"Hello, mama!" Fun Fact: The scene at Medieval Times where The Cable Guy asks for Steven's chicken skin and then performs his "The Silence of the Lambs" (1991) impression was all improvised. During one take, Jim Carrey asked for the chicken skin out of nowhere. After doing the "The Silence of the Lambs" bit, director Ben Stiller loved it and wanted to keep it in the film even though it wasn't in the script. If you look at Matthew Broderick's face during this scene, you can tell he is cracking up. His reaction is a genuine laugh. Also, Jim Carrey was paid $20 million for his work in this film, a new record. Matthew Broderick was paid about $2 million.
@Kim-hc5si
@Kim-hc5si 8 ай бұрын
And to add to that, the actor that played cop that arrested him (Charles Napier) and the actor that played Steven’s mom (Diane Baker) were both in Silence of the Lambs so maybe that’s where the inspiration comes from 😊

I worked on this film! (*LOL*) ... it was a tough film for Jim Carrey and Ben Stiller - Jim Carrey recently got a 3 picture deal for $20-million per picture and the expectations to deliver were INCREDIBLY high. The public wanted a "goofy" slapstick Jim Carrey - but instead got a very VERY dark comedy about obsession and friendship. I'm glad to see that it has found its audience over the course of time.

"Somebody's gotta kill the babysitter." "Chip" grew up without parental influence, sitting in front of a TV learning social dynamics there. When the big murder case verdict came down (mirror of the real-life Menendez Bros parents murder case), he knew he was about to wreck the broadcast dish -- and knock out cable for all those glued to the screens. He shut down his babysitter.

The little bit where Jim Carrey's on the gurney at the end joking about I Love Lucy, then he says 'jus' messin' with you' and does this little cough, and scrunches up his face into a serious expression like a little kid...the face he makes kills me. Jim Carrey's humour is very variable in quality, but when the writing is as good as it is in The Cable Guy he's an absolute comedic force of nature. He's just amazing in this.

Pulling down his shirt and exposing his nipples is a reference to "Midnight Express" from 1979, which you must see. Another reference to "Midnight Express" is in "Airplane" from 1980, when the pilot says to the boy, "Joey, have you ever been in a Turkish prison?" The 70's were loaded with must-see movies that don't even come up in discussion.

This flick was way ahead of it's time, in fact one of the criticisms was the idea that Cable would turn out as widespread and invasive as it actually did. Cable was kind of a new thing at the time, and while it was pretty well adopted the idea of it being used for internet, phone, and multiple tvs in one house was kind of fantasy. Critics were not kind. Great reaction!

When this first came out people didn't seem to like it and went as far as to say it nearly ruined Jim Carry's career, but nowadays people appreciate it for the dark comedy classic it is. I first saw this when i was 13 and I always loved it. Also, can we take a moment to appreciated how this movie predicted the future: your phone, computer, and television all being on one device, shopping at home, playing video games over the internet, etc. EDIT: Also, the Sam Sweet subplot was supposed to be a parody of the OJ trial and how everybody was obsessed with it at the time.

Jim Carrey was paid 20 million for this film which was a record breaking salary at the time. It sparked other major actors getting bigger paychecks. Unfortunately this movie bombed when it came out, mainly because it was too dark to be mainstream and all the reviewers focused more on his salary than the movie. Personally though, it's one of my favorites and I think it's absolutely hilarious and one of Jim Carrey's best comedic performances

This is a hilarious film. Originally Chris Farley was going to be in the film, but couldn’t do it due to the contract he had with Paramount to do 2 movies and they made sure they’d have him do another movie for them, so they rushed to get Black Sheep made and he missed out on playing Jim Carrey’s part. @@halbaloney4593 yeah, I can see that. That little summarization of the character he gave would fit Chris Farley. Still, it’s one of those What If scenarios where you can imagine The Cable Guy with Farley as the lead instead of Jim Carrey.

Cable Guy and Truman Show are my 2 favorite Jim Carrey movies. "The Truman Show" is not a comedy but it's a great movie.

---- The Cable Guy is a black comedy as a psychological thriller and shows that Jim Carrey can go beyond pure comedy in his acting ---- The Truman Show was both a hit and showed the acting capabilities of Jim Carrey in this satirical sci-fi psychological drama where he played a character who grew up as the main character in a reality TV show that was about Jim's character, Truman Burbank. Definitely a must film to react to ---- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a sci-fi romantic drama starring Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet. This film has become a cult classic and many critics have it as one of the best films of the 2000s and a few put it on their best films of all time list. The original screenplay won the Academy Award and Kate Winslet was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress. This is absolutely a must film to react to
