Would 100% recommend the Kia Picanto over the MG. Even compared to other small cars, the Picanto is just so good. One of the best cars I've been in.
@lukeclifton439212 күн бұрын
I haven’t been in a picanto, but I love its design and form-factor. I really wish Kia would place some emphasis on making it a “Hot Hatch”. I rented one of these when I went back to Darwin and I can tell you I will always pay more for a different car. I agree 100% with the seats, Very comfortable but seating position was too high. The AC was quite poor in the NT. The Transmission wanted to be in the highest possible gear all the time which made it gutless but was solved by shifting it through the gears manually which made it much better to drive and somewhat impressive for something lacking power. Low beams seemed ok for me but High's were gross. Steering was lifless and disconnected but I still feel that it handled well when pushed through a roundabout. The fuel usage per 100kms was more then my 2011 BMW X5 40d which is a 3L 6cyl twin turbo. worst of all was the amount it aquaplaned in the wet which I don't remember my 1985 Ford meteor doing near as often driving from Darwin to Katherine. I actually felt so unsafe in the car because it was just so unstable.
@bocc751712 күн бұрын
I drive one of these for work. It's awful. Every part of the car is at least a little badly designed. The car I drive has truly unacceptable levels of road noise in the cabin, it almost sounds like there's a hole in the floor behind my seat. Also, the car doesn't support Bluetooth audio, only calls. So Android users (like myself) can just get stuffed I guess. I suppose the only sort of person who would buy this sort of car would be the sort of person who would only have an iPhone.

I bought a mg zst essence top spec for 33990 in Feb 2023, sold it in 2024 September for 24k. It took 95 fuel, had no off button for the radio. The sun roof cover is paper thin so the heat was unbearable. The pho leather seats were boiling hot on a average day. The screen would randomly turn off and on while driving. The engine had a 1.3 turbo but had 2 to 3 seconds of turbo lag. Just shit me so I decided to sell it. Massive depreciation. It only had 7000km. I know I bought it during the massive supply short of cars in 2023 where rav4 was a 3 year wait. At that point you couldn't find any car that wasn't a 6 month wait and I just needed a car for the Mrs. Plus there is a new mg zs hybrid coming in a month. So I'm sure they will depreciate alot more. So I'm glad I got rid of it. They just do not hold any value!

You guys are the greatest! ❤️ I LOVE the pointing stick Adam and by the way -very cool shoes there as well - I'm jealous! 😅 I can't help but love the designs of ALL the MG models - it's a guilty pleasure - what can I say! It is kind of like having to admit to mates that I watch some rubbish on TV like the bachelor or something like that - it feels the same to say I like how the MG's look! A few points: 1. The carpets and factory floor-mats on these are horrendous, but who cares - it's a cheap car. Easily fixed with decent aftermarket floor mats. 2. SAIC Motors also own the LDV Brand which is famous for premature rusting panels on their T-60 Utes and probably their LDV Vans and SUVS also I would guess - so it should not come as a surprise that MG panels in some cases have premature rusting also. 3. While the MG3 dare not "loosen the sandal straps of a Toyota Yaris, Mazda 2 or class-leading Honda Jazz to steal an old line there...I don't think that MG are trying to compete ditectly against them in a strange way... but to simply be the cheap and cheerful sub-20K car that so many people still buy because of the price and not a whole lot more... let's hope it at least treats them OK, for the most part...hopefully. 😅 I think I'd actually still buy an MG3, maybe. They are just kind of funky and cool! On a similar note... I'd even buy the newer Mitsubishi Mirages out there... yes, I said it... and for this reason... that the newer Mirage is so awful...in every way...that I actually love it! (It makes me actually laugh out loud when I get the chance to drive one). They are so bad, that they're good! ❤️

I rented a manual one of these in the UK and had it for a few weeks. It really reminded me of an early 90s car in both good and bad ways. I thought it was actually pretty decent to drive considering it is a very cheap and basic car. The downsides were that it is really noisy at speed. It feels very cheap and there are all sorts of irritating quality glitches. For example in the car I had the infotainment screen was really bright at night and you couldn't dim it enough. This sounds trivial but it rapidly becomes extremely irritating. The main thing is why buy a car like this at all when you could buy a much better car secondhand? It reminds me of all the Eastern Bloc cars sold in the UK in the 80s such as Ladas, FSOs, Yugos etc. I could never understand why people would bother. I guess some people are desperate to buy a brand new car even if it is a bit crap.

And finally the low beams - they are outright dangerous. U WILL NOT see anything more than a couple of meters in front of the car. The first time u experience it I guarantee you’ll think the lights are broken. I have no idea who would want to buy one these other than a little old granny that knows nothing about cars and just needs a set of wheels to go to the local RSL once a week- even then there are better options

I was driving a 2012 Kia Rio GDi (not mine) for many years until I killed the engine. Rented an MG3 as a midway car. It's fitment didn't seem that bad at all, but the materials used felt cheap and nasty. The Rios door seals had a quality issue where they started to go gummy after many years (10+) in the sun. The MG started this as well , but it was less than a year old. Due to my personal budget I could only afford an old 2001 Ford Laser (The one that was built alongside the Mazda 323 in Japan) as a replacement vehicle. It is untinted and the interior is badly sun faded, but it's door seals and plastics are perfectly fine. I couldn't imagine what an MG3 interior would be like without tinting in a few years in the Aussie sun.

