Welcome to our new Reef Tank Journal. We will be uploading multiple times per week. This aquarium journal will document any changes good or bad so we can monitor or look back at any changes we have made. This Journal as well as future journals will be unscripted, unedited, well as long as there are no long interruptions. This will be raw footage of myself in our fish room daily, every few days, or as needed to keep a future track of our reef tank aquarium. Whether its equipment changes, aquarium testing, dosing habits, lighting changes, anything and everything we want to document it all. We will still make scripted, put together videos once a week, this is something we have been needing and wanting to do, but got side tracked. These episodes may be longer and if so we hope you watch along and share your input as these will be scheduled so we can chat as the video is moving along with questions, comments, and concerns.

For what it's worth..I have 0 NO3 and average .06 PO I get the same recession and burning on my across anytime my Dkh begins to raise to the 8.5 range..as long as I keep Dkh around 8.1 my growth and polyp extension is great..took my a while to understand the ratio of low nutrients to low Dkh..also took my Calc rx offline for now..use kalk and a low dose all supplement and so far that has worked for over a year..Calc rx will go back when needed

This is for sure something to toss around. Because if its all stable for you now, and you noticed things go bad at 8.5 then you are on to something for your tank.

O and you are not having these issues from trace elements you don't have to worry about anything but salt dkh and temp keep those solid and everything will be happy.

Sean, I ran 2 part until demand reached over 300ml a day then I switched to a Calcium Reactor. 6x18 Geo. When that became insufficient (120ml a min) I added a Kalk reactor and now my calcium reactor runs at 60ml/min. Eventually I think the 6x18 will be too small for the 320 but I’ll use it until it is…

That is the route we are taking. Just preparing myself for the swings until 2 part is dailed in.

Sean, keeping in mind that I'm a newbie to hard corals, what my eye tells me is that your total surface area of hard corals to water volume is very low. What if you dosed nothing for one week then tested Ca and dKH. Would you really see a difference? That is a lot of water for such a small amount of hard corals. Point is, it would eliminate a variable.

That is a scary thought if you mean Calcium and alkalinity. Last night I tested and calcium is 380. low in my opinion. I think it would be a great test but I am thinking all of the coraline is sucking up my calcium and KH. I could try this being this new journal will be made daily, every two days or as needed through the week as I make changes. However I would need to get that calcium up to 420 before I even try it just in case coraline sucks it up I do not want thriving LPS to suffer or die.

@@lkapitan8232 not a bad idea though. And once I get it up, that's what she said, lol I will give it a shot for sure. I'm willing to try anything really, but for some reason I have a crazy feeling it is the reactor. Like I said with two part, I have never had issues like this before this build.

Sucks when all parameters are nailed and sps fail anyway. I think it would be nice to know par….. 250-350 is sweet spot IMO. Too bad u are not closer or u could borrow mine.

Truth. Thinking it's the reactor though to be honest. We will see with the two part.

Sounds like your nutrients is totally out of whack in relation to each other and your KH. Having a phosphate level of 0.1, your nitrates need to be way above 1-2. More like 10 to 15. And if your KH is nearly 10 your nitrate needs to be even higher with phosphate that high. I run my reef ultra low on Aquaforest. KH 7 to 7.3. Phosphate 0.02 to 0.04, nitrate 3 to 6ish sometime creeps higher. I feed heavy in heavy out, skimmer runs wet. And reef is run bare bottom. If it was me I would either lower the phosphates or bring your nitrates up. Hope this helps
@PittsburghReefJunkie

It does. Going to have to start dosing more potassium Nitrate. Because feeding doesn't seem to be pushing those nitrates up. Maybe let my kh come down as well.

@@PittsburghReefJunkie what do you have for nutrient control? Are you carbon dosing? Any phosphate remover? Refugium? Or do you dose bacterial products at all. Coz there's definitely something causing your nutrients to become out of whack if you take those readings at face value.
@PittsburghReefJunkie
@PittsburghReefJunkie 3 жыл бұрын
@@bobbyknox9258 no carbon dosing, or refugium. All that is on my system is my sump with fleece roller, bio reactor for my biological, protein skimmer, and seperate BRS two stage reactor that one unit has fleece and the other side has the purit i just talked about in episode 3. I have several videos where you can see the equipment I'm using in my fish room.

@@PittsburghReefJunkie yeah I've watched your vids out of sequence still not caught up. I'm subscribed to too many Reefing channels 😂. The bio reactor you mention is that using bio pellets? That's a carbon source if you are. That sounds like the culprit and they've kicked in and stripped all your nutrients out. They can be lethal if ran aggressively

I see that you have a bioplastic bashsea I would like to know how the slow or fast flow of water works I have one thanks
@PittsburghReefJunkie
@PittsburghReefJunkie 3 жыл бұрын
With my Bio reactor, the pump pushing the water to it is DC so i can control the flow to it fast or slow. If you do not have a dc pump you will need some sort of ball valve between the pump and the unit to regulate flow speed. If your asking what effects it has as far as flow into to make it work, the slower the flow the more contact time the bacteria would have to consume ammonia. Faster the less time. But the more water you push or slower you push you will need to regulate that gate valve installed on the reactor so it does not overflow the reactor through the air vents in the lid. Here a video we did. Maybe that will help also. kzbin.info/www/bejne/laKrq4eVpdyLh5o

Dude what are you doing with that calcium reactor!? I have more frags in my 60 gallon and i am not even toped out with kalk yet. The first thing i would do is stop the reactor and just go with kalk as far as it will go. Then I would get way more flow. I think flow is even more important than lighting especially with Acro's. Get some crazy flow i have surfed reefs in indo where these corals live the curent and waves that crash around these coral is enough to rag doll a 6 3 200 lb man they like a lot of flow and the fish like it to they are always swimming into in my opinion they seem way more active when the flow is Pumping. So when you think you have way to much cranking turn it up 2 more and you may be close lol. And i think you are good with ph but if you are bellow 8.3 try and get that to 8.3 to 8.4 for most of the day that with the flow is where i have seen the most growth you can measure it visually day by day each one grow. Keep it up and you will have that thing full in no time you will wish all you had to dose was kalk your reactor is going through so much effluent.

I kinda felt like the reactor was overkill. My main concearn with flow is more flow seems to be pissing off the LPS.
