Man you’ve slowly become my favorite ow creator. You’re just so nuanced about your opinions, i think you’re very reasonable about changes, about characters being broken or not, and you’re reasonable about how you react to things. It’s just sad that most content creators just make videos about themselves crying and complaining and even if they have some points it gets exhausting. Thanks for all your yapping, we love it 🎉

Filled out a few surveys before - They start off asking what your experience is like (how long you have played, how often you play, what modes you play and how often.) Then they go into likes/dislikes (mechanics, modes, pain points.) Then they do the typical "what do you think we can improve" question. One of the interesting parts was a series of questions around your perceived strength of each role was as well as detailing what you thought was needed from each role to have a successful game. My perception was the survey was designed around getting info from people from a range of skill divisions and collating that to get a better picture of the comp & QP playerbases'. I believe the tank changes & later the DPS changes were a direct result of these sorts of surveys.

I think Moira needs some kind of utility, the current design of her is very unsustainable. She was affected more than other heroes due to the dps passive from season 9, so I think damage reduction on her heal orb could be something worth re-visiting. A very fun way of not only improving her skill ceiling, but also giving her back her more fun playstyle would be yellow orb healing less, but applying a minor damage reduction to whatever it is healing. This change would make it more valuable to keep an orb in an area rather than just throwing it at your tank, and correct orb bounces need a lot of map knowledge. Not only that, but the dps passive has destroyed Moiras drain-offtank playstyle which made her a really unique and fun pick. Now she's just a midrange dps and healer.

I am not surprised that they think Mauga is weak in ranked. I've played him for several seasons now, and I think he's in his worst state at the moment. He's at a point where I am almost always better off playing Dva or Zarya. Unfortunately, he was so strong at the start, that the community perception hasn't recalibrated to his current state. The recent data on pick rates and win rates on OverBuff doesn't lie.

Symmetra player here! Definitely better, but all the pain points are the same. Before the buff, you never ever, ever used beam on a squishy unless it was already lvl3. Now, you can, but still not the best idea against constantly mobile heroes like Genji or Tracer. The HP buff has had an arguably larger effect. This shouldn't be surprising; unconditional buffs makes the hero objectively better than before. The paint points. 1. If you're melting the enemy tank, if you try to TP behind and start melting the backline (because beaming the tank is kinda boring, and you need to deal with supports), you might go back down to lvl2 from aiming the TP then waiting for it to deploy and you can't waste time setting up turrets. You're discouraged from using your cool abilities. Beaming is very binary. You either commit to beaming and risk your still very squishy self on whether or not you receive resources from your team OR you can't beam. At all. If you try, and don't get the resources, you flail around doing nothing then die. 2. Orbs are still more consistent than beam. They always deal mediocre damage (as opposed to lvl1 beam's tickle damage) and don't demand resources from your team to make work. Orbs are what let Symm try to make her own plays. But they take too long to charge for the damage they deal and are needlessly slow. So you try to make plays with them, but you can't even reliably win when duelling supports. But you're forced to use them, because the game is a hero shooter; majority of the time, fights take place more than 12m away form you as everyone is using pew-pew bullet guns. 3. Turrets don't do anything outside defending a static point. Their cooldown is too long to keep redistributing them while on the move. They're travel speed and set-up time want you to set them up before a fight begins, but you lose so much CD time (30 seconds!) if you don't predict perfectly. If you do, turrets are broken instantly before they can get meaningful damage out so you aren't even rewarded for being correct. Further, a single turret kind of can't do anything on its own. You need at least two, which defeats the purpose of having three. Unless you want to monitor a flank route, but again, that's really only for point defence. Turrets can't even help in a 1v1 because if you set one up as the duel begins, you lose time better spent charging up your beam or and orb. *BONUS NUMBER 4* HER *HEAD* IS TOO. GODDAMN. *BIG.*

When I play DPS, I mostly like to play sym but ever since climbing to Diamond it has been very hard to do anything with her. Everyone is a lot smarter about not getting too close to your beam and so you have to rely on your alternative fire. I used to think orbs were pretty good when most heroes were 200 HP, but with the health update they're not nearly as reliable. Your turrets are also not a good source of damage since they die very quickly. So it just feels like Sym does pretty much nothing if you can't get up close to anyone. They could buff the orbs to do more damage, but I think they're trying to avoid doing that (since that's part of the reason they did the big health thing). Maybe they could buff teleporter to have more health or have a shorter cooldown / higher uptime to improve flanking and backline pressure, give turrets more health or replace them with a better damage/utility tool. I also somewhat miss Sym's projected barrier that would travel in front of her but I know they would never do that again. I also had an experimental idea where your orbs would charge your primary fire somewhat if you landed direct hits too but not too sure about that. Idk, but she doesn't feel very strong or reliable as a dps still

