I know this wont be for everyone since velvets overall design was never truly the problem her lore and references just made it impossible to design something that matched obviously characters dont have to look what there referenced as but it should be like 50% obvious what was used velvets design for me does not hint to anything used which sucks cause the is pretty cute so yeah I had to reimagine her no amount of mixing and matching was gonna convey what she does is or was hopefully that all made some sense but yeah this is what I try to teach to y'all about the importance of character design

It’s been stated that how a sinner looks is also based on two other factors, what they look like when they were human, and how they died. So judging the character design entirely on the lore of what they do is kinda unfair imo.

I just think that velvet is more like the in between to explain all the stuff they do, and why they for some reason say their the backbone of the vs, they do all the extra stuff that could be done that isn't vox's tech, or vals movies, basically doing a bunch of stuff so its no longer as easy to fire her, she gets fired they lose potions, fashion department, social media department, and a slew of others, to the point they just leave stuff they don't want to do to her, like the meeting in ep 3

@@LovesArt23 But if anything, it kinda plays into your characterization of Velvet here - she's hyperactive, a busybody that manages multiple resources for the V's to exploit (perhaps serving as a liason to hell's various brands of clothing and products, allowing Vox to take over) - - A POSSIBLE chemist that has knowledge in various "snake-oil-esque" products that the newer generation's becoming accustomed to, as constantly advertised, experimented-on, and shown it's progression (as a product) on tiktok. Like the sort of beauty products you'd purchase of amazon in desperation, or customizable when it wouldn't even work at al... Hell they could be a discount knockoff of LEVIATHAN'S over-priced products. And on top of all that, she can see the future to an extent. Vox and Valentino HAVE to respect her, even if they may treat her as somewhat beneath them, rather selectively during their downtime. Because she's terrifying: she's been running paces around all of them for several years now, and there's no signs of her stopping. That sort of energy in Hell of all places is rare, and it scared quite a few people. And she knows how to play them just the same. Two more thoughts. Firstly, Velvette could be making use of the rift between Valentino and Vox - both of whom have become big enough for their egos to skyrocket, and are actively in a toxic relationship (both with their own extreme issues, perhaps not abusive though Valentino is clearly exhibiting THOSE tendencies), and so they're often busy infighting over the more haphazard discrepancies. Enough for her to take advantage of the chaos how she'd like - whether that's as a mediator, an instigator, or just exploiting the resulting holes in the business. Second, I like to imagine that the prior two versions of Velvette that you created, could perhaps be PROXY robots, that are uniquely customized and made, so there's just a dozen or so, for Vox to have Velvette get snuck into other rings of hell. And since they're technically NOT the same person (maybe each robot could havve one of Velvette's sentient eyes inside to mimic her personality while relaying memories and real-time experiences), this does fly under the radar for illegal activity - or at least, the other sins think it's a joke, and allow her presence depending on the Sins themselves. Not realizing how technology is rapidly advancing - and Velvette herself able to promote, incite strife, and do all sorts of wicked shenanigans with this new access to the other rings of hell. But most importantly, Velvette is SO good at marketing herself, she CAN'T JUST BE OUTRIGHT STRUCK DOWN. as her online following is so high and frenzied (not necessarily loyal, but just a sort of insane fanbase and overall at-breaking-point audience), that the sins can't just get rid of her, for THOSE specific crimes. Because the ensuing chaos, would be UNREAL... Well, on paper, they'd tell Lucifer they're sparing him the headache of riots in his city. which he wouldn't actually care about either way. CAUSE HE'D JUST GET RID OF HER LMAO - buuuut in actuality? many of them have made deals WITH Velvette herself. Deals that even with Vox possibly listening in, Velvette has higher understanding of, and inside-deals to boot. Or at least backdoor deals, with someone who knows the sins. I would really love to see your keshabee character be manipulated by this little gremlin - someone who matches her energy, surpasses it, arguably boosts her highs and overall popularity outside her own ring with all it's conflicting personalities and opinions on her... and yet does NOT have her best interests at heart. Something keshabe KNOWS deep down, has that inkling of truth to trace just by instinct, just by a bit. But she just can't understand what it really means to be a sinner like that, because Velvette? Is just having the time of her LIFE. And yeah, her schemes ABSOLUTELY fly under the radar, because no one either takes her seriously enough, or she has straight-up deals with them, and neither party is willing to back off. She's a go-getter, and to me I think she should DEFINITELY be the most dangerous of the Vees. The kind of character that has that slow burn in the reveal to their villainy, scarce moments to be revealed here and there, and by like season 3 she's a real threat, after the other two have been trounced in some sort of way. She's their saving grace. And she's been winning in the background, all along... IRONIC, cause this girl does NOT settle for the background. Not for long. The last bit got quite fanficky lol - but character has SO much potential, with just the energy you brought with the design, and I love it. Amazing work as per usual

10:27 Yeah, I know that exhausted feeling. Getting married to an idea for a character is a big pitfall for any designer, which I think is the biggest issue with Velvet: Too many ideas with none of them being let go of. Flexibility is an important part of any good character design, and that means cutting out anything that can muddy the main idea you want to communicate with said character, no matter how great of an idea you think it was when you started. If it ultimately doesn't work, you have to let it go if you want the design to reach its full potential. It's great when you have a lot of good ideas for a single character. Not so great when you realize you need to cut some of them out to actually make the design work XD

