I remember this so well, I was an intern for this show. Nick demanded several takes for this production, while the other members of the group were just smiling and even tried to do small talks with Regine. The songbird just simply played along, didn't show much of her range during the rehearsals, but drop the bomb during the final performance that even us, the entire production crew were surprised.

@@carleoke2400 yep, and if I may add, they had a rehearsal 2 hours prior to the live show. The studio was already half-full since the live audience were already allowed to come in. They thought they'll be up for an early treat watching the rehearsal, but Nick came in late. So we had to cut their time, to give chance for the other prod line up. Nick was upset but the other 3 members, Jeff, Drew and Justin kept their cool. They even stayed just for some photo ops with Regine and their fans, but Nick went straight to their designated dressing room. It's always the same arrangement for every foreign act guesting in SOP show to do the prod with the SOP mainstays, so Nick really had no choice but to put up with Regine.

I’ve seen many of Regine’s performances on TV and concerts here in America. When she is singing with other artists, she doesn’t upstage them instead allowed them to shine. Regine doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone. So, to hear her deliberately do so to someone is shocking to me. From the online interview where she confessed about this, she upstage Nick during rehearsals because of his demeanor. GO REGINE! I’ll always be a fan! 🤩

You know what... I was at the taping of that number of her show S.O.P. It was truly a treat to be invited by my friend who was the assistant director of that show. Aside from 98 degrees, Jordan Knight of the group New kids on the block was also a guest who performed a separate song number. I knew that there was tension in that taping because Nick asked for the number to be done several times because obviously Regine's voice is so powerful that she would make those guys seems like her backup singers. He had to ask her to "tone it down". The rest of the guys were shy and timid but Nick was acting a bit intimidating when they entered the studio. I knew Regine was just showing proper Filipino hospitality by not acting like the superstar that she is and just played along. That actually was the worst rendition of the 4 times Nick asked the song to be done again. But overall I had a blast! Had some pics taken... This was during the mid 90s when camera phones barely started to evolve and I was using a crappy camera then. 😊

From what i could remember from some forums way back 2002.. it was a sudden performance so the rehearsal was a bit rushed.. so it was apparent during their performance that night, mandy struggling on her own song and regine forgetting the lyrics during the bridge part...and from what i saw on the forum.. mandy was asked who she wants to collaborate for it, she was asked to choose from a pool of female singers from south east asia who will be attending the awards night and she chose regine... they also had a backstage interview after their performance...

Regine gave us tea that she really liked the guys except for nick, whom she found so full of himself. She didnt elaborate what made her say that but based on her word choice, it may have been because of a “diva attitude” which didnt sit well with regine... so she planned on getting even with him by “eating him alive” on stage.

It is possible that this singer, Nick showed something a really bad attitude to Regine, because we all know that Regine is very humble and supportive singer. This is the first and last issue that I heard about upstaging someone. It's a good thing that she puts that guy to his place, if it's true.