Personally I think the splash from the orbs makes up for them being a bit finicky. It's very fulfilling to land an orb on ~4 enemies and see the eneym team group health just instantly plummet. The turrets are very situational and sort of "luck" based, but they can also be fantastic clean-up tools and viable distractions if you can find a second to use them during a fight rather than before/after. There've been a couple time where the fight was just me, a tank Roadhog and an Ana, and I was able to beam down the Hog and then spam turrets to help me with the Ana. The slowdown is what they're really good for; I think I average around 2-3 turret final-blows per game, and usually ~15 rewarded eliminations. That said, I don't have high hopes for 2v1ing a Moira and a Doomfist. Sym's a very team-oriented character, and I think she's pretty good at that in this moment. :D

@@kendragon7 I think looking at turrets could help Sym out a lot. They are her worst ability by far, and their constant failure to do anything important means Sym often feels like she only has one ability (TP) and at a major disadvantage compared to every other hero. I think it would be nice is turrets got a power boost, but were condensed into just two turrets. 8 second cooldown, 100/125 HP. My greatest wish is for Sym to get a whole kit overhaul that turns her into a hybrid between Sombra and Soldier, attacking from highground at an off-angle or from the flank. But everyone's attached to Sym as a brawler, even through turrets just don't fit into that style well.

I don’t play a lot of Sym but she definitely intrigues me. Do you think it would feel better if the time it takes for her primary to go down a lvl without hitting anything was longer, but in return once it starts ramping down it would so quicker?

@@Alexandroid_ Beam level going down isn't a big problem that comes up often. Its just still one issue in the large pile. Making lvl3 beam last longer won't actually fix its primary issues, which are: having very short range, and not dealing meaningful damage in the first 0.75s of shooting. Nor would it touch beam's secondary issues: being hungry for team resources and not working well with turrets. Getting lvl3 isn't impossible, staying lvl3 isn't impossible. Surviving within the 12m range, and enemies staying with the 12m range is. However, since beam has pretty high damage at lvl3, increasing its range allows Sym too easily apply too much pressure.

He vetted some questions through his community and with Alec in advance re subjects they can and can't talk about. Spilo isn't having an Alec Dawson roast, he's doing an interview. I think if you're going to give winston some more power output i think right click and primalare the way to go since those are the higher skill epression abilities in his kit. You wouldn't want to give him something silly like more jump distance or more damage on his left click. But maybe more range and damage on his right click at the cost of a smaller projectile size could be pretty cool.

Alec already said they're looking at the charge speed for the secondary, which is probably one of the only pain points in his kit. It's annoyingly slow for very lackluster damage. Rarely ever useful for its actual intended purpose (finishing a 1HP squishy that's just out of your range) and more for just mediocre poke. More of a quality of life improvement than pure buff.

That space ranger tease could be speed boost, but it could also be fire rate increase. It has something to do with speed obviously, but currently three heros provide speed boosts to allies. They are JQ with her shout, Lucio with his aura, and Kiriko with her ult. However only one hero has fire rate increase and that’s kiriko, it could be that.

Could be vertical team movement, the idea of which I kind of like if it's something like a deployable jump pad which would make it a ton more useful than petal platform imo since PP easily leaves a lot of the team behind (and gets stuck on stuff a LOT.) Call it an anti gravity field to make it space themed lol. Hell, it also could be a deployable healing field, since only Soldier brings anything like that.

I think a good change to hanzo could be something like junk had a while back where it does more or less dmg based on the distance between the person they hit for example he could do 125 within 15m and after that it's back to 120 this would make him able to 1 shot again but without the annoyance of getting 1 shot from across the map

Just give Hanzo damage drop off (you know, like arrows have in real life) and allow one shots within a certain range, say 20m. Being logged at close range was never the issue, it was the cross map Hail Mary ctrl-alt-del arrows that felt awful to play against. Force him to get closer for the one shots and it wouldn't be a problem.

Hmm, I'm not entirely sure that Space Rangers utility is going to be speed boost (or at least I hope not.) JQ kind of brings a speed boost, so that doesn't really fit with "only one other hero brings this." Since JQ also has anti heal, it can't be that either. Can't be damage boost (nano damage boosts.) It could be bringing a form of team vertical movement which only LW currently brings. Maybe an "anti gravity field" (since she's space themed) where she can deploy a jump pad kind of thing, which would be SO much better than petal platform with all it's limitations including that it very easliy leaves team members behind. It could be heal boost buff, res, or cleanse, all of which would probably cause community outcry... but then again name a support ability that WON'T create community outcry. At one point or another there's been a vocal crusade against nearly every support ability in existence.

