped big time in 2009 for the canes against the penguins . and maybe they would of not missed the playoffs so much and that drought of 9 years would of been way less ?
