I would venture to say the VR4 was not designed to compete with the NSX, STI, or Supra. They set their target on the Skyline GTR, the VR4 even had rear wheel steering, just like the GTRs. But the GTR was a better car than the VR4s were

Now, tbh, people typically see the Starion as the predecessor to both of those cars, but the eclipse is an American market only car assembled domestically with imported parts and the Starion was Not. Outside markets did get a Starion with a 12v Cyclone DASH 4g63 turbo though, which I'm jealous of, because I'm stuck with the torquey, but valve floaty forklift engine and wideblock 4g63's aren't easy to come by.

Not only could you order up this badass car as the Dodge Stealth, but my first car, a 1990 Dodge Colt, was a base model Mitsubishi Mirage. I still have mine. Lately, this car is turning more heads as I go down the road and getting more thumbs up from people as I drive by. To see a running example is rare these days, since most of the kids from 2001-2009 kissed them with trees trying to be "fast and furious". I'm so glad I kept mine all these years, I wouldn't even want to begin to search for one unless it came from a known good standing member in the 3S community. To get a 3000GT/Stealth today, will require deep pockets to keep it running, and I'm by no means bulls87tting you on that. This is not a car you just decide to get into. It's a commitment.

The 3KGTVR4 is one of my favorite cars out there despite it's short comings with the reliability. It and the 300zx both aged like a fine wine. Both look like new cars still today. But the 3KGT had so much tech from active aero, damping, and 4ws. The interiors are great as well. But to me a 3KGT is a bit of a forbidden fruit. You know you want one, but you know it's going to come with downtime, and hard items to service. If you can't do it your self, its going to come with hefty service bills as well. If you want to modify it, you know it's fragile and already built to it's limits from the factory. (unlike the Supra which was overbuilt) I think we all want one, but sometimes just know better than to buy one. To me, it's on my bucket list of cars, but at a low priority.

You don't even need Techmoan, cassette tapes have cutouts on their spine that denote if the tape is type 1, (ferrous), type 2 (chrome) or type 3 (ferrochrome) or the hallowed type 4 (metal). It's not wizardry, very basic tape decks will be able to distinguish between the different types. The real kicker here is that the car stereo is capable of recognising and type 4, not every tape deck could do that, so it's something special.

FM diversity is just a fancy way of saying it had multiple antennas. The Subaru SVX also had that, but it's not advertised on the head unit. Basically, the radio can switch between the antennas, depending on which one has a stronger signal at the time. It's pretty cool how well it works, but you'd never really know it was there unless you installed an aftermarket head unit since most of them only utilize one of the antennas.

Overblown imo. Kinda like how an Altima doesn't automatically make you a bad driver, it attracts that certain type so you associate the two. 6G72TT doesn't automatically mean it's gonna blow up, it attracts the type to trash it or make it unreliable with dumb mods. With time people also figured out how to mod them reliably, it's easier now than ever to not blow up.

For those that went right to rage posting: he does address his previous sentiments on the stealth at 19:27. I went back and watched the Stealth review since everyone is up in arms - he still praises a lot for the same weirdness and echoes the sentiments about Mitsubishi shooting their shot with all their tech, and it looking sharp. In this one, he actually seems to drive the vehicle, forgoing the criticisms about the MSRP (which was one of the biggest hangups), how the Stealth RT was overshadowed by the Viper, and the forum-echoed sentiment of their powertrain fragility and comes away with a new appreciation from just driving it. By separating his usual nuanced views on value and society and whatnot, and just driving the car - he learned to really appreciate it, or maybe HE SALES PITCH GIVEAWAY AND IS BAD.

Amazing that there was ZERO mention of the 300ZXTT considering it was the progenitor of the six cylinder twin turbo GT car. When the GTO here was designed, there was no 4th gen Supra; it was gunning for the Z. It even ripped off Nissan tech like all-wheel steering. It's a far more apt comparison than a 4th gen Supra or a NSX. Heck, with all the mentions of fighter jets and ad talk, you didn't even mention that the Z32 ad FEATURED a fighter jet. I think the lack of recognition lends creedence to that car being the ACTUAL dark horse of the 90s.