"Does the team prioritize balancing heroes that are more unpopular?" he kinda did answer it at least to me its sounds like he did. "It differs greatly between heroes." So its not necessarily based on popularity but I feel like he's also saying how the community feels in general about what is meta affects the prioritization. "If you see it once in every x amount.. it's okay, it doesn't need to be changed". Going back to some of the other questions asked about skill ceiling, I think this answer takes that into consideration which the majority of the community seems to agree on as well. If high skill ceiling heroes are meta not many people complain but if its low skill ceiling heroes that's when the community starts to dislike the metas/heroes that are troublesome. sorry if its too wordy

Real. Obv its worse in ranked. I play ball for literally 1 fight and the enemy tank goes hog. This sadly isn't even an exaggeration, it happened to me earlier today. Funny thing is if you play ball well enough you can even win against the worst comps like hog cass sombra ana brig. And I make fun of them for it everytime I manage to still win.

KarQ, the little people have no power in the community, we NEED you and other large overwatch content creators to vouch for 6v6, it doesn't matter how powerful tanks are when all you can do is counter swap, an easy fix for double shield is to makes two categories, shield tank, and non shield tank, then make it when two shield tanks are selected reduce shield health by 60% overwatch won't survive 5v5, we need to address this problem PLEASE KARQ YOU HAVE THE POWER TO FIGHT FOR US

I actually agree on the point of 3 day trail of new heroes being a bad thing, it not only kills the hype for the character but it also give a incorrect feedback because of the short time players have to truly understand how it should be played, add to that the fact that the new hero is in ranked at release and you have a recipe for disaster. Even if the new hero comes out broken at release I think its much better to have it be balanced after 2 weeks before being added to ranked then it is just after 3 days, plus IMO even if the character is busted in quick play its not that bad since everyone will have access to it and the game should first be fun before its balance.

In quick play (on console) I have noticed way more players playing symmetra, which I find odd, and this started before season 11.

Also a console player here, with a good amount of hours on Symm, shes always been popular in my MMR for control (and flashpoint since they added that) but otherwise shes not picked much in my experience. After season 11, I've seen people force her more but its a coinflip whether it goes well or not. The Mercy spike tho, now thats been mostly disastrous lmao 😅

Love him on the Group Up podcast! He just articulates his points very well while also being pretty nuanced. I like how he'll argue for what he thinks is realistic to happen , a compromise of sorts, rather than purely what he wants. I also like how hes fine with having a different opinion than the rest of the cast, like when they were talking about Symm lol.

The only issue I have with Reaper is that his tp feels too clunky & slow to use while mid fight. It would be cool if they implement the kiriko community server blink into his kit & make it a bit slower. If you double tap input you can choose where you want to tp as well❤ ❤❤❤

"Mauga was average during trial." I'm taking "average" to mean balanced, and man that was exactly my impression during the trial. All the community whining that he was "weak,' was CLEARLY both overblown AND a result of people only playing him "all in" and getting melted, when he had the range damage to play corners and cover and only go all in once a pick or two had been secured and an opening existed. The community (and especially the tank community, who is ALWAYS asking for more) lobbied for buffs, got them, and made ALL OF US regret it when Mauga was both OP and in every game for weeks after.

I agree with basically everything you said but easy on "the tank cimmunity always asking for more" im a support main and it really started with us asking for more, so theres that. But also, have you played tank? It's such a miserable role, of course they ask for more. Honestly, i was all in on 5v5 but even im at a point where like maybe we should at least have an arcade 6v6 mode or something cz 1 tank clearly has a lot of issues and were constantly trying to balance around that fact.

@@dyllwill IMO, the reason tank is in the state it's in is because it's already too powerful. Of course it's a miserable experience to play tank, the only way to DEAL with tanks is to use every tool you can against them. It started with using debuffs, CC, anti-healing, sleep, discord, etc to try to keep them at bay. When literally ALL of that got nerfs, or tanks got special resistences/durations for those things, players went to the only other tools they had available: counter pick the tank so hard they have to swap off. Because tanks got so buffed they feel like they live forever and don't die UNLESS you counter pick them AND then punish them harshly for even the tiniest mistakes. You don't make tank more fun to play by piling on more buffs, because the more they do so the more the enemy team HAS to pour resources into countering them at every opportunity. You make tank more fun by REDUCING their power. Make them no more relevant than any other member of the team, then it won't make sense to use all your resources on them, swap off the hero you WANT to play just to counter them, etc. I will die on this hill, there ARE NO BUFFS that makes tanks feel good to play that won't make the other roles utterly miserable and unplayable at this point.

