Swelling can really limit motion after a knee replacement. This video is really helpful to keep swelling from getting in the way of exercises and day to day life!

Such great advice. I have a 4cm difference in my TKR knee as compared to nonsurgical knee and I'm 6 months out. It doesn't seem normal to me. The swelling really inhibits my ROM. Thank you for the advice.

Tony, your descriptions of the symptoms associated with post knee replacement is so spot on and reassuring it really gives me guidance, peace of mind and encouragement as over here in the uk our health system although wonderful is under pressure and follow up support is lacking. Many thanks and regards Fred.

Tony, you have been a God sent. So much has changed since I had my 1st knee replacements (2002). I had it left replaced with extensive work including n building up bones. The swelling has been awful. I decided to figure something out, so I found your video. I tried it and it was great. For elevation I figure that on our as adjustable bed if I raised the bead it was more than 45 degree. My swelling has gone substantially!!!!! I think I might survive this surgery. in about 6 months I will have the other one replaced. Thank you once again for all your videos, they have helped so much!!!!

Wow! So helpful. Full of pratical skill and common sense. Loved the advice at the end about why we get TKRs in the first place - to do things with them!

I am having surgery in a few months and was told to wear Ted Hose after the surgery. As far as I know, Ted Hose do not cover the knee. Your demonstration explains why covering the knee is necessary and doing it with a wrap rather than an elastic stocking is far more sensible - the hose are challenging to get on and off. The other thing I learned is "discomfort not pain." I have friends who are in agony after physical therapy and have had to go back on oxycontin to deal with the pain. I have always felt that the "no pain, no gain" mantra was wrong. I am saving your videos as a reminder of the things to do for a speedy recovery - without pain! Thank you so much for your informative videos.

I have had my right total knee replaced thank you for the very valuable advice and information given through youtube videos. I followed all your recommendations they reassured me and boost my confidence and motivation. Then last month I had my left knee total replacement surgery again your practical advice helped me without any input from the local physical therapist. You are doing great work and a brilliant job. Hi Tony. I recently had an MPFL reconstruction with lateral release and your videos have been so helpful! My surgey was almost 3 weeks ago and I’m still only getting about 30 degrees of flexion. When I try to bend I feel like there is a band around the bottom of my knee below the patella that is stopping me. I also have hard lumps right in that area where the arthroscopy was done on both sides that I believe may be scar tissue. Do you have any recommendations for how to work that area? I keep trying heel slides but I feel like they’re not helping at all because I can only slide a few inches. Hopefully you see this, and thanks for all you do!

I have an update. I'll make 3 month post op coming 3/16. My surgeon was disappointed with my bend at 83° and my extension had a big gap. He is considering MUA. He has given me 1 week. Can you suggest what I should be doing to help this along? I continue to do my wall sliding sets of 4. 2 to 3 times a day. I continue to use hot compress before exercising and icing after with a wrap. Thank you in advance. Marcy

Great video, Anthony!! Did you say that 10-15 min for the compression is what you recommend? And while doing some active exercises, right? thanks!
@totaltherapysolutions5 жыл бұрын
It can be a bit of a sliding scale. "Moderate" compression in the clinic or at home prior to exercise seems to do great with 10 min. Lighter compression works well for longer durations without too much exercise as in episodes after you have been on your feet for a long time and the knee is a bit more swollen than usual. In the clinic, under the supervision of a therapist, you could try a high compression for 5-minutes to get a quick reduction in swelling and seriously change the sensory feedback coming from the knee.

I'm looking at TNR in May. I've been approved by my HMO for vein ablation. Is this a good idea before the TNR? It seems like it would help to improve the flow of fluid from the lower leg. Thanks for the very helpful videos!!

How do you work double knee replacement?
@totaltherapysolutions3 жыл бұрын
Treat the better knee as the "non-surgical knee" but still do everything bilaterally.
