Dr... it's time i say this. Thank you... thank you so so so much. After my stroke, at 47yrs old, it was months before i could even get in the door to physical therapy. I had to take it upon myself and was truly BLESSED to have come across your page. The arm exercises i began with... all i can say is that when the arm returned to function, the therapist couldn't believe it. It was YOUR help, my stubborness, and true Grace. I've healed so much since. Thank you.. thank you.

I used the suggested techniques presented on this youtube channel. I remember vaguely using my walking cane initially. I could not describe it as well as it is shown in these videos from this extraordinary Dr. Tobias.. patience and hope. ... Follow the guidance here ...perhaps try to not be discouraged by lack of progress but encouraged by whatever does. These days, staying focused on the lessons gained through difficulties help very much. It's critically important I consciously make the effort to stay focused on the positive. The journey has not ended for certain as the lessons of life's classroom are only now even visible.

​@@jollyrancher7657 Please don't see it as "waiting" rather, "healing" is much kinder to yourself. My stroke was almost a year and a half ago and I'm still in rehab working on getting mobility back in my arm and leg. Every little step brings me closer to returning to my life. It takes effort to have patience and trust in my body through such a "strange" and unknown process. Repetition is my new friend when i feel impatience creepin on me. Today I found you on KZbin. It was my fate to find you. I am leftsided hemiplegic with left side neglect, and post stroke nearly 3 years. Since the stroke Ive used a walker inside and outside. Im 76 and female. Recently I suspected I lack the confidence to walk without the walker, as I have no balance when using a stick. But after watching your video and reading FAITH IT til you make it I walked 12 steps without support and then 12 steps back to chair! Im going to build on that without losing quality of movement. I found this a very useful video with useful excercises to do. Many thanks to you. I will keep watching your videos. Thankyou .

I have walked over 2,800 steps today. As a quadriplegic with strong spastic stiffness this is a good score.

Here is a positive post for your subscribers. I had a devastating haemorrhagic stroke six years ago. Four years ago, I could only walk slowly for 200 yards, with a very poor gait. With the help of an excellent neurological physiotherapist here in England and a great deal of perseverance and determination I have improved sufficiently to walk a marathon over 12 days. This is even more remarkable as I have left side hemiplegia. I use an electrical stimulator to help me walk, but do need to hold my husband’s arm. We have raised £2,000 for the Stroke Association charity here in England. My message is keep trying and you will surprise yourself with what you can achieve. I might never be able to use my left arm and hand, but I can contribute to society.

Great video, I am just starting outpatient PT this month, yeah! So I am on sedentary side use wheelchair. I have been using your videos & exercises while I was waiting for outpatient. I am right at the 6 month mark since stroke. From watching your videos I am able to stand at least 10 - 15 mins a day. I look forward to talking my first step. Thanks Dr T.

I found I could do a lot more with a shopping cart in a store. I bought a half shopping cart from a local store. I now can walk the whole neighborhood block pushing a cart with a handy water bottle/Cain holder. The neighbors laugh and call me the bag man. But it works for me no rain or bad weather I can do 2 complete laps. Works out to about 3 miles a day

Thank you for these great videos. They have helped me with balance, subluxation and so much more. I had a stroke left sided in 2019 just after finishing surgery and treatment RAI for thyroid cancer. Then as I was doing rehab COVID19 hit and stopped everything as I live in a very small community 50 miles to another town. Since I found your videos I am following you and doing rehab using your instructions. Making progress. You are helping so many thank you!

Hi Dr Tobias, you wanted to know who is watching. I had a haemorrhagic stroke in August 2018 and was hemiplegic. I’ve been following you for some time now. I’m now walking around a mile a day but am getting pain in my unaffected knee. I’m probably at the point here I need to take a break and go back to exercises which will encourage better quality movement. I have spasticity in gastrocnemius plantar flexors and also extensor hallucis longus, not which I get 3 monthly botulinum toxin injections. Thank you for your videos.

Thanks for this video & this important series! I was very active before the (severe) stroke from a brain bleed at 49. I exercised & coached my kids’ soccer teams. I averaged 14,000 steps/day, according to my Fitbit. I think my fitness level & determination to get back on the soccer field have helped in my recovery. My daily step count is a bit lower, but averaging 9,000 steps/day these days (4+ years later). I know I need to work on improving my form, which is one of the things about your content I appreciate most! Thanks, Tara! 🙏🏼

With focus and exercise I have better control over that fear now. Also, doing more shoulder stretches allows me to breath better & stand straight instead of tight hunching over and letting affected arm curl upwards.

This week, I’ve tried some of these exercises. I certainly have my challenges, but interestingly, my balance isn’t too bad. But, one of the exercises that was especially challenging was standing on foam with my feet in a straight line. That’s one I definitely need to work on! 😊

I’ll add another reason: I’m super self conscious of my spastic gait , and it’s less noticeable when i walk slower. It’s really affecting my self esteem 😞

Thank you so much as always for your information I’m one of those people that is afraid to get caught out I have arthritis in hips and knees and it’s a struggle with the pain that I have but since the stroke it’s not as bad on my effected side which is my right side as it was but long distance walking is something else and I do try ❤️

It's been 3 years now and I still suffer from fatigue after the stroke. Is there anything else I can do to help this ? No one understands the fatigue. It's so frustrating

This is far and away the best specific info on rehabbing from a stroke. I am 6 years post CVA and I keep improving, stronger, longer range, stopping pain. Especially helpful on understanding and maintaining a wise balance between staying dedicated to increasing your movement vs developing bad habits because we settle for the uncoordinated pattern movements we get back first after the CVA. We may give up because It seems like a drop foot will never improve so we walk on it and the ankle gets sore, but the proper exercises might make it improve if we listen to her and try them. Hi Tara, I really appreciate you doing these videos. At the age of 51, I had a basler artery stroke in July of 2020 that affected my center line and left side. I have been working out with different trainers at the gym 2x a week. My issue in the last few month has been nerve pain and heaviness in my left leg. I went from walking using a walking stick for 40 minutes 3 days a week to now about 40 minutes a week total because of nerve pain. The nerve pain does not hurt to the touch, per se, but just presents as pain in general in my leg and arm. Any suggestions on what I can do for this?

