Please note that I shot this video before the abduction of Elliot Eastman from Sibuco town in Zamboanga Del Norte on 17th October 2024. This is the first reported abduction for many years. Elliot had been living with his Muslim wife for five months in Sibuco town, located near Sirawai town where another westerner had been killed in 2002. I hope and pray that Elliot is freed safely. I am no longer travelling in the Red Zone. Thanks for Watching. Please Leave a Comment and I'll do my best to Respond. Excellent episode. By the way, being something of a foodie(my dad used to own a restaurant in San Francisco, back in the day), I love the parts of your segments when you try local eateries. I've always loved Filipino food(not quite up to Balot yet, though), and everything from the presentation to your exchanges with servers or owners is great. We live(and eat) vicariously through you. I graduated high school in 1977, and back then I was steeped in Soul, Funk, and Latin rock(really miss my platform shoes). Discovering the Ramones' debut album at our Tower Records was a defining moment for me. When I first heard Joey belting out "Blitzkrieg Bop" my mind was officially blown. After reading about CBGB in NYC I soaked up all the music I could find from Robert Gordon, Patti Smith, Iggy, and New York Dolls. The 70s Ska Revival era with bands like The Specials, English Beat, and The Selector, also had a BIGG (see what I did there?) influence on me back then. My best bud Charlie was a Reggae addict, while I was all about old-school Ska and Rock Steady when we'd scour the local vinyl stores. Then MTV hit cable and the wonder of the 80s knocked me out. Charlie and I caught some of the most amazing bands at local venues like The Savoy Tivoli's "Night Club" room in North Beach and The massive Market St. Cinema stage downtown. We saw The Divinyls(I stood literally 3 feet in front of Chrissy Amphlett as she sang. Man.), English Beat, Oingo Boingo, Stray Cats, Robert Gordon, Joan Jett, and more back then) At heart, I'm really still an 80s kid. Split Endz, Oingo Boingo, Stray Cats, Elvis Costello, Joan Jett, Missing Persons, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Madness, UB40, and yes, more Ramones. My younger brother Mark was more of a metal, rock, and techno-geek. He literally amassed thousands of CDs in his life (almost all mint too), and left them to his beloved daughter(RIP my brother). I liked bands like CCR and Journey, and find that I listen to ballads much more now. I still crank up the Ramones every now and then, too.

Alan Parsons Project became my favourate band after leaving Hamilton Ontario at 19 and moving to the Canadian Arctic (Yellowknife, NWT). Even after immigrating to the States and then retiring in the Philippines, I still enjoy their music. Saw them live a few times when I lived in Tampa Florida...

Philip travel advisory’s are not made up just for the sake of it plus any travel insurance is void in those areas You were lucky that nothing happened to you but venturing into those areas was pretty reckless imho The Philippines has enough islands without traveling down there Just because you traveled to that area before and nothing happened doesn’t mean it’s safe for foreigners

Gosh. I saw The Jam around 4/5 times. Once at Reading introducing songs from the not yet released All Mod Cons that is a classic album. They were amazing live. First 4 albums are great. Not so good after that. I'm happy you appreciate them now Tim.

In 1980 I think, I dated Hazel O’Conner just before her album and movie Breaking Glass was released. Okay, we really didn’t date, we just made out in a bar, okay, maybe she just blew me a kiss and said I was cute or get away from me, something like that. I took her LP back to the US and thought I was so cool that I had this great music that no one else had. Still enjoy it to this day.

Hi Philip, just googled this on today’s google, this is what it advises regarding current issues, FCDO advises against all travel to western and central Mindanao and the Sulu archipelago. FCDO also advises against all but essential travel to the remainder of Mindanao, except for: Camiguin Island. Dinagat Island, best regards to you, 👍…..

I listened to AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen and Ozzy as a teenager in the 80's. Likewise, I didn’t care much for Journey or the Bee Gees at the time, but l've developed an appreciation for them lately. But I still listen to AC/DC regularly, my favorite band, lol!

I have been to the so called red zone 3 times in the last 18 months and had no problem. It's utter BS that they call it this. I feel less safe in England than I do over there. So what does that make England? I would not advise anyone to come to England.
@bola567125 күн бұрын
It's a good thing you were safe while you were there. Howrver, people can be safe in danger zones. I was in war zones before and I was safe too. I wouldn't tell people to go to war zones because I didn't lose my life. People should be knowledgeable about unsafe places that way people that don't want to be at higher risk can make educated decisions. It also helps the country with more people avoiding it to fix those regions until it's safer and can finally bring in tourists

Contrasting your Comment with the vid Description involving a murder and now Today the kidnapping (just the day before this posing) is just dripping with irony..... better dripping irony than your bodily fluids. Be well and safe travels. I'm out. Peace and Love, B Goat
@samiam81143 ай бұрын
This video didn't age well. Probably safe enough where you were but Zamboanga is not. Just because he lived there, married a Muslim, and vlogged doesn't automaticallyl mean it's going to be safe for everyone else keeping a lower profile.
@Ego-Kills7 күн бұрын
You're trying avoid say Muslims in Mindanao but said "people from Middle East" They are not from Middle East, they are 100%Filipinos. Nothing wrong saying Muslims but to call the ME is very offensive. you got Muslim white English people in England. Do you call them people from the Middle East. FYI: Islam came to the Philippines before Roman Catholicism. I know you mean no harm but becarful.
