Hey, one of the devs(and a long time fan) here Thanks for covering our game, despite the overall negative experience that you did have. I would not argue with your critique, most of the points you did make come either from a quality actually not being there or just poorly communicated stuff. I would only mention couple of things: this is an indie game made by a very small team with no publisher or external funding. We released it with just having 5 developers in the team. Even smaller scale MMOs like the mentioned MO2 had 30+ team members during its' development. So I'm not sure that we truly represent the market and the overall genre getting worse :) The project is far from finished, but during playtests and EA we garnered a small and dedicated community thanks to which we can upscale the team and continue developing the game. In 40 days since EA start we already made 6 patches fixing/changing a lot of stuff eachm and we are not going to slow down. I hope we will be able to impress you with our progress in several months. And if you ever feel that influencing an MMO game's design or development process is fun for you I can make that happen. We are truly indie, so it's really easy for us, no corporate entities getting in a way.

you know what ive noticed? "Hardcore" MMOs tend to just be lazy MMOs. If you want a hardcore playerbase, you have to ease them into the "hard" core of your game. You cant just throw players into a world, not tell them jack and expect them to figure everything out, including what stats do. If your tutorial is a lazy ass system of "pick up item, attack, congrats get out there" - you havent done a tutorial. If your tutorial is a lazy ass system of text-dump - you havent done a tutorial. Hardcore MMOs need to give their players an incentive to try and become hardcore. if you cant do that, your game probably isnt as good as you think it is.

My problem with Early Access and looooong Alphas/Betas is that the devs tend to hyper focus on their current audience, an audience with a focus that tends to shift as they (essentially) replay the same game over and over. Then when the game finally comes out, the new-player experience ends up being flawed because the game has been tailored to the customers who have been replaying it in and out for months or years. This often means a mediocre early-game experience, a huge skill-ceiling to 100% it, and maybe a few other shenanigans. Still, those problems seem small when the alternative is that the game wouldn't exist at all. That being said, if someone said that this game was 1.0 after years of early access I would believe it.

How is it that when I looked upon the logo and first frames of the video I could predict that it would be sitting in the mixed reviews?

Nothing better than dry British humour and sarcasm, a lot of the time people don't know if we're being sarcastic or not it's just our default 😂

game is expensive but I don't think it's actually as bad as you make it look here.

I mean, many of the things that peon is pointing out is litterally on the screen. And just by watching this video, i saw that while being in first person the crosshair indicates whatever an object is interactable, phys & magical level is on the screen below the hotbar.

Good NPCs like Kenshi is needed to jumpstart a new, refeshing MMO. Not braindead PvE, not "hardcore" PvP. Just a world that you genuinely want to be in and can have fun by yourself or with others. NPCs that actually participate and contribute in the world around you rather than just stand in their spawn zone waiting for you to kill them, or three bosses just sitting in a dungeon waiting for someone to defeat them.

Yea. Looks like Throne and Liberty is the only relevant MMO this year basically New World 2.
