I have a pickup. If I was your neighbor, I would tell you that on garbage day eve I would stand by in case you called while out walking and needed help to load and haul a treasure away. We could put the table and chest in your living room. I fully sympathize with your feelings about seeing such waste. I have a Craftsman torque wrench still in it's original box which says it is a "bending beam " torque wrench. I used it to reinstall the cylinder heads on my faithful 1968 Camaro. Thank you for renewing those beautiful Klein pliers.

Adding a stop to the torque wrench is brilliant! That style is what I remember as a kid, then we got the "clickers" and now everyone is migrating to digitals. What's next?! Technology is moving so fast these days! I just purchased a sonic toothbrush and to my surprise, the dang thing is Bluetooth and now my phone tells me I'm not brushing my teeth correctly!

John, I’ve missed you - been crazy sick for a couple years, and felt too ill to follow you. Still a loyal friend. I had to tell you my aunt had an identical porcelain kitchen table down to the base and the red trim. I spent summers and Christmases with them in Chicago all through my childhood. Now that I’m facing the end, I wish somehow my kids in their 30s could experience that slower, calmer world, where work was valued and people were kind. It also hurts my heart to see how people these days throw away high quality things like that cedar cabinet. Keep your head up!

Greetings John, Ya Know, todays kids don’t want anything old. Crap, back in the early 70’s, when my wife and I got married, we were fortunate to be able to furnish our small apartment. When we bought our first home, we accepted anything, anyone offered to us. Today’s kids don’t want anything from anyone unless it’s new and suits their tastes. It kills me when you see todays kids not wanting a house because it doesn’t have a quartz counter top in the kitchen.

Cool town isn’t it a pity. So you got another smile out of me on that one. Not even a smirk from you. What a joker face. I very much identify with your sense of humor. Great job. I know what you mean about having to say no to great vintage stuff. It’s very tough because you know that poor table will be junked. I think I bought my last vintage power tool for a while. I just got a Millers Falls 1/2” industrial power drill. It must weigh 25 lbs. no load speed is 675, under load is 450. Draws 5 amps. It is such a beast of a drill. I got it for $30. Cord and plug are original as best as I can tell. Very pliable. Never seen an old cord like this one. The strain relief sleeve is hard as a rock almost looks like leather. Another piece of our heritage saved. It runs fine. Nice Jacob Chuck and the key is on a chain. I now have many metal housing power tools from the 20’s through 50’s. My grandmother who lived in Astoria had that exact table. She also had utensils with a clear red plastic handles like screw driver type, with some sort of white circle on it. Not sure how accurate that is because we left Queens in fall of 1959, so last time I saw it was before then. Torque wrenches. I have two of the craftsman beam wrenches, one ft. lbs. my other torque wrench, also a craftsman is inch lbs for smaller stuff. I still have the styrofoam blocks they came packed with in the box so the lay flat. I bought them in the early 1970’s and they look brand new. I’ve got to stop here, you must groan with my War and Peace length messages. Not many folks I can enjoy this type of discussion with. Very much appreciate this community. Thanks John.

But then again we can only do so much. Another great video and nice restoration. Nice save o n the Klein’s. The table you found , I had one with chairs. I believe they were used in apartments. The drawer was used for silverware. My set had Crome legs and chairs were Crome sled bases. The cedar cabinet , I could not have left. If nothing else repurpose the wood. I know how you feel about good stuff being dumped. I tried to donate a truck load of merchandise that was good shape to new. Three donation sites including Goodwill would not take it. I had no choice but go to the dump. Perhaps the garbage collectors will take it and save it from the dump. I see those torque wrenches often, no one wants them anymore because folks don’t fix their own cars and/or know what a torque wrench is for. I have been a tool user and collector since 1966 when I got my first car. John, the stop on the torque wrench is a good idea but I have found all good ideas usually, sadly, have been thought of already. The Kleins came out nice...My first set was that one and I still have it although it's pretty beat up. The "HD" models had like a double-dipped handles so if those cuts aren't all the way through you might be able to skin a layer off. I think it's time to put up a butler building on your upstate property for all of your "finds". Maybe not as big as DiResta's shop but big enough...Make a little apartment in one corner so you can stay for a few days. lol George

I have two of the 1/2 inch Craftsman as well as a 3/8. Of course I mostly just use the modern clicker ones but I can't get myself to pass the old ones on. As to the flea market, make yourself a wagon that can be a flatbed or stake sided. I have seen over the top ones at car swap meets that the rear end is the back wheels of a mobility scooter. The frames go bad in the rust belt and salted parking lot or sidewalks. You could build your own but these have built in forward and reverse. Be happy here if it is thown out it is usually trashed. Is there a boardwalk out there to sit under? You know when the sun beats and burns the tar up on the roof.

ScoutCrafter, Have you tried painting the stampings with India ink to enhance the quality/presence of the lettering. If I recall correctly that was how detail was added to scrimshaw. Excess ink can be wiped away when wet or rubbed off after drying. You could add some electrical tape for insulstion, wire, battery and a light or buzzer to the torque wrench. When you reach the desire torque you'll get a light buzz or both. Bob
