Heyo, I hope you enjoy this quick video on how to squeegee your table tops to help reduce clay dust in your studio! Cleaning table tops daily is one of the most effective ways to reduce excess clay dust in your studio. Simply sponging will not do the trick. Once the table dries, the clay dust becomes visible and your table is just as dusty as before you sponged. Check out how to game the system with a squeegee!
Teacher Info:
I have the last period of the day take 5 extra minutes to squeegee their table tops at the end of class. You can even play a game where whoevers table/floor is the dirtiest is in charge of cleaning the sinks and wedging tables in the next class. ;) I find that for some kids, taking joy and honor in doing a good job cleaning isn’t quite enough incentive, LOL.

Microfiber cloths are my dust reducing superpower, whispered to me by my teacher Heather at my local community clay studio. Other cloths leave a thin layer of clay residue that only becomes apparent once the surface dries. Squeegee method looks great and also looks like it might stop that.

Micro fiber works like a charm! And I have used them to great success. But they also get dusty when used a lot and create dust clouds. They also have to be regularly washed. Not a big deal if you have a home studio or you only need to use them for yourself. But with the squeegees I never have to take a dozen or more dusty cloths home to wash and then have to remember to bring back the next day. If you’re a teacher especially I recommend squeegees 😎. It’s just one less responsibility and thing you’ll have to remember.
