We’ve all got to be very careful with Forums. YES these people have legitimate concerns but people who’ve experienced issues will make a loud noise. We expect very little to go wrong with premium and mid range modern cars. So if something does go wrong, we’re dissatisfied/ angry. The vast majority of people probably don’t have issues and they don’t contribute to forums saying how happy they are. So we’re only getting one side of the story. My 2018 D5 Inscription with air suspension would be in the top 3 cars I’ve ever owned and NOTHING has gone wrong with it since new. 80,000 km and I’m very happy. I considered. BMW X3 and MB GLC. So glad I bought the Volvo.

I'm still trying to find out the extent of the "Steering vibration" complaints. Are they just really picky? Or is it a legitimate safety issue that you'll crash it in the winter? Who knows! Otherwise that's basically the only legitimate complaint I hear about with XC40 and C40s!

With the XC40 electric and C40 electric the batteries are actually serviceable and recyclable. The system is a modular set up so when your battery start to deteriorate after 10 years Volvo can actually detect what cells are dying and pull them out from the car and replace them with new ones (much easier then a full big battery replacement) and then the cell that gets taken out is actually recycled as well, just a fun fact :)

Going on 4 years / 40k miles with my T5 AWD R-Design. Had it since new. Did all scheduled maintenance. Overall has been an excellent experience. Fun car to drive, good looking, comfortable and reliable. Only real issue is drivers side heated seat failed but was replaced under warranty. Had to get new tires around 35k miles but I insisted the dealer rotate them when I noticed uneven wear at around 10k even though they said it didn't need it which helped extend the their life. Front brake pads are wearing down and need to be replaced. Due for 4 year maintenance soon which the dealer is quoting me $800 to do. I will be doing certain maintenance items myself and going to an independent shop from here on since they quoted me half that price.

I bought a brand new XC40 in October last year. Can't speak to long-term reliability or anything like yet, but I'll say that I love the experience so far. On the Google infotainment - I personally think it's pretty good, maybe most people with issues in the functionality department are comparing it to other current systems? I came from a 2014 FG MKII Falcon, so any manner of modern infotainment in a car is great to me haha. That said, I've found it to be user-friendly. No real complaints on it, but I suppose not everyone will have the same experience. Enjoyed the video as usual! Keep up the great work.

I've been a close follower of your amazing video. Thank you for reviewing the XC40. 22 T5 owner here, your comments are spot on. Unrefined start stop, autonomous emergency braking triggers unnecessarily, and I have to replace my brake pads and rotors when it hits 22,000kms. I was really surprised. It is cheaper to replace them (OEM parts) in a workshop compared to Volvo dealership. Our fuel consumption is 10.5km/100km, mostly suburban driving. Not the best imo. Again, thank you for highlighting the child booster seat does not fit, it will help us to pick the right one in the coming months. Other than the above, its still a great car to daily. The build is solid and a very quiet cabin. Keep up the great work.

My 2019 XC40 T5 R-design has 120,000kms on the clock and I have never had a single fault. Powerful when you want it to be but I choose economy 99% of the time and no complaints there. Previously had an X1 M-Sport which I loved but always felt cramped when driving it.
@kalfas3718
@kalfas3718 3 ай бұрын
So I have owned T5 Rdesign from 2019 for 3 years now, I have driven some 40k km. So far only 2 issues. One day some sensor went crazy and the A/C turned the car into an oven. The whole A/C unit was replaced under warranty. Then one day the ball joint slipped off the wheel and the car wouldn't have traction. That one was after warranty and cost me $1000. Allegedly a rare case probably from manufacturing. I didn't see anything of that sort complained about online. Those were my issues, I don't experience the issues mentioned in the video. The ride feels smooth. The only pity about the car is that it is no longer AWD. Sure, it is needed perhpast twice a year but then it is missed dearly. anyway overall a good, mid (perfect) sized car for a family of four with good fuel economy. The electric range is perfect for shorter in town comutes. I would recommed it but objetively it isn't unicorn, but those don't exist anyway :)

Quick comment on the EVs. The XC40 Recharge and C40 have liquid cooled batteries unlike older EVs, and as long as the charging limit is set, e.g. to 80%, the battery doesn't really depreciate by time, but by kms driven. While its too early to say how bad it'll be, but if Teslas depreciation is comparable, one can expect it to depreciate fairly quickly at first ~10% in the first 100000km, then slowly, a further ~2-5% the next 100000km. Hence i wouldn't expect these to have a fraction of their range even at 20 years old. Also, here in Norway (special situation i know), the EV versions seem to keep their value better than the ICs.

