OK, this is the story of that song, she wrote the lyrics and co-composed the music with the man who cheated on her, serious, you have to be (F&%?$*!@g) strong to do that. After that , she left the USA and went back home to Belgium at her parents place, heart broken for many years. 5-6 years later, the greatest music composer and producer from Russia Igor Krutoy brought her to Russia and Ukraine and the two of them have created some of the best songs in Lara's career.... Mademoiselle Zhivago (9 or 10 songs) she became #1 in all the countries of the ex-USSR and this is only a small part of her fabulous carer.

This concert, From Lara With Love, was filmed in Montreal for distribution in the US in 2000 on PBS. It was a major part of introducing herself to us. She did a bunch of tv appearances and was just getting the ball rolling when it fell apart. You can blame Sony and Celine Dion's team at Sony for robbing us of her. It's unfortunate Lara signed with the same label as her. Not Celine herself, as far as we know, but her team were so threatened by Lara they made the label push her into a more pop-dance genre. Lara has talked about this in interviews, so it's directly from her. She didn't want to do that and the deal fell apart. She went back to Europe and Canada to pick up the pieces after going through a very dark period. The album and concert Nue came out of it, arguably her best album, and the concert is a healing love fest for her. This is where the Je T'aime video of the audience singing to her came from. I only discovered her in 2018 while watching the Winter Olympics. A pair of Canadian skaters used Je Suis Malade and it grabbed me so hard I had to know who was singing. It's the greatest rabbit hole in all of KZbin!

As soon as I got the notifications, I had to come quickly to your page to tell you how important Lara is to me. She is a Huge Artist, a real Diva, although born in Belgium her career broke out , here, in France in the early 90s with her two Hits " JE T ' AIME " then " TOUT " She was adored but also hated, with part of the press who were really mean to her and Lara really suffered from it being a gentle, whole, generous person .... But she was able to bring together a network of Unconditional and Exceptional Fan Base who have always been there in painful times and who have supported her ALWAYS wonderfully. But here I talk too much, I have a nice anecdote to tell you about a certain very special CONCERT of Lara in Paris in end of 2001 ....... I will tell it to you next time . Well I have so much to say, I've seen her about twenty times live, it would take hours.... But I stopped on this page of "Broken Vow" because it's my favorite song from that era. Lara, vocally Brilliant Magistral, Divine, deploys all her unique art of interpretation. With Lara, everything is lived at 1000 percent. This song, which she co-wrote with Walter Afanasieff, is a true melodically speaking Masterpiece, but Lara's Exceptional Interpretation in this Specific title is doubly touching because she was really going through heartbreaking emotional suffering in her personal life after a betrayal. Exactly like the words of her song... Hence this Passion that gives us so many shivers in her Brilliant and Masterful interpretation of "Broken Vow"!!!!! It is beyond the Sublime VOICE an Outstanding Performer, LARA is EMOTION personified. The Grace, the Class and the Vocal Perfection of a very Great, who is finally Recognized only in recent years, whereas it was not the case when she started her international career at the end of the 90s. She had been put in a lot of obstacles to the explosion of her career but now she is adored at her true value in all corners of the planet. The music of Broken Vow was co-composed by Walter Afanassiev and Lara Fabian. Walter Afanassiev, an american/brazilian from russian descent, is a legendary composer and producer (he composed some of the greatest initial hits of Mariah Carey such as All I Want for Christmas is You and was the producer of the Titanic soundtrack that brought Celine Dion to WW fame). He is also now the producer of Dimash for his US career. When this song was composed, Walter and Lara were engaged, but apparently he cheated and she decided to break up. When she took this decision, that she knew would dramatically change both her personal and professional destiny, she wrote these incredible lyrics. Lara has said this is her preferred english song from all the songs she wrote in this language (there are many, and some are pure jewels). One reason is also because this song has then been covered by the greatests: - Barbra Streisand (she performed it in concerts from one of her tour but never recorded it), - Josh Groban (his cover made this song famous in US, she is her friend and role model and he made several duets with her), - Cakra Khan, - Gigi de Lana, - Regine Velasquez, - Almira (from 4th Impact), - Katrina Velarde, - Julie Anne San Jose, - Sarah Geronimo, - Morissette Amon, - Petra Berger, - Harrison Craig, - Rimar, - Jackie Evancho, - … Regarding Jackie Evancho, and at the request of Jackie's parents who found the original lyrics were not a good fit for a young girl, Lara rewrote Broken Vow in french as "Imaginer" with a complete different meaning.

BTW Lara rewrote this song for 11 year old Jackie Evancho after Jackie's manager had contacted Lara's manager. Her parents said the song was too mature for Jackie to sing the words Lara had written.

An absolute Master Class - every time, and that's not even talking about the pure bell-like beauty of her unique voice. Lara is way up there with that very tiny handful of simply the best vocalists on the planet. [ Little wonder that artists like Dimash look up to her so much! ] BTW still looking for the forgiveness bit. Did you find it? T'was mostly about the pain. I guess she was saying she's trying to hold onto the memory of the sweetness that was - rather than the bitterness of it's loss. Hard to do when there's lies and betrayal poisoning the mix. At some point you have to draw a line and move on, otherwise your head - and heart - are forever twisted, turning to look back, rather than forward. Who can notice, let along start upon, new pathways into the future when your eyes are stuck in the rear-view mirror!? This is what Forgiveness is actually about. The “Llora” video she did left me shaken…it is graphic,but the message is so important! Lara felt the issue needed to be addressed after a woman in Spain lost her life,with no one coming to her aid. Perhaps a domestic violence trigger warning before airing might be given in order to not re-traumatize anyone who has experienced this. Just a head’s up from someone who knows and cares deeply. You,two,are wonderful reactors who approach these videos with heart and integrity. I hope you will still watch the “Llora” video…it is sung in Spanish,but I watched the one with English subtitles.

This was a concert that was filmed for distribution in the US in 2000, and Canada of course, not a tour. The orchestra is all real.
