Part of the issue is that Copyright in Japan is vastly different from the west. They basicly don't allow for free use even if no money is made. And you see this a lot on anime because it's such a popular thing in the west. Some publishers go hard on shutting down any use of their content and others don't go hard on it. And ofcourse false claims happen a lot. That is a very difficult issue to deal with. "Piratesoftware" has a clip on his stream on this recently.

If I may add a tiny bit to the Reiner discussion, in S4 when Pieck is nearly obliterated and she’s hiding in the house with Gabi, Falco and whatshisface, it’s mentioned that the Cart’s human body takes longer to regenerate than most titans, because she doesn’t have increased physical endurance like the Armored. So maybe due to having the Armored, Reiner’s human body is able to take an almost supernatural amount of punishment.

I just kind of accept that transferring consciousness to other parts of the body than the nape is one untold power of the armored titan. It kind of makes sense too, to have the identity of being armored goes further than just being covered in hard plates, but also making you much more difficult to kill than usual in terms of the standard weakness of titans (the nape).

Pieck also said in season 4 that the Armoured Titan's regenerative ability was better than hers, further implying that it's part of its special ability (I think she used the word durability). And, I mean Eren survives his head getting cut off and we're told all the Shifter's abilities come from the Founding Titan's abilities, so the Armoured Titan clearly just inherited that aspect as well. Personally, with everyone else's abilities (sans the Jaw), I think it would be lame if his ability was just the armour plates/hardening (especially since it seems like almost any of them can do the latter to some extent). It also just makes sense to me that he's a tank, in both senses of the word. (I don't like how exactly it was implemented/explained either, it definitely could have been done better, I'm just saying I like the underlying idea behind it)

There are lots of things you could do to make Reiner be able to survive that attack that tie in with the theme of "armored" that seems less random and out of the blue than "transferring consciousness to other parts of the body", which has nothing to do with any sense of the word "tank". But whatever, it's fine.

As for the part about Marco and Reiner, I can confirm that humor in bad situations can get DARK. Some of the jokes we made in the desert when I was enlisted will NEVER be mentioned. It's just how it goes. But for the "people realizing who it is", there is something that shows how it actually works. There's a story from the first Superman films. People knew that the Superman movies were being filmed in the area. Whenever Christopher Reeve went somewhere in his Superman costume, he would be swamped with fans. When he went out dressed as Clark Kent, almost no one even noticed him and he could have lunch in peace.

About Reiner's survivability, it always bothered me that the Armor titan is just kinda boring compared to the others. When the Attack, Female, Jaw, Warhammer, and even Beast titan are shown to use hardening, it makes the Armor seem less special. But I had an epiphany. During the battle at Liberio, when Pieck and Porco are trapped, it takes her longer to heal, since the Cart has relatively poor durability and healing. If you take that to mean that each shifter inherits aspects of their specific titans even when in human form, it goes a long way to explain things like Erin's adrenaline spike when he saves Armin from the Santa titan or Reiner's ridiculous plot armor. Personally, I don't have a problem with Reiner surviving stupid amounts of damage, frankly because it's an anime, where those kinds of 'how is he still alive' moments are common. I understand that AoT has a higher standard, and why people are upset with that, but it never bothered me much.

Did you know that when Isayama wrote that flashback about Marco, he was answering a question Tetsuro Araki (1st season director and, tbh, the main reason the series became so popular) made to him about why and how Marco died? I think that's why we see Annie in that flashback, she had been out of the story for so long when we see this that Isayama must have felt the need to remind us of her and take the opportunity to characterize her a little more. That’s also why the titan that kills Marco has Tetsuro Araki's face.

about the ear thing, I think there is a theory of it being pig's ears. The theory goes, that when we see Ymir opening the gate for pigs, there are three pigs(and there was something more about only one pig looking forward), and later the king says who let the pig out, clearly not pigs. So only one of them escaped, and who is a titan with pig ears that is not fat like a pig. Eren

