The actress friend of Sapphire’s is Dorothy Dandridge’s mother, Ruby Dandridge. She was a prolific actress and was a regular on the “Beulah” TV show, with Academy Award winner, Hattie McDaniel.

Clean comedy - no profanity, porn references, or violence. Respect for marriage and women. Clever dialogue - always well dressed. Those who complain should look at themselves. This series was as good as I Love Lucy.

Tim Moore, and Ernestine Wade were the true stars of this show. Used to watch it every afternoon with my dad when he came in from work. He laughed as hard as I did. Those were good times.

Ernestine was a true talent and I wish the studios picked her up for more roles. Being it was the mid 50s, what racism in media did is deny us really good entertainment.
@bloqk16 Жыл бұрын
The scenes Ernestine was in were pure delights to view; especially when she would turn from being joyful to hostile on a dime, with that hostility directed at the Kingfish.

This is a syndicated episode, seen at various times on local stations in February 1955 [WCBS-TV in New York initially scheduled it as late as October 1955].

The last two or three original episodes were broadcast in 1955, two years after the NAACP demanded that the show be cancelled.
@fromthesidelines Жыл бұрын
What happend was, after the NAACP convinced Blatz Beer to end their sponsorship of the series in June 1953 (after two seasons), CBS pulled "THE AMOS 'N' ANDY SHOW" from their schedule. However, only 52 episodes had been produced up to that point. They wanted to add more episodes to make it profitable in syndication, so they produced 26 additional episodes for first-run syndication from 1953 through '55 [13 apiece, over two seasons; the last 13 were intended to be titled "THE ADVENTURES OF THE KINGFISH", as Tim Moore had become the de facto star of the series, but that idea was scrapped]. CBS Films then syndicated all 78 episodes over the next decade- and it was one of the most widely distributed off-network series......until new protests began in the early 1960's. Finally, in 1966, CBS decided to permanently withdraw "THE AMOS 'N' ANDY SHOW" from distribution- and it hasn't been seen on any local stations since.

The Kingfisher might have thought he had his wife Sapphire and his mother-in-law snookered with that bullshit story of him being in the 135th Battalion, until she got that telephone call from the local newspaper reporter. And he was wearing a uniform with a ton of decorations and medals. That would be seen as stolen valor today. Anyway, the roof caved in on the Kingfisher. Cute episode, leagues ahead of the black comedy films of today,

What a beautiful show and such talented actors. Sadly, because of the two-bit, race-baiting idiots at the NAACP, this show was forceably cancelled because they claimed it depicted blacks as crooks and lazy and didn't represent their real advancements and achievements. If they (NAACP) bothered watching the show, they would have seen that blacks in this show were often represented by professionals such as government employees, doctors, lawyers, judges, police, secretaries, business owners, military, and teachers and utility workers without a scrap of disrespect or racism. The only characters that were crooked/lazy was Kingfish, but ALL sitcoms had such characters! Archie Bunker was depicted as an ignorant bigot, yet he was the centerpiece of "All in the Family". Fred Sanford was cast as a wisecracking junk store owner in "Sanford & Son" but he was the centerpiece. Ralph Cramden of "The Honeymooners" was cast as a complete idiot, but he was the main character. Because of the NAACP, the fine actors of "Amos and Andy" lost their lucrative careers and futures in acting and stage and were never able to regain it - many dying as unknowns in Hollywood. Thanks NAACP. You are the REAL racists. You RUINED the hard work of these wonderful people and stopped their art in its tracks. You stopped them, destroyed their potential and kept them from being successful. 😡
