So the chance of having a card that is effectively yawgmoth (yawg or a tutor effect) in your opening hand is actually the slightest bit higher in the yorion list (less than a 10th of a percent) considering 15 successes in 80 cards vs 11 in 60. Getting yawgmoth straight up is about an 8-9% difference though. The question then becomes: how much more grindy and versatile do I actually need to be as a yawgmoth deck?

I always find that drawing Yawgmoth itself is always the best, and having the tutors for silver bullets is more powerful. Adding W to the mana base hurts, too. I’m definitely a bigger fan of the classic list, but I enjoy seeing the archetype played, anyway! Especially by the Duke. One final point, though: I don’t believe this deck is going to be an option forever, unlike classic, because I suspect Yorion will get hit with the banhammer before too long. It’s only a matter of time before WotC cleans up the last of the companions in modern, I feel. That makes it less enticing.

Man, this deck really wants Birthing Pod. I know that it's a good ban for modern, but those decks were so much fun to play.

@@ostarakonrad9907 I don't think it is the speed of the format that's the issue. Birthing pod just made decks like this (and more degenerate) extremely consistent. Idk tho, Force of Vigor would be really good against it, but it might not be enough to keep it in check. Maybe one day though.
