He looks so young here -- a charming intelligent boy playing a demanding role as Chicken George that shows off his prodigious talent.. Flash forward only 3 years (2019) when Bridgeton was filmed and you have him in a role where he morphs into a commanding mysterious presence that sets every female heart aflutter with its virility and that carries over into interviews where the talk is all about him as the next James Bond and probably People magazine's next "Sexiest man alive," headed for awards recognition big time. He is aging beautifully in all depts.

The history series was just more detailed than the original. In hindsight the original seems rather superficial. Acting has gotten better over the decades. It's like figure-skating that keeps breaking records for originality and technical excellence and nothing shows it more than the ensemble acting in this history series. I was only curious in seeing the new series because of Rege Jean and Bridgerton. Talk about roles that are poles apart. Could the dashing mysterious Duke of Hastings manage to also be a much younger American slave of the old south before the civil war and during as we see him age? Famous for his gift of gab and stories rather than the brooding reticence of the Duke? Simply stated, YES! Rege Jean Page was a revelation! Many critics consider Roots his break-out role, not Bridgerton. At this point I believe Rege Jean Page can play anything. He seems to have a good head on his shoulders and I hope that carries thru to his choices for future roles. It's fun to discover a new talent headed for the heights that is so easy on the eyes, as well as being charming, intelligent and articulate.

The original roots came out when I was 10 years old so the new roots comes out when I'm in my 40's and what a difference. One of my favorite scenes was the breakdown of "Chicken George" in the carriage to be taken off away from his family as he cried out in anguish and agony at the thought of being stripped from his wife and children. And I also loved the reunion that he and his wife portrayed. I loved this roots because it did show some battles won.

It's heartbreaking to watch. When you think of your own value vs the value others place on you, and then experience how that changes the way you look at yourself and people who look like you. It's heartbreaking. But I guess I never really thought about what actors who play these characters go through so we can have a meaningful experience. It adds another dimension and becomes even more heartbreaking...

They did that on purpose apparently since a debutante was supposed to be around 17-20. Because IRL she's a whole grown woman and they could have made her character look more adult if they wanted to.

Ssr: That's precisely the point. Remember when the Duke says she's barely out of lead strings (the strings sown on children's clothing of that era and used as a leash)? Daphne is a clueless virgin in her late teens and the Duke an older very experienced man probably close to 30. Both actors look the parts they play and embody that May/December vibe and tension the author was after because it was so typical for that era.

I thought that Roots was a much better movie then the first one it told a lot of truth how Slavery really happen to the African American people once we got here and begun life in this United States . I feel it was much better once again much better doc-drama then the one in the 70’s , glad that they took on a great project.
