Hi, I just bought a Brother printer, so the cartridges are full. It uses the LC-404 model.... but I see that it has not yet been tested with that model. Do you think it is a good idea to let the level go down a little (about 30%) and refill it again so that it never marks empty tank and it is not necessary to use a chip resetter?

Thanks for contacting us so thoughtful early about the refill options for Your new Brother printer 👍🏻 When You top up the ink inside the cartridges the displayed ink level will keep going down despite filling in that new printer ink. The displayed ink level is created based on the information provied by the ink chip on the cartrige - that chip does not measure the physical amount of ink inside the cartridge - so You fill up ink but the chip does not know that - the chip counts down the remaining page yield constantly. Without using the resetter on the cartridge´s empty ink chip the printer is not going to accept a cartridge for continued printed when the chip has the status empty - doesn´t matter how much ink is still inside the cartridge. And as per status today (April 6th 2023) the suitable resetter is not available yet....

At the moment (status April 3rd 2023) the necessary chip resetter device is still not available on the market. Just filling up new ink makes no sense without that reset device dedicated to the ink chips on You LC406 cartridges. Even with new ink inside the cartridges are considered by the printer to be empty due to the ink chip´s empty status. We have our eyes on the market for this resetter - we will set up a product for LC406 as soon as we have everything necessary together...

The status today (April 4th 2022) is that this resetter version for LC404 cartridges does not exist yet - we have our eyes on the market and on the suppliers who make such resetters. But they have not made a statement about the expected date of availability of this resetter.

Great helper video - but not to me as my printer is DCP-J 1200W, which takes an LC424C cartridge. There are no non-official cartridges, so far. I much regret buying the Brother last year: there were clunky software isues, it still won't make a proper glass-top copy, power sometimes has to be switched on and off to achieve anything. My good old Canon deskjet soldiered on for 15 years, accepted other-brand carts, even an ink-refill or two. Buyer beware!

We also wait for a LC424 solution - according the manufacturer of the necessary resetter device for refilling original Brother LC424 cartridges - the coding of the ink chips is really complicated. The alternative cartridge mkers face the same obstacle - there is no alternative chip solution ready yet.... (status May 11th 2023)

With status August 5th 2022 we do not have the inks for LC436 yet as the necessary chip resetter for setting back the chip on the original cartridges is not available yet. Without that reset device filling up the cartridge with new ink makes no sense as the printer will not accept the refilled, original cartridge LC436 for further print jobs. We are on it but we do not know a time when the resetter will be available from the suppliers.

Hello Salar, thanks for Your question. The refill tool we assume will work for LC426 too - but we have not tested it yet on this cartridge model as there is no suitable chip resetter available yet. (Status June 23rd 2022) The resetter is a vital part of the refill strategy for these cartridges. Without the reset of the original ink chip on the refilled cartridge the printer is not going to accept this cartridge for printing again.

Hello Salar, thanks for coming back to our answer. Without resetting the chip the printer will not work at all despite having sufficient ink inside the cartridge. Just showing a question mark and start printing with that sign would be fine - this was the situation with older Brother cartridge models which was actually fine. But not anymore unfortunately.

Hello elsa! Yes, the tutorial works for LC3033 and LC3035 too and the resetter also works for chips on LC3033 and LC3035. The resetter is necessary to have as with an empty ink level status (generated by the chip) You cannot keep printing despite You have refilled ink - You need to set back the cartridge´s ink level status. The resetter is made to work on original Brother cartridges.

Hello Usman, getting in the new ink might work the same way for LC406 - we have not tested it yet. But You need to have a chip resetter dedicated to the chips on LC406 cartridges. Without setting back this chip the printer will not accept the cartridge (filled with new ink) for printing. The resetter for LC406 is not available yet (status July 13th 2022).

When developing our inks we aim at getting a consitent print result - that means the mix of our inks provides balanced pictures and graphics plus lasting quality as all color are pigment based inks. The look is not 100% as the Brother ink as it is not allowed to be by legal reasons.

Helo Ben, thanks for Your question. LC424 is a cartridge model on its own - so just these cartridges work in Your printer and no other Brother cartridge models. Status June 27th 2022: at the moment there is no suitable chip resetter available for LC424 - that´s why we have no refill inks and refill instruction yet - the resetter is mandatory to have. Without resetting an original Brother LC424 You can fill in new ink BUT the printer does not accept such a cartridge again for printing.