23:18 Not to be that guy, but actually... I think there is a way for Reiner to survive this. Let me cook: In s4 (I think "Above and Below") Pieck says that you need to kill Titan shifter on the spot in order to remove them eg blowing their head off. So stabbing through the neck and heart should do it, right? Well, no, because this wouldn't cause you to lose conciousness on the spot, you'd still have some seconds to acknowledge what happened. Enough to trigger transformation. To lose conciousness, there needs to be a substantial reduction of blood supply to the brain. Brain is supplied by four main arteries: two carotid (positioned more in front of your neck) and two vertebral (in the back of the neck). Unless I'm completely blind, Levi severed spinal cord and vertebral arteries, cutting off 75% of the blood supply, but not all of it (frames of the blade in the neck are wanky, but considering that we hear Reiner scream as he hits the lightning button, I think front of his neck is mostly intact). There's blood flow to the brain, there's conciousness, Reiner lives. As for the fall, there are anecdotal cases of people surviving even higher falls and ironically, Levi might have helped Reiner. Severing spinal cord would disable mucsle control below the injury level, relaxing his muscles and effectively turning them into a pillow, softening the fall. Now, as Zeke said in "Midnight Sun", Reiner got unbelievably lucky. If you're not convinced about my rambling (RAMBLING, START THE RAMBLING lol), I completely get it. It's very convenient that Reiner survived this arc, but the don't call him Plot Armor Titan for nothing. That being said, I do think there was non zero chance that he could have made it even without the conciousness trasfer thing. I rest my case

After Ymir survived with her internal organs fucking scrambled and Bertholdt bounced back from having his throat slit, I didn’t even think Reiner did anything special to survive at first. I just assumed “well yeah, he’s obviously gonna heal before his brain dies.” The consciousness transfer wasn’t even that necessary of a detail. In fact, I dare say that scene only happened to set it up for later when his head is blown off, so that THAT doesn’t feel like an ass-pull.

I've thought about the whole Reiner not dying thing (both times) quite a bit. And i think there's a decent argument for why he survived Levi's attack. Obviously we know that the shifters individualality effects their respective titan. The titans look similar to the people they are, Zekes countless games of catch that surround his upbringing/forming of his ideals show up in his titans throwing abilities. Falcos urge to fly formed a bird jaw titan etc etc. I think the reverse is also true, the inherited titan effects the person as well. For example Armin growing considerably after inheriting the colossal (could be argued that he's a late bloomer, but I don't think it's coincidence) or Erens attitude matching the attack titans lust for freedom (obviously hard to tell what comes first with the time travel shenanigans). If that's true then you could argue that Reiner's human form could be extra durable even compared to other shifters as he inherited the colossal titan.

As far as the “how did Reiner survive the crazy fall” I think it’s worth noting how during the battle for Trost while Ymir, Crista, Bertholdt, and Reiner were all in the castle tower… Reiner stuck his entire arm into the mouth of a titan (admittedly it wasn’t a HUGE one but still) and walked away with a scratch after yeeting it out the window. There is definitely a solid argument that his bones are not normal human bones even when he isn’t in his titan form. Maybe they’re permanently hardened or crystallized?

21:50 I think that most people's problem with this (at the very least, my problem with that ability) is that it is never used again. Unlike Eren's hardening, or the Colossal's nuke power, this ability is never seen again in the whole series. The presentation itself makes it seem as a Deux Ex Machina to start off, the fact that we never get to know if it is exclusive to the Armored or not makes it worse, and the fact that we never see it happen again cements it as one of the few "bad writing" Attack on Titan has.

I think it should be said that the human brain can remain conscious for about 5-10 seconds after decapitation. Couple that with the fact that a titan shifter's first transformation is generally brought on by any physical harm, I'd dare say that even if Mikasa HAD fully cut Reiner's head off back on Wall Rose, he might have transformed anyway by means of pure instinct; with either his head alone, or his headless body being inside of his titan, either regrowing his head or his entire body, inside. What might have saved the Levi/Reiner moment, in retrospect, would be to have a tiny spark of titan energy crackle from Reiner's neck as Levi's blade went through.

Personally I don't hate that Reiner survived. I don't even hate the way he survived, I just feel it was a little unnecessary. First, it doesn't really come back in a way that makes complete sense. Sure there's that bit in Liberio but that also felt a little different. Like you said, he's the Armor. What makes him so formidable is he just tanks everything coming his way. He gets the most L's by far and he STILL was a terrifying enemy and also the MVP of the final final battle. Plus, I just love Reiner, and we wouldn't have gotten his amazing characterization in s4 if he died in s3. I honestly didn't need the transferring conciousness explanation, I feel like it was just kinda there and made things confusing. I would have been totally fine if he just survived because he's the armored, he survives anything, even a stab through the heart and neck. We also see that every shifter can take an insane amount of punishment, so for him to survive half his head being blown off doesn't even really bother me either. All of that being said, he did fall like 30+ meters. He should be jelly. No amount of Ackermann skill or conciousness transferring would change the fact that he should absolutely be paste on the ground. That being said, Armin survives practically the same feat so, yanno, you take what you can get

I always interpreted the title "Descent" as just Bertholdt's descent in the barrel down to Shiganshina. Bertholdt descending was shown extensively because he was about to blow up. Him joining the fight was also recognized by the scouts when he descended, and the danger of him deciding to transform and blow up was a dramatic and dangerous moment. And he decided not to blow up during his descent when he saw Reiner. Fun fact: this was the first Attack on Titan episode I watched.

