On the ink bottle there is measuring lines. on a sketch marker you put 1.5 - 2 cc’s in the marker - so check your measure. You can fill it up at least 8 times

Thank you so much! I was nervous about filling too much or not enough. I will keep an eye on that for next time!

The web site says about 60 drops into the sketch marker so it’d probably be easier to drop it straight into the barrel

You should’ve just removed the chisel tip, and refilled it in the actual barrel :/ Do not removed the brush nib because it’s so delicate. (Unless you’re replacing the nib of course)

For the sketch marker you need to pot 2cc not more and you can refill it 14 times

I watched this video now in July 2020 and I don't know if I should laugh or cry about how you did this the first time. I assume you have learned a better way now, I know I did. Before I was filling my markers until they dripped and then I had accidents with big blobs of ink when colouring all the time, but then I learned by Amy Shulke at Vanilla arts that I should fill the marker to it weighed 14.1 grams and I do this every time now and it works very well. I don't know how it will work with the new refills though, but I think I will just have to put in just a little at a time and then weigh the marker. I find that my markers work the best if it's around 14 grams, but I have filled some up to 14,20 without problems but more than that will make the blobs and I like to keep them under 14.5

This is a good tip! It definitely was a scary time trying this for the first time! ☺️ Having a base weight for a filled marker would be best, then you can use either sized refill and always have the best amount.

Thanks for this. I am watching this in 2023 after spilling BG78 all over my thumb and the marker ha. I ended up removing the brush nib with the Copic tweezers and filling my markers but that marker was hard to gauge on how much ink was needed or entering the marker. Thanks for the tip about rubbing alcohol! i need it right now ha. but now my four markers are working again! Also didn't know i had to remove the other cap. I'll do that the next time!

It's an adventure filling Copic markers, that's for sure! ☺️ I'm glad you were able to pick up some helpful tips. If I'm colouring with a marker and the nib starts to swell up with a lot of ink, I'll quickly pull the cap off at the other end and everything settles down before it drops on my artwork. It can be super helpful to remove the other cap for that as well. I'm glad to hear you got everything tidied up and settled. Happy colouring! 😊🎨

Try using a makeup white triangle sponge from local pharmacy like a CVS you get many in a packet so its makeup blending sponges. Put alcohol onto and edge and it cleans up in a snap!

I think your brush nib was clogged and you can clean it with the colorless blender solution.
@LeanneLandArt
@LeanneLandArt 5 жыл бұрын
That would make sense, I bet you're right! I did pick up some spare nibs while I was in Japan, and the Copic tweezers for switching them out. Although it does still work (just not as nice as my other markers) - I'm going to give the colorless blender solution a try. Thanks for the tip!

How do you store your comic markers. I store them at an angel and the ink runs into the cover of the pen.

Take the chisle nib offend fill the marker . Weigh the marker before and after filling. It should never be less than 9 grams and no more than 12.

Hello, where do you buy refills in Canada? Thanks for sharing
@LeanneLandArt
@LeanneLandArt 6 жыл бұрын
That's tricky, I haven't found a great place to order online from yet. I did buy my first refill from Dick Blick online. Some online art stores require you to submit your order then they email you back with shipping costs, which is cumbersome. The other challenge is finding one spot that has all the colours I need. For my next order I will likely look at Curry's. But I usually try to pick up refills when I travel.

Have you seen or tried the new "Blick Studio Brush Markers"? They are refillable too and soon will be out with replaceable nibs. I have heard that they are the just as nice as "Copic" and alot cheaper. Any comments about them?
@LeanneLandArt
@LeanneLandArt 6 жыл бұрын
That's interesting, I haven't tried them yet although I've heard comments about the Michael's brand of marker also being similar and pretty decent. I'd be curious if the ink in the Blick brand would blend as nicely as it does with Copic. I think that would be the biggest noticeable difference, if there was one. I'll keep an eye out for them and perhaps give them a try and compare. Thanks for letting me know!

@@LeanneLandArt The ink is water-resistant & fade-resistant ink according to the box. Brush tip & chisel end and it does blend nicely but would like to know what you think of them. Will be interested in what you think of them.

Great info... I have not tried this, but came across this info... You can weigh a FULL Copic Sketch Marker with caps & nibs & it should be14.6 grams & A full marker without caps and a chisel nib will weigh about 9.3 grams.. lmk if anyone has found success refilling this way.

Thanks for the conversion info, that is helpful! My Colorless Blender ink is measured in ml (200), and the Copic refill is measured in cc. I guess the Copic refill would be about 1/8th of the large Colorless Blender bottle.

Thats happened with some of my copics as well. The brush nib gets sticky and no amount of ink helps that. I guess the solution simply is to buy new brush nibs

A question for beginners, so are there a refill for each of the 300 something colors of copic markers so one would have to buy each color of refill?
@LeanneLandArt
@LeanneLandArt 4 жыл бұрын
There are refills for each of the colours, but some colours are very similar. I think the idea is that you would have a core set of colours you use quite often and would likely want refills of those instead of having to buy a new marker each time. I have a lot of markers but I only have a small number that I need refills for. Just the main colours I use a lot.

No offence intended, but oh myI am worried about where you are getting your information from. I do not know how long you have owned you pens for but you should be refilling constantly if your are using your pens constantly. From long experience I am a total clinic ... a products manufacturer wants you to buy more product and more product. NEVER EVER EVER let your markers become so dry you run the risk ruining the core (the ink well) of the pen. Once that dries out your pen is ruined....and always refill from the chisel end. Gently pull it out and drop in refill. It is way to easy to damage the delicate brush tip. Topping up on the nibs is for an emergency ONLY..... if you are in the middle of colouring one area.

Are you holding the marker straight up? Just wondering no special angle? And I guess the needle is not needed. I saw in a copic video that I think 5cc is what it holds to be filled up
@LeanneLandArt
@LeanneLandArt 7 жыл бұрын
I was holding the marker at about a 45º angle - enough to give a slope for the ink to run down the nib and also slide down into the space between the marker barrel and the top of the nib. I think the needle would make it easier to be accurate with putting the ink in, but it definitely wasn't needed.
@LeanneLandArt
@LeanneLandArt 7 жыл бұрын
The 5cc measurement on the refill would give about 5 refills per container. Which would be awesome! Thanks for mentioning that, I will keep an eye on the levels as I do refill again.

If you don’t have access to rubbing alcohol solution you could also use the colourless blender ink. It’s essentially a clear alcohol that should behave the same way.

I can vouch for using the colorless blender to clean comic ink off of surfaces 🙋🏼‍♀️ At least, of solid, non-porous surfaces. Always recommend testing first to make sure the colorless blender won’t damage a finish/stain! I used mine to clean ink off my white desk surface and got a good result