Without setting back the ink chips which are build onto Your cartridges the printer is not going to accept a refilled cartridge for further printing. So You can fill new ink into an empty cartridge but You cannot print with that cartridge due to the chip´s "empty" status....

Have you found a chip resetter for Brother MFC-j1215w? I have bought many Brother printers and I can't see how they produced this piece of junk and set up advertising to fool so many. I assumed that it would not have a year's supply of ink, but would have a reasonable amount. I got about 90 double sided copies with one small picture and text. That is a ridiculous number of copies after theme advertising it would have a year's supply of ink. There is a whole series starting out with j1205. I am using Brother MFC-J430dw and have used it for five or six years and bought this piece of junk figuring the 430 would quit any day and probably just when I needed some important copies. I hope you can help. thank you

After reading Your comment we have contacted the manufacturer of the resetters and asked them about the status for LC404 Brother cartridges - this is the series running in Your printer. They answer is that they are on it but they cannot give us a date when the resetter will be ready (status September 30th 2022). They will let us know as soon as the development is final.... then we will put it on sale for sure....

@@octopusoffice thank you so much for your reply. The amount of ink that was in the cartridges is about the amount you show at about 1.29. It even said starter cartridge that didn't really register in my brain because I was believing their one year supply advertising. I bought this in March knowing my other Brother would quit soon with an the in absorber was full because that happened to my other Brother printer and my pushing all sorts of numbers doesn't bring up Maintenance. I feel that the five or six years I get out of them is ok. I buy generic ink on ebay and have never had any problems. I didnt research this new printer. Mainly because I believe Brother because they had always been honest before and the printers worked well. I suppose those tanks are new and you and others have not been able to set up anything new. I am wondering why the chip has to be reset if one just adds ink to an already installed cartridge. On my MFC-J460dw, I am going to try and refill them, but the cartridges' cost is ok on them. Right now I found a place where I can get the cartridges ...all four for about $60 and think I will do that in hopes you come up with something, because the cartridges I buy are supposed to work for a year. I only print about 20/30 copies a month. and....to be honest, I can't afford another printer now and I do nee d two printers. Again, thank you for your quick response, I appreciate all your hard research to help us.

Hello starbright, thanks for coming back to our reply! 👍🏻 We are with You on the same side about Brother - they have been more refill friendly until a couple of years ago. When the first chips appeared on original Brother cartridges - the customers were still able / allowed to refill these cartridges with refill ink and keep on printing WITHOUT resetting these chips ( situation has changed now). The bitter truth is (in our humble opinion) sell printers cheap and sell supplies expensive - the starter cartridges do not last that long to make You buy the originals in the time when no alternatives are available as these solutions are still under development. We are on it - when the tools will be ready we test our inks and set up a new product for sale.

Thanks for the question. On the computer´s display You have a version of the ink levels available that shows to You how much ink the printer thinks is left inside the cartridges. Also these bars have a question mark - the mark does not go away by resetting the cartidge.

Hello, thanks for Your question. Actually You are right about the cartridge´s structure - from the picture we assume that Your LC404 are similar to our LC3239 in our tutorial. The tricky part is the reset device - it need to be programmed for the chips on the original LC404 cartridges. Our resetter does not provide this compatibility 😑 LC404 according to out knowledge is US Canada Mexico region - so maybe You can source a matching resetter locally... take care!

Thanks for contacting us about the price structure of our offer. There is a set coming with the resetter for 60 resets + tool + 100ml dedicated inks per color. Its price is 116,58EUR including tax. Depending where You are ordering from plus shipping costs - let us assume You are ordering from US - this is 49,95EUR including tax - so the total for this order would be 167 EUR including tax. With this kit You are able to refill You original Brother LC3237 Black cartridge two times and each of Your original Brother LC3237 Cyan Magenta Yellow cartridges 5 times. Right now we purchase an original Brother LC3237 Black for 32 EUR and the colors Cyan Magenta Yellow for 20 EUR each. So the value of the original material that can be refilled with our lit sums up to 2x32EUR + 15x20EUR in total 364 EUR. When deducting the price for our kit from that sum we think that is still an attractive saving - in our humble opinion. We do not compare the costs towards alternative cartridge solutions as You never know what quality You get inkwise in these cartridges.
