can i use these cartridges with refill the air hole plug closed while printing? or should I close it always after printing? Because sometimes takes more than month to use the printer again....

i have the same cartridges and my printer is brother 4120 i was able to use the cartridges only once and when it said low level I did as you showed: take ink off then insert it back but it didn't work! it keeps showing me thd message "low ink level, use original cartridges" please what is the solution!?

thanks for contacting us about our tutorial. We assume You got Your refillable cartridges from a different supplier - so we do not know any details about the chips on Your cartridges. From Your description we assume that the chips on Your cartridges are one time chips and no resetable chips. The alternative one time chips are usually made to be used for one printing cycle .After that cycle You need to have new chips.

what about when THESE cartridges run out of ink? should I refit the air hole plug prior to refill?

When You take out a cartridge and refill it immediately it is not compulsory to put the plug into the air port. The option to close the air port is more relevant for storing the cartridges when not printing for some time. The closed air port prevents the cartridge from drying out.

My dcp-j4120dw (firmware H) is only using the black cartridge halfway. Meaning: it declares the cartridge empty when it it's still half full (I can only refill with ~11ml). Any workaround?

Hello Hugo, we assume that You cartridge has an LC-223 chip on it - these cartridge work with 12 ml ink, the physical fill amount of the black cartridge body is actually bigger, that is why more ml fit in there. If You fill the full amount of ink that fits in the cartridge body, You can take out the cartridge and set it back again immediately without refilling any ink - the ink level status of the cartridge should be back to full then. This is an advantage when You are in the middle of a print job for example. We recommend to do the refill a little later as it is important to make sure that there is sufficient ink in the cartidge available. This prevents that air is getting into the ink tubes that are leading towards the print head.

What happens if you remove the foil covering the ink port? Does this apply for any and all refillable cartridges?

Thank You very much for the question. The foil keeps the rubber sealing located behind the foil in its position. If You remove the foil completely this rubber seal will fall out.

Hallo, je nach Hersteller (nicht Brother) und Produktionscharge der befüllbaren Patronen kann es schon zu Abweichungen kommen. In der Regel befindet sich hinter der Belüftungsöffnung (air port) immer eine kammerartige Struktur, diese kann man leicht in der seitlichen Ansicht der Patrone erkennen.

Hello Augusto, thanks for Your question. Brother MFC-J1205W uses LC404 cartridges so the refillables in our tutorial for the cartridges LC221 LC223 LC225 and so on do not work in Your printer.

If You refer to our alternative Octopus Fluids inks: Yes, these inks are as good as the inks made by Brother. Up to what a Brother inkjet printer can do for photos (these printers have not been made to be specialists for photo printing) our inks work great for printing pictures.

We do not offer such systems for these Brother cartridges as the installation and running such a system includes some difficulties. We do not say it is impossible but for many of our customers a system with external tanks was some overkill - too much. 😀

When there is a refillable cartridge solution available it is a good alternative in comparison to the original cartridges. At the beginning it needs to invest in the cartridges plus the suitable, alternative inks (good quality) but when You do the math such a solution still provides attractive savings compared to the OEM cartridges.

Thanks for Your question. What cartridges are You working with in which printer model? Did You do anything before the printer started to give that error message? The ink absorber pad is a job for a service technician to change as You need to have access to special servive menus on the printer. Just changing the physical absorber pad does not set back the counter.

Thanks for Your feedback - no offense - the majority of users is not aware of this type of menu and the content of it is also quite difficult to read - I think You agree on that point 🙂 For the absorber pad You actually can use any dense sponge or felt material that You can source. Cut it into the shape of the old on and install it / lay it into the printer´s bottom plate. The main work at this is to disassamble the printer to the point to get the old pad out.

@@octopusoffice no worries.your cartages and ink works just fine. Cleaned sponge my self and boy it was full. Puted it all back together for now and resetted counters. It's all good now. Btw,do you sell glossy A3 photo paper too?
