These songs won't be recognized in the Philippines if Regine did not sing it over and over again, such as butterfly and Never too far. I've learned these songs by listening to Regine, not Mariah. Thanks to Mariah for creating beautiful songs and thanks to Regine for making me appreciate these songs. That's why I'm in lover with her taleng. She is my one and only Queen of vocals.

Matthias, thx for loving OUR QUEEN, the quintessential SONGBIRD! You are right. She belongs on the pedestal with Mariah, Whitney and Celine. She is the one who deserves the international limelight as the other 3 divas. Too bad that at her prime 30 years ago, youtube and the other social media platforms were unheard of. And asian vocal powerhouses were not as acknowledged in the western world as they are now. You’ve answered yourself part of your question as to why Regine did not become international. Well she kinda did make it internationally, but mostly around Asia. And she said in an interview that it was too much for her when she tried it out in Asia first. After winning the Asia Pacific Singing Contest, she was the talk of the town in the Asian music industry. That’s when international opportunities came up for her. But she said that It was too much traveling and being away from home. She starts being homesick just after a week of being away from her family and the Philippines. But the worst part was that they were trying to change her and dictate what she should do and how she should act, etc. She was too Filipina for their liking. And that one really bugged her the most. So she called it quits and went back to continue her career in the Philippines where she blossomed to become the biggest OPM artist of all time. And like you said, there are songs that are big hits in the Philippines that no one here in the US even knew existed. If she came to Hollywood, she won’t have the same freedom as an artist that she gets as she does in the Philippines. Plus, she became such a big star in the Philippines that she could not just leave anyway. She’s happy and contented in the Philippines. And I think she made the right choice 😉

According to Regine in an interview, she would need to stay in another country if she wanted to make it internationally and she couldn’t do that. She wanted to be close to her family and since she already have a career in the Philippines, she settled being a local artist. She did try for Miss Saigon, but it wasn’t clear for her if she got the role because she was told that she needed to “train” in London.

This is the best reaction vid ive seen of you so far. I was so entertained with you getting life from the performance. Anyway, she did get regional fame in Asia in the 90s (she was touring non-stop and made waves in Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Hong Kong China, Singapore, etc), but according to her recent interview, its not about the lack of opportunity that kept her from international fame (in fact she was short-listed to play Kim at Miss Saigon but later on didnt follow-through on the formal training invite), but her apprehension of living in another country away from her family. And she didnt like the feeling of proving herself over and over again with every country she visits when she has an already established base in the Philippines, so she stayed home for good and focused on the local music scene up around the early 2000s. But thank God for the internet, People are now getting to know Regine.

Regine is a national treasure!! I agree that she should be an international arena considering how talented she is. To answer your question as to why Regine was not known internationally? She tried to go abroad but preferred to stay in the Philippines for good. First, racial discrimination. Second, if she would go in the other country, she needed to start from scratch. She doesn't want to please who don't like her, because everyone loves her here. And lastly, homesickness. After the compilation regine is indeed very successful in asia but the discrimination she felt during that time is very hard on her to handle.