The comparison with the Annie cocoon is actaully really interesting and something I hadn't considered. Both come as twists because the viewer lacks knowledge, both turn a huge W for the scouts into a less big W, both end with the scouts (and therefore the viewer) not really gaining a whole lot of information. I think for me the main reason I was totally happy with Annie's cocoon but pissed by this one has 3 parts: 1. Annie is still very much a win, the Female Titan is taken off the board, and they gain a bargaining chip even if they don't get to interrogate her. By contrast Reiner survives and escapes, and his survival means the scouts go from a dominating position to absolutely fucked in seconds. At the end of the fight they have absolutely nothing to show for the effor they put into killing Reiner (the rest of the battle is basically tangential to whether Reiner lives or dies here, so I don't count capturing Bertholdt) 2. Repeat offender - if Reiner had happened first I might have been more pissed by Annie when it happened, just because this is the second time a clear victory for the scouts through planning and execution fails to capture a Titan due to a lack of information. Doing it once felt great, really went along with the atmosphere of mystery and reinforced the idea that the Eldians were fighting a war where they were at a huge information disadvantage. Doing it twice just felt like an ass-pull 3. Torturing the Scouts against the flow of the narrative. Part of the draw of this anime is seeing the protagonists always being the underdogs and fighting for survival against impossible odds. In this situation it isn't surprising that they lose a lot, that people die, that they fail to achieve their goals. However by this point in the series the scouts aren't stumbling around blindly, they know enough to have devised genuinely good plans and they mostly understand the enemies arrayed against them in this specific battle. Narratively this should be the payoff moment, when the knowledge and power they have gained from surviving so far allows them to finally gain an upper hand and win. Ultimately this IS what happens with the overall battle (sort of, we gain the Colossal and Eren's basement but lose Erwin and practically all the manpower of the Scout regiment), but we don't know that when the Reiner survival moment happens, and unlike the other instances where taking losses was largely expected this feels like just torturing our favourite characters for no reason. They won, clearly and unequivocally, using the knowledge gained from previous encounters, only for it to be turned into a loss again because of information they lacked.

I think if Reiner had started to transform, but Levi interuppted him, yet he was just to late, because the transformation has already started, the scene would be way better, because everybody would say yeah make sense he already started to transform

doesn't look like levi cut through his spine just the fleshy part in his neck so spine wasn't cut and if he didn't remove the blade Reiner doesn't bleed out both wounds. The fall is a iffy thing. The Thunder spears seemed to of left Reiner's brain stem intact so him being "alive" isn't that much of a stretch his consciousness is another story.

Ability to transfer consciousness ! - That's a totally LEGIT means and ability for a Titan holder... why? because it's based off upon reality... - The titans are based off Parasite as we later know. In real life, there are parasites which attach to dead insects and are able to move the dead insects body (Ophiocordyceps unilateralis) (Zombie Parasite)... This is what Reiner does. - His head is blown off, but he has a titan head & brain, so he transfers his memory & consciousness to the titan brain. - The scouts could have ended him, if they had severed the titan head as well, but little do they know the mechanics. The first slice by Levi... He didn't sever his spine completely. There was enough attachment of his nervous system to the brain, just enough to transfer before dying.

I think it's also important to recognize the difference in scale between us as the viewers and the characters in-universe. We as the viewers can identify the titans for who they are because of how animation works, and how we need to see the subject of the frame. However, for the characters, the titans are HUGE. The sheer difference in scale makes it hard to say "Hey, this titan kind of looks like X," because each individual body part is magnified to such a great degree. TLDR; Titans are big, and seem bigger in-universe to us, so it makes sense we can identify them as characters, but in-universe characters can't.

