Grave within a grave, stoop lights, man without a helmet, on doing of an evil deed blues. These songs are what made me fall in love with this man's music. I've never heard bars written so deeply. So passionately. I love his new music but I really hope he releases another rap album.

grave within a grave gave me a mild panic attack the first time i listened to it. i'm not joking, it was a different feeling than my usual ones tho. it was like a panic attack combined with that "this is profound as fuck" feeling you might get from lsd. good video , the green cover art version of mista thug isolation also has some easter eggs many probably wouldn't have noticed , the skeleton out of the cakset thats full of money, the skeleton with its head down looking like its crying, the person on the globe crying looking disturbed too , on his instagram stories years ago he alluded to be sexually assaulted by a family member but he was posting weird stories at that time without much context so who knows , i def couldnt get into obvlion access when it first came out cause it was a different sound to MTI , cant deny the genius of his work

Excellent video, really. With all due respect though, I’m kind of disappointed you didn’t point out how the terrifying horror first verse in Uneven Compromise was itself 100% about heroin addiction as well

Interesting, how so? I'm about to re-read the lyrics rn to see if I catch the metaphor. But yes, EXCELLENT video; stumbled upon it because I'm seeing LUM in Austin this September! Would've appreciated some coverage of The Weeping Worm, though it's not quintessential to the trajectory you (Regal State) so excellently covered. Passion Sceptre is one of my faves. There's a repeated line - "Crooked letter-E-P-E-R-A-T-E me from the weak; player, I'm gone." A lot of people think he's being grandiose and wants to be separated from "weak rappers," but what he's really saying is "Make me strong so I can kill myself;" as the entire song is about suicidal ideation and using drugs to stifle it.

@jaredburgess1948
@jaredburgess1948 3 жыл бұрын
@@Slims222 I’d always been pretty sure they were entirely separate songs which had nothing to do with each other. I think you could argue that the first track is about heroin addiction, or any addiction, or any mental strife at all really, but I don’t see how it could be proved because it doesn’t say so in the song, nor is it even heavily implied, And I know that Ugly’s never confirmed it himself. Always thought the first song was about Ugly on a more personal level regarding his own demons (literally as the song would have you believe). He alludes to hating the external world and not knowing how to handle it internally, bein choked and strangled and fighting for his survival but eventually succumbing and turning into an empty shell and his soul a subject to torment delivered by the devil himself (which could def be heroin, but it could be anything) and ultimately becoming his bitch for eternity (in other words, the darkness corrupted him and he fell into an endless sleep, ya feel? Lol). So he just continues carrying out the devils work, but he’s in so much pain. However, he acknowledges he brought it on himself; he has no choice but to be “comfortable” in his misery because he’s damned eternally and knows there’s no escaping (or has at least committed to the idea that there isn’t). So yeah, heroin addiction makes total sense. But so would a porn addiction. Or something he did in his past that he can’t forgive himself for. Or existential dread (see oblivion access), or even just depression (if that wasn’t clear by Bedwetter…). Honestly I highly doubt he was trying to convey anything specific to his audience, and I think Uneven Compromise was supposed to be two different songs separated by an interlude and then an outro. When you consider that the interlude consists of a profound existential statement as well as gripes over the music industry this idea makes more sense. What’s it all about?? What’s he sayin when he says it??? Nah jk haha. I think the point is to interpret shit however you want, but to avoid conclusions that can’t be proved, or argue over things which can’t be proved. So I’m comfortable not knowing what it’s about specifically; it doesn’t matter. But yo lil mane, was/am still looking forward to your perspective, and proof that it’s about heroin addiction! I fleshed out my interpretation and my conclusion is that we ain’t know what it’s about, but it’s possible something flew clear over my head!

The music he's made after mista thug isolation is kind of painful to listen to, but it really does just describe the feelings of deep depression better than anything in the last 15 years. It's just something that really hits a raw nerve when you are in that mindset. For that alone I wish him the best for whatever music he makes going forward it really is emotional shit which for rap is rare to hit the nerve that deep.

Rumour has it that one time Oloff was sat next to Jar Jar Binks on a flight. Jar Jar kept kicking the chair in front of him and generally being obnoxious, nobody knew what to do. Eventually one of the flight attendants came over and asked Oloff if he would perform one of his songs to calm Jar Jar down, and when Oloff began rapping the first verse to Doing It Stealthy, Jar Jar immediately relaxed. To this day the two are still close friends.
