18:20. The station building is West Side Market in downtown Cleveland. It's and old train station building that is now a massive indoor farmers market. It has a bunch of little stalls that sell fresh produce, meat, bread, sandwiches, soup, fudge, and literally anything you can think of. It's all fresh and hommade. Very cool place and I love seeing my city represented here. Great video as always pres!

Maybe Amtrak instead of Metra. I don’t think the Metra goes outside Illinois. Honestly I can’t remember I only used it for burbs to the city. Love what you do. The stories and history you come up with just blow my mind. It’s definitely what pulls me in. Can you get homesick for a place that doesn’t exist? This absolutely nails the vibe of a lot of the Chicago metro area/south eastern Wisconsin
@Rudy-ec1er3 жыл бұрын
One thing you have to fix is the direction of the trains. Every Engine faces away from Chicago bc they pull in backwards at Union Station or OTC. This is so the engine fumes are as far away as possible from the stations and passengers. This means trains run in reverse to Chicago, and forward when heading to the terminus.

Great episode! I watched the stream so I remember some of this. The station is kind of large for such a small city, especially since there’s less ridership at the end of the lines. I really enjoyed the Metra Yard though. Good job!👍

What about public services. Small old town like that typically can old downtown fire station and small little police station with smaller hospitals or clinics?
@danielmiller81563 жыл бұрын
From Iowa here. Cargo trains are of three different color schemes. Red/Yellow, Yellow/orange, Yellow/Black. There are still a couple of old trains in use that are deep green. Then there's Amtrak passenger trains. Lots of Whites, Grays, Silvers, and polished stainless steel look. The roads are not well maintained. Road maintenance building and landfills can usually be found on dirt or gravel roads, and the typical in town roads are all cracked and worn with patch repair jobs to cover the potholes. The worn roads assets would cover that aspect nicely. Dollar stores can be found everywhere, so seeing one in the build was spot on. Some towns have multiple Dollar stores competing against each other. Locally, we have two that are less than three blocks from each other. Walmart is the place to go within the midwest. There's no money for anyplace better. Aotozone and Oreillys are found everywhere. But these are assets I don't think the game has available yet. Every town, even with a population as little as 20 people, has parks. Fishing is very popular, so lots of park assets surrounding a small lake would be spot on. In the wintertime, these areas are very popular for snowmobile enthusiasts who will often have races on the frozen lakes. Snowmobiles are treated as acceptable transportation, even for work, during the deep winter months. Smaller towns will have a satelite station instead of a police department. Usually only has 2 cops with one patrol car that patrols that town and those nearby within 10 miles. Arrests are taken into actual police stations, sheriff's office, or law enforcement center at a larger nearby town. The really small towns have abandoned dirt roads that are often used in the summer months for the mudding enthusiast. Double up in the winter months for those love love to 4X4 through deep snow drifts. It's practically a sport around here. It's common to see someone's front yard all torn up with construction barricades during the winter months. Frozen water pipes will relocate your front lawn. A frozen water main can close off 2 lanes of a 4 lane road. The colors of the buildings pop too much in your build. While it's appropriate for a new building less than 5 years old, remember that everything else is color faded from dealing with hot summers AND harsh winters. Older building in use can often be mistaken as abandoned. Some are fortunate enough for a front yard, and they will have a tree. Most have a back yard with trees. Add a little space in the back yards instead of just filling all the space in. Those living in apartment complexes are just out of luck. Not likely to get any yard at all which makes the need for nearby parks more vital. For having little information on the midwest yourself, I say you did quite an excellent job in your build. Many things you did reminded me of something in a nearby town. Well done.

Funny you mentioned that part about having the correct train for the correct line, because the Metra wiki article actually lists out rolling stock by the line they're assigned to lol. And I think you got it right assuming this is based on the one line that goes into Wisconsin or a hypothetical extension of the one that currently stops just short of the state border Also... what would you think about having a guest builder or patron build the airport, then import it through MoveIt? If it's nothing too big it might not be that much of a hassle