21:15 Normally I'm with you on these videos, but I have a big problem with the logic you had for this argument. The biggest problem with the reveal isn't that it came from nowhere, or that he should have died anyways because of what you said a little later in the video, but that it was a reveal of something that is both useless to the narrative past this one incident and creates a whole new mechanic unlike anything else titans or titan shifters have. Lets use the examples you mentioned (besides Colossal turning into thin air since it is similarly bad like this reveal). The Colossal Titan's nuke was revealed, and when Armin got the Colossal himself was then utilized later in the story on multiple occasions. Eren's hardening was him receiving already established titan mechanics, aka the Female Titan hardening but bigger, and for obvious reasons was important to the overarching narrative when he used it to seal and used it in combat. The Female Titan's first hardening is a better comparison since it has more parallels to Reiner's consciousness reveal, except is much better executed. Hardening ended up being one of the most critical elements of a titan shifter, so its reveal was just part of the plot naturally progressing. What would *not* be good would be the Female Titan hardening, and then hardening never being brought up again or used by any shifter past that one scene, which is essentially what we got with Reiner. There's also that Reiner's consciousness transferring ability is completely unlike anything else shifters have, with the only other manipulation of one's body possible being the suppressing of healing, so the logic behind it being possible is pretty finicky. TLDR: The problem with Reiner's consciousness ability isn't with Return to Shiganshina, but with later arcs for failing to elaborate on the ability and integrate it into the plot. This could have been done in so many ways, such as simply just using it again in the story, or having it be the basis for other kinds of body manipulation techniques that establish shifters are even able to do things like that.

Oh and I might as well mention that if I were given the ability to rewrite that scene, what I would do is have Reiner's large build, specifically his arms that he'd use to try and block the neck blow, get the blade stuck right before it's able to reach his neck's spinal chord and kill him, and then have his transformation start as he begins falling and finish right before hitting the ground. This would utilize an aspect of his character that never really gets used in the story, aka his incredibly bulky build that might be the largest out of all the characters we see through the series, and would explain how he could survive an attack from Levi. Him being a shifter is good enough reason for him to survive the shot to the heart. This would also not need to introduce an unnecessary plot mechanic that doesn't fit well with the rest of the stories' established mechanics, and since it never comes up again wouldn't affect the rest of the story past this. The only real criticism I have with that would be Levi not being able to pull off the kill, but given that the blades were made for ripping through significantly lighter and less dense flesh/tendons and never bone, and that Levi was only using one arm for each blade swung at Reiner, I think it would be not too much of a stretch for that to stop the blades.

I'm more forgiving of Annie due to her honesty. She clearly stated why she did what she did, and she even admitted she would do it all over again. When it comes to war, it is never pretty. Annie knew this, and could only fight for the people she cared about. Reiner and Bertholdt on the other hand just went for it, doing what everyone else did, always hiding behind someone or some kind of mentality. Reiner goes on wishing for death, which caused him to leave those he cared about defenseless, and he also acts like he would have done things differently had he had the chance to do it all over. He constantly needed Falco to run in calling out for help, while Annie jumped out of the crystal ready to ally with enemies, she was personally conflicted with, and rationally accepted her mistakes willing to fight in order to preserve the things both sides cared about. The only reason Annie didn't go with the allies to battle is because Mikasa didn't want to agree to terms, but even then Annie still showed up after. It took Reiner far too long to reach a suitable conclusion.

I'm about to fund a whole webpage for Koroto and my favorite creators, and pay them so we can get this series, and the other stuff from them they want to do done, without youtubes crap.. seriously thinking about putting a few major assets into liquidation to support my favorite creators in rather significant ways just because youtube is literally destroying my favorite creators, and i just want to see the things they are going to make next. Because frankly i don't even enjoy television anymore, I'd rather watch my favorite content creators do their thing instead - I enjoy it enough to put money to it - and lately I've been spending more of my free time looking into how to do it... If anyone has some good info or resources with good info I'm all for it.

6:00 its also just such an absurd idea from their perspective they were accustoemd to their worldview which we only see as a mystery premise its the same as peopel in horror movies doing realistically stupid things because they do not know they are in horror movies sure in a mystery show suspecting that titans might be humans makes sense in a horror movie never splitting up and always watching your back makes sense but if I told you I can amgically turn into a giraffe and also there's a demon behind you right now and you should run and then I told you I was joking that would be a terrible, out of nowhere, humorless joke but you would also bneleive me that I was joking because someone making a really bad joke is infinitely more plausible than either statement