Bought one just after COVID when used car prices were way too high and I needed a car to teach the kids to drive in. I was expecting it to be pretty poor, but have actually been quite satisfied with it. From low expectations, it's been a little better to a lot better on most aspects, it's not terrible, it does the job it was bought for without fuss. No warranty claims have been necessary. Now teenage son uses it as a daily driver to work and it's safe enough and econmical for him to run. Ownership tips: 1) Only run it on Premium 95 fuel or better. The dealership said 'yeah it'll be fine on standard', it is not, it hates it, rough idle, poor economy and no power at low RPM. Probably if you have had a hire car it's got standard in it and will be awful. 2) Paint isn't the highest quality and needs regular washing and a polish every 6 months to keep it looking good (white car). 3) For wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay, get a 'Ottocast 2 in 1 Android Auto/CarPlay Wireless Adapter U2-X Pro'. Tried others that didn't work, this does 4) To improve the headlights out of sight (into sight?) I upgraded to a pair of Auxbeam LED 9005, the colour temperature is much better too and matches the running lights 5) Some owners may never discover the 'Sport' mode on the transmission shifter that holds lower gears and keeps the engine spinning at higher RPM for a sportier driving feel. It can also be manually shifted from there to wring to the most out of it. It won't be a sport car, but will be a lot more satisfying if you want it to hussle along.

There is a sport mode that holds gears even MORE?! The thing in the video only has 4 gears auto! I've only driven a newer one as a rental for a few days but they seem to have gone the other way now - it's gotta be at least 7 or 8 gears now possibly 10! No joke, the amount of shifts just to get up to 50km/hr is insane.. i swear it shifts 3 times before 30km then another 2 to get to 50-60. If you don't enjoy driving it might be tolerable, the girl i was with thought it was okay, but i could not stand driving the thing for that alone.. and i have a barina as a daily drive.

We have 3 mg3 with over km 100,000 and out of the 5 there is only one that has a slite oil mist coming from the power steer oil reservoir witch it from the cap. My old work has MG HS for a fleet of company cars for city courier work. The AC fan blower would fail by 70,000km or 6 months. Making a grinding noise. Apple car play… the AC Control were on the screen and the CarPlay at the same time. Many many 12v batteries were installed, never got more than 20,000km or 2 months from a battery. It’s like the engine heat cooked them. Seats UNCOMFORTABLE. Inside edge of the rear tyres wore out… due to weight of packages in the boot. Did like, press release press and hold open button … all windows would open(sunroof tooo). press release press and hold lock button … all windows would close.

Don't have a car currently so have just been renting when needed - which ends up being these usually. For City Driving, and even shorter highway trips, it has been completely fine. If you can get over the ego trap of what you're driving, I have no issue with it. This is coming from a JDM Fanboy.. It's nothing special, in any realm, but it does the job. Would I buy one? No, but I would genuinely consider other MG Models for an A-B car on a budget. I should add, I've recently driven one of the NEW MG3's and they are night and day to these ones.

Drove an MG3 for almost a whole year and yeah it was definitely "a" car. Did what it had to and honestly wasn't that much of a let down as long as you adjust your expectations. Mates and I always joked that it had "race" suspension given how stiff it was but as long as you mind the bumps and turns it really wasn't that bad. Definitely got what you paid for with that car. But that also means you're technically not getting "less" than what you paid for. One thing I did notice was that MG3 rego plates seem to be a target for thieves probably given how they're everywhere so I guess it's an easy group to blend into if you're the shady sort. Had mine stolen amongst a bunch of other cars lol.

These are the definition of you get what you pay for. If you desperately wanted a new car on a tight budget then this was the only choice. They are just meant to be driven in the suburbs doing the school run and going to the shops. Not a long distance driving. Anything over 80 strains the motor badly and they become flighty.

I recently had the displeasure of driving an MG3 as a 'courtesy' car. I was instantly impelled like never before to record my views on this experience. It is technically a car; but it certainly stretches this definition. It is incredible to think that in this modern day an engine could produce so little movement out of so much noise The engine sounds like it was cast out of aluminum cans and there is exactly zero attenuation between the whiny little engine and the cabin. Further down the line there is little relief, I feel sorry for what I believe is a small distressed cow trapped inside the tailpipe, desperate to escape. Ride quality can only be described as being forcefully ejected out of a nightclub by 2 bouncers. I haven't looked at what is connecting the knuckle to the strut towers but I would expect to find a steel rod with a couple of sponges wedged in place. Drive by wire has been taken quite literally with the underpaid elves inside desperately trying to relay instructions between the right pedal and the front wheels by what I can only assume is Morse code. The interior is spacious however, the unfortunate result of this is the $2 budget assigned to the interior has been spread as thin as possible with the stupor inducing design lovingly filled with crudely crafted injection molded plastic. Overall I am genuinely impressed with how bad this vehicle is. and my deepest condolences for anyone who spent their money on this 'car'