Maybe pointing out her trying to inflate her influence with the Vees in front of others but is actually worried of her position. I think this design fits her so well!!! She looks more like Velvet: the techie of the Vee’s that’s an obnoxious child I think her hair now is so cute, along with the dark pinks and aqua!!! Her character was fun as a side, but to me, it seemed like she was set up for a bigger role than she actually got Valentino controls the sex market, Vox controls the tech stuff, and Velvet is just……..there ig? I know this is a bit out there, but I love the fact that Velvet is British, not just British but her specific accent is one that sounds more southern where most influences in the UK are. Also her accent reminds me so much of the girls who go on Love Island and I think that captures Velvet perfectly because most people go on that show for the limelight and most of them become social media stars at the end. I know it seems random but I think it's a subtle touch that emphasis her character.

Your design of Velvette (and the other V's) fixed a very huge problem I had with their OG look: they didn't stand out enough. If I walked down the street of Hell and saw OG Vel and your reimagined Vel walking together, my eyes are going to be drawn to your Vel. Like who designs a Overlords to blend into their enviroment, especially when said Overlords want to be in the public eye? I also couldn't stand how we got a black character yet she has the usual grey toned skin, no black features aside from her fro which was shown in a episode where she didn't even speak 💀 Besides that, I'm VERY thankful that you did her justice! Hazbin Hotel cooked for 4 years and it’s still raw. It feels like the entirety of the first season was just the rough draft. Charlie being the princess of Hell and yet not knowing how to act around her people? Being naive to the point of not fully knowing what cannibal town was about? If anything, we should have been learning the lore of hell through Vaggie from Charlie. Have Vaggie not know what hells about since she’s been an Angel and has only been in hell a few years. Have the reason Charlie was THE ONLY FUCKIN PERSON THAT DIDNT PUT TWO AND TWO TOGETHER THAT HEY MAYBE MY GF IS AN ANGEL be because they just started dating. Like… the story is there it’s just not being used in a cohesive and frankly a narratively enthralling way.

i've seen still using the # thing in conversation in a strictly joking way and the one thing i can be certain of canon velvet is that she is almost certainly a composite character, she's got enough elements to fill out a minimum of 2 characters and a max of one small business worth of characters (designer, coordinator, model, spokesperson, and barkeep)

I agree with you completely, the lore behind Velvet(te) is super confusing! Truth be told, I always imagined she'd be more like a bratty late teen social influencer compared to an early thirties fashion designer. Love the idea about the third eye to see into the future trends! I wonder what would happen if her eye ended up getting injured at some point and she couldn't see what trends are popular? Would she have to make up random bs about what's future trending and if so, would sinner's actually go along with it?

Finally finished the video! God- I love this design so much!! Even though you had to complete rewrite her a bit to make her design work- Which, you shouldn’t have to but Velvette was definitely a multi flavored cake that was just too much- This Velvette works with the info we know, and still feels like the Velvette the show is trying to convey! She’s a trend setter, and a valuable part of the Vees!!

Ngl I skipped to the end for now cause I left my headphones at home :P but I'm just so glad you kept the seafoam (which you call mint lol, I always forget) and didn't go with cyan 😌 the eyeballs are still absolutely fantastic, the tail's an interesting addition, and the stockings are super cute! Did you know that Vel's basically-oldest design had eyes on bows in her hair? I miss the eyes on demon designs I really do but great you saw how important they are anyways ! 🤣🤣🤣 (that old design also had the charm of many of Viv's older designs mainly including Zoophobia, there was just more basic care put into everything yknow? even if the design itself was too old looking it was a great start LOL) Also I like looking up Avatar Catalog fits in Roblox for extra inspiration sometimes ! XD (They have a LOOT of fits from a simple range of items !)

I love this new design and reimagined! While I was glad to see Velvet did get outfit changes I was expecting something more like the character "Yas" from Ralph breaks the internet where every scene she is in she gets a different look for sorta representing trends and how fast they change. But in show Velvet personally I liked her finale outfit the most just because it did feel kinda younger and her fluffy hair (so cute). Now your design and reimagined, I feel like it is more cohesive and she strikes me more as one of those young adults who think they are the Meryl Streep of the fashion world when really they just have an Etsy shop and sell outfits they have made and then go on to do the fast fashion thing.

I love this design so much it really really fits the concept you’re going for. Although the Velvet in the show I think isn’t as offensive to me designed wise and characterizes because they’re really are people in their 30s who act like teenagers because they want to live vicariously through their Internet career. I’ve definitely seen characters like that in real life, and it would make sense that one of the older influencers would die first and start the trend in hell cause it seems like hell is behind modern times, due to the fact of the people down, there are typically the generation or older.

I really love this version of velvet, like the colors and the look of everything just looks so good. I really like the idea of her being a v-tuber or the eyes. I looked back at the old video you did on velvet a while back, and I really prefer this design. For some reason the old design just looks off to me for some reason. I think it was the head, but Idk. I also really love the other outfits you gave her, I drew fanart of this velvet when I was watching the old velvet. I said this enough times, but I love it so much, and the new ideas you gave her that I feel like works better than what she was given in the show.