It was a mistake making tanks "mini bosses." For one, it means your team is at a significant disadvantage when the "power role" player is not that good yet. That sucks for every member of the team. Secondly, when one player is a bigger portion of the enemy team's power, it just makes sense to do what you can to eliminate them quickly to give your team breathing room, ESPECIALLY when they combine both hard to kill with relatively high lethality in one role's kit, and also a fair amount of mobility for most of them making it hard to impossible to play out of their range consistently. The result is you have no choice but to try to burn the target down. It's like any MMO boss fight, if the damage is high and you know you can't sustain through it, your only option is NUKE IT DOWN FAST.

Hanzo IS good. as a Hanzo player the problem is he isn't very rewarding for high skill plays. the age old problem with Hanzo is that he can get a large amounts of value in boring ways, Spamzo should never be viable but it just is right now. (at least for diamond and below, i cant speak for higher ranks). the best version of Hanzo to me would be a character who wont get value spamming chokepoints, busting tanks or a mid range "hit scan" replacement. i think an interesting change that could be fun is a reward system for stealthy flanks. perhaps when he isn't in LOS of the enemy team he gets his one shot headshot back (with nerfs to his main arrow to compensate). this would allow for very fun plays while also being very punishing. this is just a rando idea and i can see how it could be unhealthy for a team game but characters like widow and Hanzo are somewhat inherently anti-team.

As a high rank DPS player and Hanzo main, I say this is why his value should come from primary fire being one-shot, and Storm Arrows should be reworked or hard nerfed to 3 or even 2 count with slower RoF to reward accuracy, rather than tank-busting or spamming. One-shots from Hanzo was never an issue. However, Storm Arrows were *because it is not a sniper ability.* It made him much too versatile. Introducing risk and encouraging/rewarding activity: Solved by introducing damage fall-off (damage minimum at 100 for Widow vs Hanzo) to force Hanzo into the close-mid range, while also removing random one-shots from extreme distance. This is a solid middle ground that would be beneficial for both sides alike, as well as nerf him for low ranks where he is problematic as they tend to spam from extreme distance.

If the devs don't agree with a rework, I think making the projectile size much smaller (perhaps 0.075 instead of 0.175, it would be a large nerf but would help against spamming and I think is required for one shot to come back) then giving him +5dmg to his main arrow then a rework to his storm arrow for "easier" DMG. similar to widows smg, not great but will allow for some defense to getting jumped. My idea for that rework would be 40dmg storm arrows but you get 10 instead of 5.

Falloff is a good idea, I thinking that, maybe copy ashes range and have 100-140 (to one shot 275hp heros while keeping mei and reaper safe which I think is good tbh)

@@afterthought9538 yeah I understand that, I believe s8 was 0.1 or 0.125, I think that size WAS reasonable but now that burst DMG is supposed to be less potent I think that one shots should be harder now than in s8, so I think widow and Hanzo should have their proj size quite small. (Widow should be old hitscan at true 0 proj size IMO)

Hot take: Overhealth should be converted to over-Armor for tanks only. This will help characters like doom and jq with the armor change, cuz I def feel the difference of no armor for them

Hanzo is NOT bad he's so good at assasinating, I used to hate 1-shot hanzo, but picked him up after the general health buff, and he still shreds, hitting flick shots can just 2 shot most players

They want to work on heroes that haven't been changed in a while. Yet junkrat has been left in the rear view mirror by devs for a long time. Instead they just work balance on the heroes like sojourn and kirako who just keep getting balance changes and roadhog who has a complete rework.

In all honesty, what they should do is just change all the passives. Healing reduction should be a global passive that scales from 5% at the start of the round to 20% at the 10 min mark to 35% at 15+ min and stay there. Tanks should get some CC mitigation to some extent as a bonus. DPS can keep increased reload speed. And Supports should receive ramping speed boosts at the same intervals of 5-10-15% at the 5-10-15 min marks per round. If they want to keep 5v5, then Tanks should also get some defense boost from primary fire but not abilities. And before people tell me this is too broken, Paladins literally already does this and more and that game is objectively a better experience when you are not playing on a shit server with a ton of bugs impacting gameplay.

It's all just semantic crap. You can use 15 different words to describe the same thing. Or 15 different phrases if you will. But it's all the same thing. It's manipulation. It's social engineering. The developers don't want us to think that newly released heroes are overpowered, they want us to instead use the language of safe side of strong, and as long as we agree to use that kind of baby language for little children, our complaints will never be heard or recognized. Because it's a lot harder to be in denial as a developer that you have launched an overpowered character, then it is to be in denial as a developer that you have launched a character who is on the safe side of strong. I hate these stupid California developers and all their semantic word play bullshit. You're not fooling me. Safe side of strong is just code for overpowered. We all know it.

yaknow, i really dislike feeling like they postpone some of these changes to keep us playing the game season by season. I understand that it will always work that way, but having changes to older maps should be EXPEDITED and then for s13 we get more than just "updates" and a single new map. Feels rather like gas lighting.