Great video! I can never walk quickly enough to the point to get across the street before the crosswalk timers due to my hemiplegia with spasticity and balance issues but I still have learned to walk a mile and joined a gym to keep up my strength. I love the elliptical, I feel like I’m running! Movement is SO important or I’ll get worse. Done that been there. It’s much harder to get back what I lose when I stop so I try to keep going!”

i started to walk by first leaning out of a chair to pick paper up one goal plus another meant standing to stepping to walking i’m not fast or perfect but j get there safely

Thank you, I cane walk slowly with a level of confidence indoors (home and local YMCA). The outside elements (sun, wind, more challenging terrain) make walking look totally different. I need to start back some basics of balance and distractions to make an improvement, I think! ,

I’m using a cane and have became dependent. Had blood clot on brain at 14 years old. Now I’m 63. Had drop foot, Paralysis in my left leg. Did fine at walking other than kick my left toe into the ground every once in awhile. As I got older I started getting real stiff legs. Physical therapy did wonders 10 years ago. I’m at my worst now. Need serious help.

I love your videos! I have psoriatic arthritis instead of having had a stroke, but I find that your videos are extremely helpful in addressing my antalgic gait. At 00:54, though, please correct "Tobais" on screen to "Tobias" -- At least that's now it's spelled in another video of yours, and I believe that is how you verbally identify yourself. You might want to check all your videos for this mistake. I have come across at least two that have it.

Thanks for this series! I’m really needing motivation to increase steps and get more healthy. And I’ve finally come to terms with the fact that sometimes it’s best that I wear that AFO. Big thing for me. Your video on that made me try it again.

o bought a ground reaction AFO about 5 years ago and it has made a dramatic decrease in my fatigue! it wasnt cheap but worth every penny!!im 10 years post. severe spascity and left neglect. what are your favorite AFOs? do u suggest wearing something on your foot at noght?

i love love your videos❤️i have MS and scoliosis and i can still walk!! this year i would actually like to go inside a store🙂. i have always heard that the trekking poles are superior to the use of a cane however i am wondering if that is always true-i seem to do better with a cane. and that could all be in my head….if you have time I’d love to know what are your thoughts are🙂

Hi. I use the poles on my best days. Lightweight balance. If I really need strong support, I lean into the cane. I think the the poles encourage better posture.

would you suggest swimming to someone who has hip arthritis and cannot walk fast,? so in order to get cardio, the only option left is swimming to avoid the hip pain.

I had a stroke 3 years back. I am 79 year old female. I do have some walking setbacks. I am able to walk with cane outdoor parking lot which is backside of my house. My left side was affected. I do walk; but some time I drag my left foot. Not able to lift the foot high enough similar to the right foot. I walk 3 rounds about 1.3 miles in an hour. The walking is enough do you think? Any suggestion Thanks

I had an ischemic stroke in October 2022 and have been doing PT & OT ever since. It has most affected my left arm and hand. My legs and body feel heavy but i don't have any of the problems that you illustrated, I have pretty good balance and knee bending is not a problem. I think that I am walking correctly with good quality but my whole body feels heavy. Is this normal? Any suggestions? I have watched many of your video's and really enjoy them.

I can walk but I have a tendency to drag my left foot. My big toe is stiff while the others curl if I apply a lot of pressure. Can you tell me what to do to correct this?

I am not walking much because my toes curl downward when I do. It is painful. Stroke left side affected.

I feel stiffness in muscle around my neck and shoulders while I was walking, and I don’t perspire that much as when I was not a stroke.What I did incorrectly?

Hi! I had my stroke years back and i am on walker since, but when i read your vlog about trying to walk again i was able to do little baby steps without my walker, but i can feel heaviness on my head whenever i try to do it, Please Help! thnks so much! -Gerein

I use a walker. My stroke happened just before Covid became an issue, so l haven’t really tried to do much community walking. Mostly I walk in the house with the walker, and some wall walking, too. When I walk slowly I can usually keep my left leg from going into hyper extension or collapsing, but I don’t know what I should do to get my heart rate up for aerobic help.

I walk 5,000 steps daily indoors just getting around my house going up and down the stairs I also cyle every day for 90 mins on my recumbent bike

Hi Tara I have been trying to walk after a stroke but I can't seem to be able to walk without my walker. I had the undiagnosed stroke in 2017. What could be holding me back

I want to go back to running, but it has been a month that I had my stroke. Dr want me to take it easy, I can walk 5 km without assistance, mobility is good, just my left hand has these pins and neddles.

I'm 42 I've had my stroke at 40. I was doing really good until about Oct of this year. My energy level went way down even my speech is bad. Its hard for me to get out of bed. I recently had another MRI and EGG those came back good. So I don't know why I'm feeling like this?

Hi Wendy! Thank you for sharing. go to the YT search bar and type "rehab hq and fatigue". It might help but I am glad to hear you went to see your MD regarding this. Also necessary to rule out a serious medical condition when it comes to unexplained fatigue.

I had a stroke just over a year ago. I can walk short distances (150 meters) but then need to rest a while. My question is: Has the stroke affected not only my arm and leg on the right side, but also internal organs such as my lungs. It would make sense to me because I’m not overweight.

Cervical fusion C5-C6 and C3-C4, with myelopathy causing poor ankle proprioception.
