I wouldn't have said that Robin Williams was 'on top of the world' as he was struggling financially and getting work as well as being diagnosed with Lewy Bodies Dementia where I personally see his suicide as him making a choice while he had the cognitive function to go out before he became a prisoner in his own body. Do agree with you regarding the face that we show doesn't mean anything. Life and societal expectations are a labyrinth to navigate and staying strong for the benefit of others or not appear weak or even considered like we're 'attention seeking' is an added pressure.

I've been dealing with depression my whole life. I started having panic attacks at night when i was only 8. My parents taught it was only bad dreams, but i knew there was something more. I fought my ass off to get answers when i was a teenager but never really did. I finally got diagnos with chronic depression, anxiety dissorder and borderline personnality dissorder. That package deal is pretty hard to deal with. I had the ''chance'' to almost die because of a car accident (broke my spine and a bunch of other bones, i can still walk tho) so i know what it's like to say ''goodbye world'' in your head and I never want to feel that ever. I think it's even worse, because death isn't an answer for me, so i have no confort in anything, not in life, not in death. I feel stuck, i feel trapped in a life and a body I don't want but can't escape. I feel lonely, i feel sad, I never show who I am or what i feel because i dont wanna be a nuisance in others life. I cope with exessive amout of alcohol every time i have the chance or the money. I have nowhere to go or no one to see. My life is meaningless but i would never kill myself. I'm bound to suffer without taking the easy route. I'm a failure.

I've been where Etika is and it DOES get better. I don't consider doing anything permanent to myself anymore, please hold on long enough to see how much better it gets! EDIT: I want to make it clear this isn't some mindless platitude, I wasn't someone who was fine most of my life then had a bout of depression that went away (although if that is you I have immense sympathy with you as well, depression is a bitch). I was born with moderate to severe OCD that has always effected me, (OCD is among the most debilitating mental illnesses), when I hit a certain age it got a lot worse than it always had been, my plan was to do something very permanent to myself, for years that was my plan. And due to how bad it was I developed depression as well (my counselor's words). I eventually began to research to understand what was going on with me, and sought professional help. Even that didn't magically fix things, my OCD resists medical treatment (one of my parent's also has it and their's has also resisted treatment, but counseling can make a difference, it did for me). That being said, I still ended up feeling better, I have hope for life now. Treatment and communication with the people around you can make a huge difference, but sometimes, time is all that will fully help. But you have to GIVE life that time, maybe a long time, but the light is there, I still struggle, but I KNOW the struggles are temporary, I know the good days are still there, and there's a lot of them.

I have MDD and statements like this really frustrate me. I understand the intent behind it but I also know that my depression will ALWAYS be there, lurking in every dark corner, just waiting to pounce. Every day is and has been an uphill battle for over a decade now. It doesn't always get better, It's just more manageable at times than others. It's not a temporary problem, it's one that will span my lifetime (unless they somehow miraculously find a cure). I know it's a mantra meant to inspire hope, but for some of us, it's further proof that no one understands what we're going through. I don't mean to come off as an asshole here. It's just something I see Everytime something like this lands in the news and it really saddens me.

I can talk from experience. When you do something for fun. (Like react to videos) and grow your audience its fun to watch. Its fun and exciting to see growth.... But Then comes a certain tipping point where your audience starts controlling you. You cannot control how people percieve you anymore. You cannot "have a moment" anymore because people expect you to be at your best 24/7. That is overwhelming, stressful, and absolutely terrifying. It's easy to become trapped and feel there is no way out. Your once method of escape and therapy has become your own personal Hell. And knowing you have to continue to "apease your audience" death feels like the only escape. Most big youtubers that are smart dont manage their own audiences and social media. If one does try to manage it, they tend to go down a path of self destruction.... Because you cannot turn it off.. Ever...

"a spotlight doesn't hug back" & "we're all different kinds of broken (& we all have varying levels of how well we shield it) " Are two quotes that will always stick with me i already know that now. I personally had never heard of Etika before and I'm not in a good enough state of mind to watch that video rn, but I still feel heartbroken knowing he's not alive anymore. For everyone who cares about him fans, friends and family I'm so sorry for what they're going through and I understand that no amount of words will ever make it right. So to them and to everyone going through a though time (eventhough this will probably get lost in a sea of comments): take a deep breath & stay strong, and don't be afraid to reach out for help if you need it. Reaching out will always be a strength rather than a weakness. You've got this

Some of us who struggle with issues such as those that Etika dealt with find it nearly impossible to reach out in our times of need. Fears of incredulity, being turned away, being a burden, having someone judging, not being good enough, being deemed as weak or even called a liar scream in our minds. We feel like we cannot reach out or shouldn’t. There certainly exists a stigma around mental health issues. Looked down on. Told to “get over it”. And statements of “but aren’t I enough to make you happy?” It is sometimes enough to silence a person and keep the issues hidden. And some of us are quite skilled in faking it till we make it.....or more so until we just crack, break, shatter. I withdraw more and more each day from those around me. I haven’t had friends in quite a long time. My family lives next door to me and they no longer wish to speak to me. And I understand why these people didn’t care to be around me anymore. I’ve mostly come to terms with who I am, and who I will never be. I’ve always felt I am seemingly the most beautiful gift (not that I am personally anything to look at) at the party. When the paper and bows and ribbons have been removed, I am ultimately the least liked gift. Then tossed aside for something far more wanted. It’s a difficult life. Made nearly impossible for those who do not have the access or the income to pay for treatment. I seek no sympathy for myself with this post. What I want to impart is that if you see signs of depression, anxiety issues, mental health issues of any kind, please reach out to that person. You may be the one person who cares enough to help. A kind word can truly make a world of difference.

Please reach out, even if its something minor, you are not an inconvenience or weak, in fact, you realize your need for help and like anything thing that involves asking for help, you are willing to work to be better at it and there's strength in that. Thank you for working on these things and trying to not go down that route. If you havent seen Etika's last video (as Philip says, dont watch it if you're not in a great place rn) he does mention that he hopes others at least learn from what happened to him. That you can get help, that you arent pushing people away and you can embrace them if you are. I hope things turn out well for you :)

Soul Semblance That’s so great to hear! I lost my brother 7 years ago and it destroyed my life completely😭 I loved him more than anything in this world, he was only 19. I wish he knew how much we loved him, my family, his friends. We never knew that he was depressed. So please be strong, ask for help wherever you can get it, know that there are people who love you, care about you, and they are ready to help you if you ever feel lonely and sad. Everything will get better. You are so brave and I am so proud of you. You made all these people here (who read it) happy with your comment. Be strong ❤️❤️ I wish you happiness and joy 🤗

I saw Dan Bell call it “Creator mental illness” and I couldnt agree more. This website can be a cesspool sometimes. Not just the comments. You need to have a tough personality to be on this website. It’s one of the reasons I dont do it altough I would love to make money on KZbin.

As someone who went through major depression, who attempted suicide 3 times, and who was in a mental hospital 5 times, let me tell you that it gets better. It really, truly does. Everything in life takes time. The number one thing that helped me was asking for help. I let others know how I felt because I was so scared of myself. I received therapy, medicine, and support from my family. Hang in there. If you’re going through hell, just keep on going.