Thanks for making this video after my IG request a few months ago! My partner and I tested a few used models since then and found the T5 R-Design the was a much more enjoyable and premium feeling driving experience than the T4 or B4 engines. I'll probably steer clear of this one given the long term cost of ownership and lack of warranty on a used version unfortunately. Which is a shame as I still think they're one of the best looking and most practical SUV's on the road. Running the numbers, it works out better to buy a brand new Tesla Model Y on a novated lease than a used XC40 and even a used Rav4 or even an used NX hybrid over 5 years. Unpopular decision I know. Here in the UK, 2020 saw the introduction of the B4, Petrol-Mild Hybrid. I had one for three years. An Inscription Pro. Glacier Silver with Red Oxide interior. It was absolutely beautiful. My only two gripes were that the knee bolster was so thin it was uncomfortable to sit on for any length of time and the mild hybrid system lost more power and economy than it saved. I drove a T4 for a while and it was more economical. Edit: The indicator issue. I’d forgot but mine did suffer from it. I nearly broke the stalk many times because there the ‘click’ sound wasn’t there so I thought I wasn’t indicating. Took it back 3 or 4 times but guess what? ……..Yep, Volvo could never hear the issue. 🙄 (Yeah, right)

I've owned several generations of Volvos (P80, P1, P2, and P3) and by car the S90 (on the SPA platform) was the best. It's well designed for maintenance, parts weren't overly expensive if you source from an OE supplier rather than genuine, and it's just a great car to drive. Looked to be a fairly reliable car with first impressions but with the question of long term reliability and maintenance costs being on the cards it definitely feels like one to avoid. Was honestly suprised that a booster seat can't be legally fitted in one especially since some parents with younger kids might buy one. I have a sneeking suspicion Hullsy's not a fan of working on these cars Good work as always guys and look forward to Sunday's video as per usual 👍.

What I am understanding is that the Volvo, like the BMW isn't for the long term buyer. A lease vehicle at best.

I bought a used one in Oct 2023 (40k kms on the clock 2.5 years old) from a genuine Volvo dealership and had no problems whatsoever . I my driving career I drove many lease cars, also pruim brands but this one is the best to drive by far. No Beamer or Audi could match it. Also not in reliability.

Do not buy this car! Not only are the dealerships scam artists (been through two before purchasing. My bad, after dealer #1 attempt at "bait and switch", should've went to BMW.) At 50 miles- oil leak. Oil housing cracked. At 100 mi- intermittent rattle in door. (Sounds like car was dropped off car carrier!)At 8k mi- head rests make a quick noise as if being lowered, though nothing is touched. Seat heating goes on whenever. Of course, nothing can be fixed unless these intermittent things happen in front of a mechanic. LOUD ENGINE, like it is struggling. This is nothing more than an overpriced lawn ornament. Unfortunately, spent my life savings on it due to being the safest car on the road for the price. 4 years old with 10,500 miles. Oh, and under the front plate there was a deep gauge, probable when "button"/screws were installed. Tool slipped. My state doesn't need front plates. It was "shipped in" from MD. Dealer wouldn't fix it... until the oil leak. I guess to calm me down. The paint didn't match. (We're at less than 100 mi at this point) Oh, and FINALLY got an owners manual at that time too. NOT when I repeatedly begged for one. I wanted to sell it immediately... problem.... dealership took their sweet time getting my title. THREE MONTHS. It sat in a pile on a desk. Neighbor got a new car out of state and had his title in 2 weeks. My dealership said "slow mail", finally admitting that it sat in a pile.... even though I call every 2-3 weeks begging for it. THIS COMPANY IS HORRIFIC and UNSCRUPULOUS to deal with. BUYER BEWARE. Yes, I still have the car. The depreciation to sell it and buy new was out of my price range. I used my life savings for this OVERPRICED LAWN ORNAMENT.
