What you're seeing is an example of the gender bias that has taken America down. She has a band of males who are putty in her hands. In fact, when women brought the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) to Congress, they testified they wanted ALL the jobs, not just equality. And Congress passed it into law anyway. Look where we are today.... I have a Master's Degree and a professional certification. I haven't worked since I was 55 (nine years ago).

I remember meeting Waddy and Andrew Gold while I was in LA just hanging out jamming with some guys I'd met at Capitol Records. They made me do some of my originals too. They liked them, but liked my signing better. I sang uncredited back up in a few sessions with them. Old days.

This is what happens when 1) you have talent, 2) you rehearse, 3) everyone in the band commits to doing their best, and 4) the lead singer knows how to get out of the spotlight when it's time for the other musicians to shine. Outstanding performance by Linda and the whole band!

Yes, she had one of the stronger vocal deliveries in the business, then or now. Not many like her. But, the most interesting thing about her according to documentaries is that she enjoyed sex, and fucked like a banshee back in the day. I always thought of her as a little nymphet but had no basis for knowing what she was like in person, other than she had no problem being bra-less back then. She could sell a rock tune. Plus, she had good players to support her.

To be fair, the artists of the 60s and 70s only seem tame retrospectively. Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Mick Jagger, Elvis… they may not have had tattoos, but they were certainly shocking and upsetting to certain people in their day.

A lot of it was born of no TV and religious singing. People and families had a culture of entertaining themselves and that probably created the rock and roll era. One might conclude the very things that now stifle creativity were used to show it off.

Linda Ronstadt is a superb fenomenal artist who has sang easily in about a dozen different musical genres and extremely well. She has performed with many many very famous artist as well. No female artist has accomplished as great as linda has. The number of record sales has obviously skyrocketed as years go by yes, so the huge amount of other newer artists sales really has nothing to do or mean they would be better than linda. +nancy gillespie Vocalists have their own styles- but every time I hear Adele belt out one of her choruses she's got NO vocal richness or quality like that of Linda Ronstadt's voice. It's just a loud volume control. It's just so true that the Grammy winner vocalists of today don't even come close by comparison to talent and musicianship of Linda.
@unamckillen7125
@unamckillen7125 9 жыл бұрын
+quicksite I am so pleased to read your comment. If I say I don't like Adele, and I don't, it is like I am committing sacrilege. I don't think Adele has any vocal richness: to me she is loud, lumpen and one-note and she strangles her vowels. I actually loathe her voice and all commentators these days tell me I should be moved to tears by it. Occasionally I am but for completely the wrong reasons!Linda sang from the heart. OK, they were not her songs but she sang them sometimes with a depth and richness that the original writer could not even get close to. No, you are right. Today's Grammy winner vocalists cannot compete.

+quicksite I hate to think we are but I do agree with you. I love Linda here and here she is no classicist but Adele does not come close to Linda at her best or even her most mediocre.I have to admit I was prejudiced against Adele from day one, just because of the hype But I still think her voice is leaden and one-note with no emotion I can detect (mind you, I have not been to one of her £2K per ticket London concerts and maybe the emotion there is unanswerable.)

She IS a class act that's hard to follow. Funny how that whole promotional thing worked in those days. One year *you* might be opening a concert for one group or artist and the the next year it might be *you* are the headliner. But I am by no means suggesting that Linda Ronstadt is second to any other artists. (So LR fans don't email me😏)

@@nookam She may have been that way with some of her fellow artists who shared a mutual respect but she righteously resented the way the music industry as a whole treated her. Case in point, she wanted to release an all Spanish album (dedicated to her father) early on but was discouraged/thwarted by the powers that be. But she eventually did what many artists inevitably do and release it under their own label or find somebody that will.👍
