We’ve all got to be very careful with Forums. YES these people have legitimate concerns but people who’ve experienced issues will make a loud noise. We expect very little to go wrong with premium and mid range modern cars. So if something does go wrong, we’re dissatisfied/ angry. The vast majority of people probably don’t have issues and they don’t contribute to forums saying how happy they are. So we’re only getting one side of the story. My 2018 D5 Inscription with air suspension would be in the top 3 cars I’ve ever owned and NOTHING has gone wrong with it since new. 80,000 km and I’m very happy. I considered. BMW X3 and MB GLC. So glad I bought the Volvo.

With the XC40 electric and C40 electric the batteries are actually serviceable and recyclable. The system is a modular set up so when your battery start to deteriorate after 10 years Volvo can actually detect what cells are dying and pull them out from the car and replace them with new ones (much easier then a full big battery replacement) and then the cell that gets taken out is actually recycled as well, just a fun fact :)

I bought a brand new XC40 in October last year. Can't speak to long-term reliability or anything like yet, but I'll say that I love the experience so far. On the Google infotainment - I personally think it's pretty good, maybe most people with issues in the functionality department are comparing it to other current systems? I came from a 2014 FG MKII Falcon, so any manner of modern infotainment in a car is great to me haha. That said, I've found it to be user-friendly. No real complaints on it, but I suppose not everyone will have the same experience. Enjoyed the video as usual! Keep up the great work.

Quick comment on the EVs. The XC40 Recharge and C40 have liquid cooled batteries unlike older EVs, and as long as the charging limit is set, e.g. to 80%, the battery doesn't really depreciate by time, but by kms driven. While its too early to say how bad it'll be, but if Teslas depreciation is comparable, one can expect it to depreciate fairly quickly at first ~10% in the first 100000km, then slowly, a further ~2-5% the next 100000km. Hence i wouldn't expect these to have a fraction of their range even at 20 years old. Also, here in Norway (special situation i know), the EV versions seem to keep their value better than the ICs.

Thanks for making this video after my IG request a few months ago! My partner and I tested a few used models since then and found the T5 R-Design the was a much more enjoyable and premium feeling driving experience than the T4 or B4 engines. I'll probably steer clear of this one given the long term cost of ownership and lack of warranty on a used version unfortunately. Which is a shame as I still think they're one of the best looking and most practical SUV's on the road. Running the numbers, it works out better to buy a brand new Tesla Model Y on a novated lease than a used XC40 and even a used Rav4 or even an used NX hybrid over 5 years. Unpopular decision I know. Love the channel and the pod, keep up the great work!

As a long time Volvo owner, to me the XC40 was the very last of the half decent Volvos. The best were the P2 S60/V70 cars that ended in 2007. I have one of these and won’t get rid. They are much better engineered than newer cars. The new stuff today like the EC40 is Geely garbage and a Chinese con - only Volvo part of it is the badge. My friend has an XC40 and it’s nicer than the equivalent Qasquai, and the least offenof the premium small SUV. My money would go a Mazda CX or Honda CRV. The engine note is awful. Great review as always dude.

I recently traded my 2017 S90 D4 with 240,000KM on it, only reason I traded was to get a smaller car - the thing was bulletproof. I've owned several generations of Volvos (P80, P1, P2, and P3) and by car the S90 (on the SPA platform) was the best. It's well designed for maintenance, parts weren't overly expensive if you source from an OE supplier rather than genuine, and it's just a great car to drive. These characteristics would be shared with all SPA platform Volvos, however not applicable to this XC40/C40 as it's on the CMA (Chinese designed) platform.

I think Volvo will be around a few years longer. Question is, will the parts to keep them in the road be around in 10 years time?

I've been a close follower of your amazing video. Thank you for reviewing the XC40. 22 T5 owner here, your comments are spot on. Unrefined start stop, autonomous emergency braking triggers unnecessarily, and I have to replace my brake pads and rotors when it hits 22,000kms. I was really surprised. It is cheaper to replace them (OEM parts) in a workshop compared to Volvo dealership. Our fuel consumption is 10.5km/100km, mostly suburban driving. Not the best imo. Again, thank you for highlighting the child booster seat does not fit, it will help us to pick the right one in the coming months. Other than the above, its still a great car to daily. The build is solid and a very quiet cabin. Keep up the great work.

@@Azureecosse Volvo originally being a Swedish brand, metal is popular in Sweden. The music over the safety features was a nod to this. Not the actual sheet metal that is used in construction.

Always liked Volvo for being quirky and loved the neighbors xc60 T6….until the supercharged/turbo charger setup started giving grief. Now the dealer that sold it to him advising him how fantastic they are (was)…suddenly he dosent want a bar of it

Try a BMW motorcycle. It’s much worse when the dealers actually have to do warranty things. Like listen.

Great info, thanks! I bought a new 2024 Volvo XC40, mostly for safety purposes, as my 2003 Honda Civic had finally reached its end. I only drive 3,000 miles a year, so it's good to know what to expect from the Volvo over the years!

I own 2022 Volvo XC60 B5 Momentum, the only and most annoying thing is the Google infotainment system. Sometimes the sound system doesn't work (including indicator sound) and climate control pops up and down when reversing due to 360 camera. Can't they make it Simple as Hyundai and Kia infotainment system?

My 2019 XC40 T5 R-design has 120,000kms on the clock and I have never had a single fault. Powerful when you want it to be but I choose economy 99% of the time and no complaints there. Previously had an X1 M-Sport which I loved but always felt cramped when driving it.

Different category to the XC-40, the XC-40 is in the same category as the Lexus UX and Mazda CX-30. The NX and the CX-5 are in the midsize segment, so the XC-60 would be the main target for those.

I cross shopped a CX-5 Akera against an XC40 of the same year. After 4 years they were the same price but the depreciation on the Volvo was insane and the Mazda was about half the price for a major service. A lot of XC40s get dumped before their 75,000 kms service. Both are ok to work on. If I had to own one and work on it, CX-5 every time. The Volvo is the one you want to drive but it takes nearly double the time and effort to keep on the road. I haven’t found an XC40 over 75,000 kms that had a major service and didn’t have the sunroof channels rotted out

@@theairstig9164 I’d absolutely go for a CX-5 even over an XC-60 which is in the same size segment, disregarding price. I own a ‘22 CX-5 Akera with the 2.5T and it is an absolute joy to drive. The Mazda absolutely punches well above its weight.

@@rowdus6186 I haven’t and I don’t plan to unless it is a loan/hire, in fact an XC-60 is very low down on my list. I’m very satisfied with my CX-5 and I stand by what I say in that it punches well above its weight.
